Gashan

Gashan is the Tiger Tribe's elder shaman, a commander who translates the voices of nature and his crow familiars into protection for his displaced people.

Biography

Ancient powers and imperial schemes

Gashan is an elderly Tiger Tribe shaman who gathers the surviving members of his people after Arm hunts their scattered families across the Eastern Continent. Of roughly two hundred tigers, only about twenty escape. Nature tells Gashan that a red-haired man living a new life will destroy Arm's ships and give the tribe a new home, leading him to seek out Cale Henituse on the Hais Islands (Chapter 33).

Gashan brings three powerful warriors to the alliance with the Whale Tribe and helps survey Arm's fleet through a crow familiar. During the battle, he summons a typhoon, coordinates scattered units through flocks of messenger crows, and leads the Tiger Tribe in taking revenge on the organization that nearly exterminated them. Afterward, Cale offers the survivors a home in the Dark Forest, and Gashan accepts on the tribe's behalf (Chapter 33).

At Harris Village, Gashan senses disturbances through nature and learns that his mysterious source is the World Tree, whose voice he can hear. He commits the Tiger Tribe to Cale's plan for Death Canyon, despite being unsettled by the scale of the schemes developing around him (Chapter 37).

Northern war and Death Canyon

Gashan leads the tigers during the defense of Henituse territory. His incantations protect Choi Han, and his battlefield orders send the tribe against retreating enemies while he warns Cale of incoming attacks (Chapters 42–43).

At Death Canyon, Gashan uses the location's fierce natural winds rather than mana. He summons hundreds of crows as aerial footholds, screens enemy vision, opens paths through the flock for allied spells, and relays Cale's orders across the battlefield. His coordination allows the tigers and whales to maneuver in the air as if they were running across mountain ground (Chapter 51).

Gashan's crows blind the Half-blood Dragon at a critical moment, and his incantations later bind the defeated mage by suppressing mana, aura, and physical strength. He also creates a crow barrier to conceal Cale's handling of the captive from the wider battlefield (Chapter 52).

Aftermath and the Mogor crisis

Gashan remains a senior commander within the coalition after the main clash at Death Canyon. The Tiger Tribe's continued participation alongside Rowoon, Brek, and Faern reflects the stable home and alliances formed after their flight from the Eastern Continent (Chapter 55).

Appearance and personality

Gashan is an enormous old tiger, larger than even many renowned human warriors. He has a long beard, unusual tattoos across his face, entirely white eyes, white garments, and a small wooden staff (Chapter 33).

He is solemn, perceptive, and protective of his nearly extinct tribe, but he also has a wry sense of humor and a warrior's appetite for revenge. Messages from nature can make him highly dramatic, while Cale's plans often leave him anxious. In battle, however, he is composed, quick to understand an order, and decisive in command.

Abilities and powers

Shamanic wind and incantations

Gashan channels forces already present in nature rather than casting conventional mana spells. He can gather and redirect wind into a typhoon or exploit Death Canyon's existing currents, making terrain part of the technique. Protective incantations reinforce an ally, while suppressive rites can bind a defeated target's mana, aura, and physical strength. (Chapters 33, 42–43, 51–52)

Environment and ritual focus matter. Strong canyon wind gives him more to shape, and a binding is most reliable after allies have created the chance to impose it. Shamanism does not let him ignore every stronger opponent through a spoken phrase.

Crow familiars and aerial infrastructure

Gashan commands hundreds of crows as distributed eyes, messengers, screens, and platforms. He can see through a scout, carry his voice across separated units, obscure enemy vision, and arrange bodies densely enough for allies to step through the air. Opening lanes in the flock lets allied spells pass without sacrificing the screen. (Chapters 33, 51–52)

The crows can also form a privacy barrier around a sensitive action. They remain living familiars vulnerable to attack or dispersion, so their power comes from number, positioning, and constant coordination rather than individual durability.

Nature messages and tribal command

Gashan hears guidance from nature that is later connected to the World Tree. Symbolic messages lead the displaced tigers to Cale and help him sense disturbances, but they arrive as direction to interpret rather than complete tactical reports. (Chapters 33, 37)

He converts that guidance into practical command: scouts first, communicates what they find, assigns tiger warriors, and adapts orders to Cale's plan. His latest authority rests on protecting the surviving tribe and the Harris home they accepted, not only completing revenge. (Chapters 33, 42–43, 51–55)

• Cale Henituse: Gashan follows nature's guidance to Cale, accepts a home for his tribe, and becomes one of his battlefield commanders.
• Choi Han: Gashan protects the swordsman with incantations and coordinates his movements through crow messengers.

Gashan has no signature named item in the covered chapters. His wooden staff supports his incantations, but his abilities derive from his relationship with nature, the World Tree, and his crow familiars rather than a named artifact.
