Zhang Yi

Zhang Yi is a Specter whose fixation grants control over memories. Recruited after the ghost fetus's defeat, he becomes Chen Ge's specialist for interrogation, concealment, and recovery, then completes a permanent advance from Half Red Specter to Red Specter before the expedition to Xin Hai.

Biography

Recruitment and memory work

The black phone recognizes Zhang Yi as a newly recruited special Specter with exceptional potential, but curses left by the ghost fetus have weakened him. Red High Heels extracts those curses while Doctor Wei assists his recovery. Once installed at the House of Horrors, Zhang Yi helps residents recover the fact of their deaths, suppresses dangerous memories in captives, and reads Patient 101's mind for intelligence about the Cursed Hospital. His work is powerful but not effortless. Zhang Yi remains visibly weak after repeated uses, can only suppress some memories temporarily, and cannot reliably recover information that a stronger memory-controller has already obscured. These limits make him both a valuable investigator and an obvious target in the coming conflict, so Chen Ge begins seeking a way to strengthen him without damaging his unusual talent. Fang Yu and the Red Specter awakening

Before consuming two captured Half Red Specters, Zhang Yi calls Fang Yu, the living woman who continued waiting for him despite losing the memories they shared. Their conversation renews the bond that neither death nor deliberate forgetting fully erased. A drop of blood forms at Zhang Yi's heart and takes Fang Yu's name, after which he enters a deep sleep and awakens as a Red Specter with more humanity rather than less. (Chapters 1149, 1152)

The advancement expands his usefulness in Xin Hai. Zhang Yi creates false memories, removes knowledge that could expose Chen Ge, and seals even his own recollection of a hidden escape plan so the hospital cannot discover it by searching him. After the final battle, he continues editing the memories of rescued passengers and bystanders so they can safely return to ordinary life without exposing the House of Horrors. Appearance and personality

Before his advancement, Zhang Yi is slightly hunched and looks so weak that he seems close to death; after awakening as a Red Specter, his presence becomes markedly more frightening. He is restrained, cooperative, and careful about the limits of his gift. His voluntary call to Fang Yu and his increased humanity after advancing show that protecting their bond matters more to him than raw power alone. (Chapters 1029, 1135, 1149, 1152–1153)

Skills and supernatural abilities

Zhang Yi can inspect, hide, erase, suppress, and rewrite memories in both humans and ghosts. As a Red Specter he can construct a convincing false memory, but he still needs physical contact to act and cannot easily penetrate a much stronger target's mind. Tampered or self-erasing memories can also deny him useful information, and extensive work leaves him needing rest. (Chapters 989, 1029, 1126–1127, 1145, 1152–1157)

Chen Ge trusts Zhang Yi with secrets that must survive hostile mind-reading and repeatedly deploys him as the House of Horrors' memory specialist. Fang Yu is the emotional anchor of his retained identity: she remembers the feeling of his protection even when his name is gone, while he brands her name into his heart. Red High Heels removes the ghost fetus's curses from him and later works alongside him in processing captured supernatural threats. (Chapters 989–990, 1031–1033, 1149, 1152–1154, 1198)

Items

Zhang Yi has no individually named signature item. He often travels within Yan Danian's comic with the other employees, but the comic is shared transport rather than his personal possession.
