Fire-Suppressing Water

The Fire-Suppressing Water is a pool-born Ancient Power that remains an external substance rather than entering Cale Henituse's body. Stored in the Permeating Necklace, it becomes one of his most versatile defenses against magical fire and a decisive resource in two continental battlefields.

History

The whirlpool islands

Cale bottles the water from a hidden pool while investigating the whirlpools off Uvar territory. He recognizes it as a power capable of suppressing fire and later has Lark obtain a necklace able to absorb and carry it. (Chapters 12 and 16)

When the Jungle's Sector One burns with an unnatural flame, Cale releases roughly a third of the stored water. The blue water extinguishes the blaze and allows Queen Ritana's people to reclaim the land, establishing that the substance can counter fires that ordinary water cannot. (Chapter 17)

Fire, lava, and imperial battlefields

The water protects Cale from the heat around the Fire of Destruction and remains under Erhaven's scrutiny because it exists outside the system of Ancient Powers fused inside Cale's body. Cale uses it again at Myple Castle, turning it into rain that smothers the Empire's magical fire pillar. (Chapters 24, 27, and 32)

At Death Canyon, Cale releases the stored water on a far larger scale. It counters Dragon's Rage, forms a wall and weapons for the Whale Tribe, and lets Witira and the other whales fight in an environment saturated with their element. The expenditure leaves the supply dangerously low and destabilizes the balance of Cale's powers. (Chapters 51–53)

The last reserve

During the trial for the Sky-Devouring Water, Cale uses the remaining Fire-Suppressing Water to move and defend himself underwater. By the end of the encounter, only a few drops remain inside the necklace. (Chapter 54)

Abilities and properties

• It suppresses magical fire that resists ordinary water, including the Jungle blaze and Myple's alchemical flame. (Chapters 17 and 32)
• Cale can shape a sufficiently large release into walls, currents, and weapons, while the Whale Tribe can use the water to intensify their battle forms. (Chapter 51)
• Because it remains an external object, depletion affects the balance among Cale's other Ancient Powers rather than merely exhausting his stamina. (Chapters 49 and 53)
