Huangfu Song

Huangfu Song is a chubby Formation Hall cultivator whose joking manner masks access to some of the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance's most sensitive operations. He first handles security at Huan Yu Courtyard, then becomes a recurring guide, overseer, and reluctant source of classified information for Li Fan during the deployment of the Tianxuan Soul-Locking Formation.

Biography

Huan Yu gatekeeper

Huangfu Song first appears after Ji Hongdao eliminates the trainees who cannot reliably identify the Five Elders Association's Soul Contracts. He receives the failed candidates in a separate courtyard, assures them that the Alliance is not going to kill them, and personally seals the classified portions of their formation memories with a slap. The genial reassurance serves a strict institutional purpose: he protects the Tianxuan Soul-Locking Formation's secrecy while making expulsion appear orderly rather than punitive. (Chapter 297)

Li Fan's composure makes him pause long enough to give his name and predict that they will meet again. That prediction is soon fulfilled when deaths among the stronger trainees force the Formation Hall to recall some of those previously dismissed. Huangfu treats the reunion as proof of his intuition, but his expression hardens when Li Fan probes the death of Tantai Tao and the possibility that insiders arranged it. Their exchange establishes the pattern of their later acquaintance: Huangfu jokes and offers practical help, while Li Fan uses apparently casual remarks to test how much danger and concealed responsibility sit behind the official's friendly surface. Roaring Abyss and Soul-Locking deployment

When Ji Hongdao's team is redirected to the Roaring Abyss, Huangfu escorts Li Fan and Xue Mu aboard the Dust Crossing Boat and becomes their principal source of operational context. He explains how the Primordial White Mist consumes lifespan, how maze realms distort space, and why sound-absorbing treasures are needed against the abyss's demonic voices. His warnings are not empty posturing: fear briefly shows through his calm when the sound surges reach the boat, and he stresses that junior cultivators depend on institutional protection such as the Pure World Red Lotus Formation and Ink Death tokens. Even so, he prefers the appearance of ease, trading barbs with the younger formation masters and letting others repeat explanations when doing so saves him effort. (Chapters 349–357)

Huangfu later delivers and oversees central-array components for the expanding Tianxuan Soul-Locking network. At an Anchor Point, he uses a damaged jade token and hand seals to connect a copper mirror to the formation, stores it in a crimson wooden box, and takes responsibility for guarding the hub until installation is complete. His authority is operational rather than absolute: he moves between construction sites, depends on Alliance vessels and protected cores, and defers immediately when Ji Hongdao or Chief Lu Xichan intervenes. The work nevertheless makes him one of the people through whom Li Fan can observe how the supposedly uniform grand formation is transported, activated, inspected, and politically controlled. Li Fan exploits that access by mixing flattery, implied knowledge of Tantai Tao's death, and his public reputation for self-sacrifice. Huangfu recognizes that Li Fan's saintly image conceals a ruthless gamble for rank and opportunity, and the frankness makes him more willing to cooperate, though never fully comfortable. He supplies a confidential list of high-value construction sites, commands a detour through the Green River Deep Gorge, and helps Li Fan gain notice during Lu Xichan's inspection. When Lu asks how to reward the celebrated formation builder, Huangfu recommends a secret-realm assignment and names the Five Elements Great Heavenly Realm, accepting that he may become her scapegoat if the factional maneuver fails. The decision advances Li Fan's investigation while drawing Huangfu deeper into a struggle above his rank; afterward he admits that helping Li Fan also improved his own prospects. (Chapters 372–380)

Appearance and personality

Huangfu Song is a chubby, middle-aged cultivator with a conspicuous goatee and a large belly that his friend Dongfang Yao freely jokes about. His round build supports his comic presentation, but scenes in dangerous territory repeatedly contrast it with practiced composure: he can remain seated through the Dust Crossing Boat's acceleration, pilot through the White Mist, and turn solemn the moment a central array hub requires protection. He is genial, sarcastic, thick-skinned, and somewhat lazy when another official can carry the burden, yet he is not careless about consequences. He explains hazards in detail, checks formation work when a superior approaches, and knows when curiosity must yield to secrecy. Political caution is his defining limit and survival skill. Li Fan can pressure him because Huangfu fears exposure, but Huangfu will compromise only when killing or refusing would create greater danger for himself. His greed and desire for advancement are genuine, as are his competence and his willingness to honor a promise once he has made it. (Chapters 349–380)

Abilities and cultivation

Huangfu Song works within post-calamity cultivation, but the finalized evidence does not establish a dependable chronological sequence of personal realms. His story-relevant strength lies instead in classified memory control, formation knowledge, and authority to operate Alliance transport and Tianxuan array infrastructure.

Memory sealing

Huangfu acquires or is entrusted with memory-sealing methods through his security duties at Huan Yu Courtyard. A direct slap covers the target in light, removes them from his courtyard, and seals the parts of their memory connected to the Tianxuan Soul-Locking Formation. The technique works without resistance on the dismissed trainees, including Golden Core cultivators, but the corpus does not explain its power source, duration, whether the memories can be restored, or what level of cultivation could resist it. It is demonstrated as an administrative security measure rather than an offensive technique, and no later refinement or broader application is confirmed. (Chapter 297)

Formation Hall operations

Huangfu's Formation Hall career gives him practical command of protected transport, inspection, and central-hub deployment. He pilots the Dust Crossing Boat through perception-distorting White Mist, explains the spatial behavior of maze realms, and uses formal hand seals, an authorization token, a copper mirror, and a crimson containment box to establish a Tianxuan central-array connection. Once the link condenses into a red mark on his forehead, he remains responsible for the hub until its placement is complete. These scenes demonstrate trained formation operation and institutional authorization; they do not establish that he personally designed the Tianxuan Soul-Locking Formation. (Chapters 349–378)

His effectiveness depends heavily on Alliance infrastructure and hierarchy. The Dust Crossing Boat, Tianxuan core, protective arrays, and access permissions supply capabilities he cannot be assumed to reproduce alone, while Ji Hongdao and Lu Xichan outrank him technically and politically. Within those limits, he is an experienced overseer: he can reroute a mission, coordinate subordinate cultivators, inspect completed formation sections, and recognize when unusual cave-heaven behavior requires escalation. His latest state in the finalized brief remains that of a trusted operational cultivator whose expertise is logistical and formation-centered rather than a documented personal combat progression. Relationships

• Li Fan: Their relationship grows from a teasing gatekeeper-trainee exchange into wary cooperation. Huangfu admires Li Fan's ruthlessness, supplies him with restricted opportunities, and keeps his promises, but he also suspects Li Fan's motives and briefly considers violence when Tantai Tao's death is invoked too pointedly.
• Ji Hongdao: Ji is Huangfu's superior in the Formation Hall and can silence or redirect him immediately. Huangfu nevertheless serves as the approachable operational intermediary who explains Ji's missions and implements central-array work in the field.
• Lu Xichan: Huangfu is acutely aware that Chief Lu's cultivation and authority can crush his career. When she asks for advice about Li Fan, he provides the recommendation she needs while recognizing that he may carry the blame if her factional intervention goes badly.
• Dongfang Yao: Dongfang is a familiar colleague who greets Huangfu warmly and jokes about his belly. Their easy banter gives way to shared anxiety when Lu Xichan's inspection forces both men into high-level political maneuvering.
