Cattleya is the captain of the Future, the Tarot Club’s Hermit, and the adopted daughter and student of Bernadette Gustav. She begins as the Admiral of Stars, a Sequence 5 Constellations Master caught between the Moses Ascetic Order, the Hidden Sage, and her continuing loyalty to Queen Mystic. Her development turns that divided position into a deliberate vocation: she becomes the Queen of Stars, helps destroy the Hidden Sage, advances to Sequence 2 Sage, and accepts responsibility for her crew and the wider world without giving up either Bernadette or the Tarot Club.

Biography

Admiral of Stars

Cattleya is first discussed as a pirate admiral who supposedly became estranged from Queen Mystic after joining the Moses Ascetic Order. The rumor contains enough truth to protect the deception—she did leave the Dawn, command the Future, form a fleet, and join the Order—but the claimed break with Bernadette is false. She wants to grow strong, establish an independent force, and prove herself worthy of the Queen’s recognition. At sea, that means more than carrying a title: she maintains discipline, judges supernatural danger, protects a crew that includes volatile figures such as Frank Lee and Heath Doyle, and has enough strength and reputation to operate among the pirate admirals. (Chapters 292, 564–566, and 634–644)

Her route to the Tarot Club begins as a crisis rather than a calculated alliance. The Hidden Sage forcibly floods her with knowledge, making her flesh split into eyes while she fights against loss of control. Klein Moretti, acting as The Fool, draws her Spirit Body above the gray fog and cuts off the ravings. Cattleya explains that this is an endemic danger for the Moses Ascetic Order: knowledge “pursues” its members, who must accept modification, resist, or lose control when the volume exceeds what they can master. She agrees to become The Hermit and is permitted to pray to The Fool if the infusion recurs, giving her protection that the Order itself cannot provide. (Chapters 564–565)

As a captain, Cattleya combines occult preparation with caution rather than treating superior knowledge as a license for recklessness. She guides the Future through the dangerous waters around the battlefield of the gods, imprisons composite corpse monsters with starlight, coordinates her officers, and recognizes when retreat or concealment is preferable to a direct contest. Her willingness to transport Gehrman Sparrow toward the mermaids creates a working relationship that repeatedly benefits both sides: Klein gains passage, information, and access to experienced allies, while Cattleya obtains protection, knowledge, and an organization through which she can advance without submitting herself completely to the Hidden Sage. Queen Mystic and the Tarot Club

Cattleya enters the Tarot Club as its most experienced ordinary member, but her divided loyalty immediately produces a boundary she has to learn. She covertly passes hints about the gathering to Bernadette and attempts to convey the Queen’s questions. The Fool publicly names Bernadette, identifies her as Roselle’s daughter and leader of Element Dawn, and exposes the supposed estrangement as a cover. Cattleya accepts responsibility rather than defending herself, but then tries to pry through the gray fog and suffers a violent backlash. The episode makes the limit explicit: she may remain Bernadette’s daughter and intermediary, but the Tarot Club’s secrets are not hers to disclose. (Chapter 678)

That correction does not sever either relationship. Bernadette continues to exchange Roselle’s diary pages and questions through Cattleya, while the Tarot Club becomes a source of knowledge, materials, and trusted cooperation that Cattleya could not obtain from the suspicious inner ranks of the Moses Ascetic Order. She contributes pathway lore, faction history, analysis, and practical plans; in return, the Club helps secure the blood of a Snake of Fate for her Sequence 4 ritual. Cattleya dissects that blood and becomes a Mysticologist, gaining godhood while also gaining the ability to perceive far more dangerous secrets. The same achievement illustrates the pathway’s cost: her old glasses can no longer fully suppress what she sees, and survival requires consciously curbing curiosity. The Snake of Fate blood also supports her later progress toward Clairvoyant, but it does not remove the ordinary bottlenecks of advancement. She digests the Mysticologist potion with help from the Tarot Club’s rare knowledge, then discovers that the Moses Ascetic Order will not readily provide a Sequence 3 characteristic to a Dawn-affiliated Pillar whom it does not trust. The World suggests asking Bernadette; by the time The Fool prepares to sleep, Cattleya has become a Clairvoyant. Her advancement increases her ability to receive visions, yet the exact route by which she obtained the characteristic is not shown in the supplied corpus and should not be treated as certain. Hermit at the Edge of the Apocalypse

Before entering slumber, The Fool asks Cattleya to investigate why the Hidden Sage came alive and what state “He” is in. The commission may help awaken him or resist the apocalypse, but he cannot promise that it will. Accepting means going from the Moses Ascetic Order’s tolerated periphery into its core, risking exposure as Bernadette’s agent and direct corruption by the Hidden Sage. Cattleya briefly longs to abandon the burden and return to the Dawn, then recognizes that she can no longer become the carefree girl Bernadette once protected. She has her own crew, her own faction, and a world she wants to help save. Her decision—“Then face it”—is followed by the Future and its fleet vanishing into fairytale bubbles, and observers recognize a new king-level pirate: the Queen of Stars. (Chapters 1323, 1389, 1391, and 1395)

Years later, Cattleya helps turn that long commission into an assault on the Hidden Sage. She recruits Lumian Lee and his companions, supplies access to Avalon, and enters the headquarters despite a prophecy identifying her as a betrayer. When the angel Retia confronts her, Cattleya uses the Ugly Duckling re-enactment to maintain an incomplete Mythical Creature form against a Sage, but its duration is only about ten seconds and it can be used only twice in that operation. She withdraws when remaining would hinder Bernadette, then protects Lumian’s side of the plan and takes responsibility for captured warlocks who can still be reformed. The Hidden Sage and “His” backup information are destroyed, ending the involuntary indoctrination that had haunted Cattleya and other Mystery Pryers. (Chapters 2494–2504)

The Fool awards Cattleya the Sage characteristic left by Torriope as the continuation of her mission. She later completes the advancement ritual during the early disasters surrounding the protected zones, although she takes no pleasure in a catastrophe providing the necessary opportunity. As a Sage, she helps locate the Primordial Demoness, leaves the protected zone in information form to fight during the apocalypse, and understands her changing purpose: first she wanted Bernadette’s recognition, then a better future for her fleet, and finally the survival of the world itself. She remains active afterward, traveling to Planet Lorbath with other angels and attending the Tarot Club’s Divine Council; the former intermediary has become a power and guardian in her own right. Appearance and personality

Cattleya is a woman with long black hair, delicate features, fair skin, and deep-purple eyes that can become dark, silver-flecked, or unfocused when her powers are active. She favors black or dark classical warlock robes and is closely associated with a heavy pair of glasses. At pirate gatherings she may carry a celestial globe and a short scepter, giving her the appearance of an astronomer or occult scholar as well as a sea captain. (Chapters 564–566, 592–594, and 2558)

She is knowledgeable, analytical, restrained, and highly observant. On first entering the Tarot Club, she studies clothing, behavior, language, and pathway clues to estimate the identities and backgrounds of the other members. This habit is useful in negotiation and command, but her early attempt to infer The Fool’s intentions by prying at him shows its dangerous edge. The lesson she learns is not to stop seeking knowledge; it is to distinguish disciplined inquiry from an intrusion whose target or consequence she cannot withstand. (Chapters 566, 568–569, and 678)

Cattleya’s apparent composure conceals strong attachments and an old wish for Bernadette’s approval. She sometimes responds to the Queen less like an independent pirate admiral than the girl Bernadette raised, yet her growth is precisely the acceptance that love does not require retreating into dependence. She protects her crew from Frank’s unethical experiments, carries responsibility for the vulnerable members of her pathway, and accepts missions whose rewards remain uncertain when they might help the world survive. Her later peace on seeing Bernadette’s information stream beside her own reflects companionship between two Sages rather than a child simply sheltering behind the Queen. Pathways and abilities

Cattleya follows the Mystery Pryer pathway from at least Sequence 5 Constellations Master to Sequence 2 Sage. Its powers make knowledge, symbols, stars, secrets, and information operational, but the pathway’s defining risk is equally direct: seeing or receiving what cannot be understood may injure the senses, corrupt the spirit, or erase the self.

Eyes of Mystery Prying and occult foundations

The Eyes of Mystery Prying let Cattleya perceive Spirit Bodies, hidden supernatural structures, entities ordinary sight misses, and conditions beyond normal physical obstacles. By Sequence 5, she can observe through nearby walls and form remote illusory eyes for reconnaissance. Her glasses reduce the constant intrusion of extraordinary perception and help conceal its signs, but they are a restraint rather than perfect protection; after becoming a Mysticologist, she must also suppress the ability consciously. The power is dangerous because observation creates exposure. Looking at The Fool’s concealed state connects Cattleya to corruption and makes her eyes bleed, while viewing secrets of the cosmos after her demigod advancement almost draws her attention toward things she should not examine. At Sequence 2, divining the Primordial Demoness through Cheek’s face again makes blood flow from her eyes. Stronger perception therefore expands both her evidence and the class of beings capable of noticing, misleading, or damaging the observer. (Chapters 678, 1013, and 2558)

Constellations Master and practical spellcraft

As a Constellations Master, Cattleya uses astronomy, astrology, ritual knowledge, and starlight-based magic. She can read celestial and mystical signs, create or guide paths through starlight, imprison a target inside a transparent amber-like cage, and protect or move the Future with a luminous sea of stars. Her celestial globe and short scepter function as tools and symbols of this practice. These techniques make her particularly effective at navigation, prepared containment, and battlefield control rather than only direct damage. (Chapters 564, 592–594, 657, and 2496)

Her broad occult learning also lets her recognize pathways, rituals, organizations, and interactions that specialists from other traditions miss. In the Tarot Club she identifies neighboring pathways, proposes descent rituals, and reconstructs likely motives from sparse clues. Knowledge is not omniscience, however: she repeatedly distinguishes what she knows from what she merely suspects, and even as a Clairvoyant or Sage she compares separate prophecies instead of treating one image as complete truth. Mysticologist and Mystical Re-enactment

Cattleya becomes a Sequence 4 Mysticologist by analyzing the blood of a Snake of Fate and using it in her advancement ritual. Mysticologists turn genuine mystical knowledge into Mystical Re-enactment spells. The usefulness of a re-enactment depends on the accuracy, mystical significance, secrecy, and the user’s understanding of the underlying account; spreading or misunderstanding the knowledge can weaken the result. Cattleya’s choice of Fate-pathway blood additionally gives her advancement a correspondence with clairvoyance, but it does not make Monster and Mystery Pryer neighboring pathways. Her characteristic applications take the form of fairytale magic learned through Bernadette’s tradition. She can make ships and their crews dissolve into illusory bubbles to conceal or transport them, and Ugly Duckling temporarily lets a Sequence 3 body manifest an incomplete Mythical Creature form capable of withstanding an angel’s pressure. The latter is a bridge, not true angelhood: against Retia it lasts only about ten seconds, does not overcome a Sage’s information body, and Cattleya has only one further use after the first casting. Clairvoyant

At Sequence 3 Clairvoyant, Cattleya receives dreams, intuitions, and symbolic scenes connected to possible futures. She senses the approach of the apocalypse before she can interpret it, recognizes The Fool’s entry into slumber, foresees visitors to the Future, and later locates a prospective battle with Cheek in the Southern Continent’s primeval rainforest. The ability is useful for warning, preparation, and finding correspondences rather than for producing a complete schedule of events. (Chapters 1279, 1391, and 2558)

Prophecy remains conditional and observer-dependent. Cattleya’s vision of the rainforest differs from Bernadette’s images of the abyssal mirror world and crimson moon; the two Sages combine them into a tentative interpretation while explicitly leaving the moon’s meaning unresolved. Higher-level targets can also injure the diviner or make the revelation incomplete. Cattleya therefore treats separate visions as pieces of an unknown whole, a discipline that survives her advancement beyond Clairvoyant. (Chapters 2558–2559)

Sage and information authority

As a Sequence 2 Sage, Cattleya can exist as a torrent of complex information and perceive the world’s informational structure. The pathway’s core is mastery and utilization of information: a Sage with sufficient self-knowledge can add fully understood, compatible mystical information to their own flow, remove unnecessary elements, reshape the body, and fix or accelerate spells. The restrictions are structural rather than cosmetic—poorly understood additions, conflicting information, or a disrupted balance can destabilize the whole self. (Chapters 2499–2500 and 2595)

Cattleya retains and strengthens all earlier prophecy, Mystical Re-enactment, concealment, and knowledge-based techniques. Her acting as a Sage is tied to preventing disaster, protecting people, and maintaining order, a principle Bernadette teaches after both have reached the same Sequence. This latest state lets Cattleya travel beyond protected zones as information and join angelic operations, but her bleeding eyes during high-level divination demonstrate that Sequence 2 does not remove the danger of knowledge or make superior beings safe to inspect. • Bernadette Gustav: Cattleya’s adoptive mother, teacher, Queen, and enduring emotional center. Their public estrangement conceals continued loyalty; Cattleya eventually grows from seeking Bernadette’s recognition into standing beside her as a fellow Sage.
• Klein Moretti: The Fool saves Cattleya from the Hidden Sage, gives her a place in the Tarot Club, corrects her breach of its boundaries, and entrusts her with the investigation that ends in the Hidden Sage’s death and her Sage characteristic.
• Lumian Lee: Cattleya recruits him into the operation against the Hidden Sage and later uses her divination to support his hunt for the Primordial Demoness. Their cooperation joins the Tarot Club’s older commissions to its later apocalyptic campaign.

• Heavy suppressive glasses: Cattleya's unnamed heavy glasses suppress and disguise the Eyes of Mystery Prying at lower Sequences. They remain part of her habitual appearance even after her Mysticologist advancement makes their suppression incomplete. They are not the later item named Mystery Prying Glasses.
