Biography
A name that survives forgetting
Fang Yu suffers recurring memory loss severe enough that she writes names across her home and belongings. One name persists with unusual emotional force: Fang Yu, which also belongs to the friend she once tried to save. In the recovered memory, the amnesiac Fang Yu pushes that other woman out of the Ghost Fetus's house and remains trapped herself, sacrificing her own escape so her friend can survive. Chen Ge's investigation must therefore separate two women who share the same name. The writing is not proof that the amnesiac woman remembers her own identity normally; it is the residue of loyalty to the friend she cannot fully recover in factual memory. Her persistence supplies a clue to the Ghost Fetus while showing that emotional attachment survives even when ordinary recollection repeatedly disappears. (Chapters 979–988)
