Blip
Blip is the co-founder and leader of the Crows, an independent traveller faction later absorbed into the Cursed faction. A veteran Rank A traveller and aerial fighter, he tries to strengthen his people without surrendering them to the larger powers that exploit smaller factions. His loyalty to his members—and especially to his sister Linda—drives both his decision to follow Quinn and the fatal intervention that ends his life. (Chapters 547–553, 568–575, 591–611, 669, and 699–701)
Biography
Building and testing the Crows
Blip and Linda found the Crows together, with Blip serving as the base leader and assessing recruits. He values practical potential, records performances, and reminds low-ranked entrants that an initial grade can be improved. His leadership is relaxed in ordinary conversation but demanding in combat: when testing Fex, he reads and cuts the otherwise nearly invisible strings with his daggers and ends the exchange once he has seen enough. (Chapters 547–553)
The pressure to keep the faction competitive produces harsher consequences. Blip favours skilled newcomers because he wants to strengthen the Crows, creating resentment among longer-serving members, while the Graylash-aligned system demands crystals under threat of abandonment. On an emperor-tier hunt, Blip leads a deliberately small team but still loses Mitchell and suffers severe wounds. He accepts that retreat saved the most people, then pushes on despite a damaged leg because Linda's team may need help. (Chapters 568–575 and 590)
Choosing the Cursed faction
After the Sunshields attack smaller factions, Linda and Dennis persuade Blip to break from the Graylashes and work with Quinn. Blip is wary of trusting another powerful protector, but judges that inaction will leave his people exposed anyway. During the Sunshield assault he and Dennis defeat enemy squads at the cost of every member of their own teams, then return injured to reinforce the centre rather than treat those deaths as permission to withdraw. (Chapters 591–608)
Quinn's defence convinces Blip that service is a debt rather than another coerced alliance. Most Crow members choose to follow him, so he disbands the old faction in the traveller system, transfers its infrastructure to the Cursed ship, and creates the Cursed faction's new registration. He then rejects further Graylash demands, though he privately worries about provoking retaliation. Quinn keeps Blip and Dennis involved in leadership because their years of running factions supply experience he lacks. (Chapters 610–611)
Protecting his sister at the cost of his life
Blip continues to counsel patience after new rivals arrive, urging recovery and intelligence gathering before another fight. When poison drives several Cursed members into violent states, he waits outside a secured room because the group's vampire secrets restrict his access. Hearing Linda scream overrides that caution: he forces the door code from Sam and charges in before his own transformation is complete. (Chapters 672, 694, and 699–700)
The half-transformed Fex knocks Blip's defence aside, latches onto his neck, and drains him while clawing away his attempts to resist. Linda begs for him to be turned, but no authorised vampire leader is present and Kazz refuses to violate vampire law; Blip dies holding his sister's hand. His death leaves Linda devastated and Fex traumatised, particularly because Fex remembers killing a man who had treated him kindly. (Chapters 700–703, 745, and 1312)
Appearance and personality
Blip wears a large overcoat over black-and-purple beast armour engraved with spirals, feathers, and fierce eyes on the chest. His matching equipment with Linda initially makes them look like a pair before their sibling relationship is explained. He is usually casual, patient, and approachable, but becomes focused and unsmiling in combat. He cares deeply about all Crow members and cannot celebrate an emperor-tier crystal after a subordinate dies; his composure breaks most sharply when Linda is endangered. (Chapters 551–553, 568–575, 590–592, and 699–701)
Powers and abilities
Transformation and aerial combat
Blip has a transformation ability that can be only partly activated under sudden pressure. Its full mechanics and transformed appearance are not described in one complete explanation, but his on-page state includes wings, and Quinn identifies Blip and Dennis as valuable aerial fighters whose abilities would be lost if they became vampires. Blip uses flight to move rapidly across the Sunshield battlefield; after the emperor-tier fire fight, his wings are badly scorched, establishing that they can be damaged and that sustained high-tier combat exhausts him. (Chapters 575, 607, 669, and 700)
Daggers, beast gear, and close combat
Blip fights with paired king-tier daggers and a mixed high-tier armour set consisting of an emperor-tier chest piece and boots with king-tier shoulder protection. He can perceive or infer Fex's fine strings well enough to cut them, showing sharp combat awareness and precise dagger work. His gear and transformation let him survive emperor-tier hunts and fight multiple Sunshield squad leaders, but they do not remove ordinary limits: fire damages him through attrition, injuries and exhaustion accumulate, and a faster half-transformed Fex overwhelms him before his own change is complete. (Chapters 551, 575, 583, 607, and 700–701)
Faction leadership
Blip understands recruit assessment, traveller ranking, quest systems, crystal supply, and shelter defence. He converts the Crows' records and infrastructure into the Cursed faction and provides intelligence from former allies. His strategic judgment generally favours reconnaissance and preservation, although pressure from larger factions once pushes the Crows into a poorly assessed hunt and danger to Linda can override his caution entirely. (Chapters 548–559, 568–575, 603, 611, 615–619, and 672)
Relationships
- Linda: Linda is Blip's sister and co-founder. They share leadership, comparable gear, and aerial combat roles; his need to protect her persists through severe wounds and ultimately leads him into Fex's attack. (Chapters 552, 575, 591–603, and 699–701)
- Quinn: Blip initially views Quinn as a risky young ally, then concludes that Quinn saved the Crows and pledges the faction to him. Quinn values Blip's administrative experience and later regrets being absent when Blip could have been turned and saved. (Chapters 591–611 and 701–703)
- Dennis: Dennis is Blip's fellow veteran leader. He helps persuade Blip to join Quinn, fights parallel battles during the Sunshield attack, and remains one of the experienced figures folded into Cursed leadership. (Chapters 591–611)
- Fex: Blip treats Fex kindly after he joins the faction. Poison and blood hunger drive Fex into the state that kills Blip, and Fex's complete memory of the act leaves him afraid of blood and burdened by guilt. (Chapters 551, 700–703)
