Li Hwa

Li Hwa is an elderly Taiwanese telekinetic and former world-ranked superhuman of the Grand Natural Society. She returns from retirement to confront Ysayle Khalifa, the demon responsible for her husband's death, and later becomes a trusted confidante to Bom. (Chapters 73–83, 145–150, 212–243, 325, 428)

Biography

Revenge at Melissia Masquerade

Li Hwa joins the effort against the demons at Melissia Masquerade because the operation gives her another chance to reach Ysayle Khalifa, who killed her husband and burned Li Hwa decades earlier. Assigned alongside Bom, she discloses the private grief behind her return and then intercepts Ysayle. Li Hwa's refined telekinesis lets her contest the demon and a vast puppet army, but the strain leaves her bleeding and internally injured; Bom exhausts her own mana to keep her alive through the final explosion. (Chapters 73–83)

Bom's confidante

After the raid, Li Hwa and Bom repeatedly meet through the Grand Natural Society and the Myung household. Li Hwa listens without alarm when Bom reveals that she is a dragon, offers candid advice about jealousy and intimacy, and urges her to confront the real source of her anxieties rather than disguising them. Her memories of marriage, bereavement, and her own possessiveness give Bom an older confidante who can respond to painful emotions with both warmth and bluntness. Li Hwa eventually leaves after finding another trace of Ysayle. Rather than abandon the vengeance that shaped her life, she pursues the demon for a final confrontation and dies together with her. Bom later remembers the farewell as one of the losses among the human connections she formed during her Amusement. (Chapter 428)

Appearance and personality

Li Hwa is a small elderly woman with white hair, deep wrinkles, a bent back, and severe burn scars left from Ysayle's attack. Most of her physical ability is gone, and she carries a walking stick despite using telekinesis to move her body. Her creaking, low voice can quiet a room, while her laughter and wrinkled smile often soften her otherwise formidable presence. (Chapters 73, 79, 83, 93, 224, 243)

She is guarded around unexplained threats and rarely discusses her past, but she becomes affectionate and candid with Bom. Li Hwa combines patient listening with unsentimental advice, and her humour about age and marriage coexists with a deeply rooted capacity for vengeance. She does not let severe injuries or retirement erase her resolve once Ysayle is within reach. (Chapters 74, 77–83, 150, 224, 241–243, 325)

Powers and abilities

Telekinesis

Li Hwa awakened with Telekinesis (B-), an exceptionally rare starting level, and later received advanced instruction at America Cypher Academy. Her control assigns direction to mana, alters forces throughout nearby space, supports flight, and can influence mana molecules with a delicacy that Bom cannot reproduce directly. In combat she can collide with a flying enemy, pressure an area, and control the flow of a battle against numerous machines. (Chapters 73, 78–79)

Her technique also compensates for age: Li Hwa uses telekinesis to keep her heart beating and move a body that has lost most ordinary physical capacity. That dependence does not remove physical limits. Ultrasonic attacks disrupt her precision, prolonged control makes her bleed from the ears, and overstraining mana causes serious internal injuries that require healing. (Chapters 79, 83, 243)

Relationships

• Bom: Bom begins as Li Hwa's assigned partner and risks exhausting her dragon heart to save her. Their later friendship centres on private conversations in which Li Hwa listens to Bom's fears, accepts her draconic identity, and offers advice drawn from her own marriage and grief. (Chapters 75–83, 145–150, 212, 224, 240–243, 325)
• Ysayle Khalifa: Ysayle's troops kill Li Hwa's husband and set fire to the apartment where Li Hwa is hiding while pregnant. Li Hwa spends decades looking for her, battles her at Melissia Masquerade, and ultimately dies in their final confrontation. (Chapters 74, 77–83, 428)
• Myung Yongha: Myung brings his fellow Grand Natural Society member to Peace City, where his family and the Yu household give Li Hwa further opportunities to meet Bom. (Chapters 93, 145–150)
• Yu Jitae: Li Hwa initially scrutinizes his unidentified affiliation, then cooperates with his anti-demon plan and later joins the Society's effort to keep his role in the raid concealed. (Chapters 73–75, 83, 93)

Items

Walking stick

Li Hwa habitually carries a walking stick even though telekinesis, rather than the stick, is what keeps her failing body moving. The object accompanies the image of an ordinary bent-backed old woman while her actual control extends down to her heartbeat. (Chapter 243)

Leather notebook and photograph

Li Hwa keeps a weathered leather notebook containing a faded Polaroid of her late husband. She shows it to Bom while recounting their courtship and his death, making the photograph one of the few surviving objects through which she shares the private life behind her public reputation. (Chapter 77)
