Permeating Necklace

The Permeating Necklace is the blue-jewelled vessel that lets Cale carry the external Fire-Suppressing Water. It converts a hidden pool into a portable strategic resource while keeping the water physically separate from Cale's internal Ancient Powers.

History

Lark's retrieval

Lark brings the necklace to Cale in a magic bag after carrying out the task Cale assigned him. Cale soaks the Fire-Suppressing Water into it, transforming the necklace from a storage tool into the permanent container for the unusual water power. (Chapter 16)

The Jungle and Myple Castle

The jewel glows when Cale releases the water over the Jungle's Sector One, extinguishing the magical blaze. He continues to wear it beneath his clothes through the Hais Island campaign, and Erhaven later examines the necklace while determining how Cale's external and internal Ancient Powers interact. (Chapters 17, 24, 26, and 27)

Cale activates the necklace again at Myple Castle, spreading the stored water as rain over the imperial fire pillar. He later touches or checks it while investigating the Water of Judgment and while preparing for the northern war. (Chapters 31–32 and 38)

Death Canyon and the eastern lake

At Death Canyon, the necklace's blue jewel releases the water that counters Dragon's Rage and supports the berserk whales. The expenditure leaves the reservoir nearly empty. Cale still wears the necklace during the eastern lake trial, where its final reserve helps him survive long enough to obtain the Sky-Devouring Water. (Chapters 51 and 53–54)

Abilities and properties

• The necklace absorbs and stores a large volume of magical water in a compact wearable form. (Chapter 16)
• It releases that water at Cale's direction as concentrated streams, rain, or a broad battlefield-scale current. (Chapters 17, 32, and 51)
• It is a container rather than the source of the water's fire-suppressing and combat properties. (Chapters 27 and 49)
