Windswept Emperor
The Windswept Emperor is the sovereign who turns the Echelon trial into a mechanism for removing the Windswept Realm from the Mountain and Sea Realm. He offers cultivation insight as bait, binds those who accept it, and ultimately sacrifices his own body and realm to complete the rebellion.
Biography
Concealed rebellion
The Emperor initially appears as the eyeless ruler of the Third Nation while Mountain and Sea cultivators compete across the Nine Nations. His faction has spent countless years preparing to escape what it considers a false world. Zong Wuya and black-robed adherents serve the project, but Zong's independence shows that the movement is an alliance of belief rather than simple imperial obedience. (Chapters 1090 and 1126–1135)
Meng Hao's interference forces the plan into the open. The Emperor deploys an earthenware pot filled with Windswept blood, invokes the realm's living things and dead, and personally destroys both eyes to activate the Nine Blood Formation. He then defiles the National Aura Mountains and exposes the Windswept Realm's natural laws, Essences, and great Daos to every Echelon cultivator. The offer appears generous, but Meng Hao recognizes the danger and relies mostly on his own enlightenment. (Chapters 1136–1140)
Bait, chains, and self-sacrifice
The Emperor actively gives additional qi flow to anyone who asks. Competition does the rest: Dao-Heaven and others demand more so they will not fall behind. Because their enlightenment is bolstered by Windswept power, it creates a debt and a conduit the Emperor can later exploit. He remains protected by the realm's will while the formation matures, preventing Meng Hao's attacks from reaching him. (Chapters 1138–1144)
At the appointed moment he offers the realm's sole World Essence to powers beyond the Mountain and Sea barrier. His arms, legs, and chest explode as the ritual opens a path, and a crystal sphere anchors chains to the Echelon cultivators. The World Essence begins extracting the Daos it helped grant. Meng Hao is harder to drain because the Echelon Heart, not the Emperor's qi flow, supplied most of his comprehension; he breaks free and releases the others. (Chapters 1145–1147)
The failure to keep the Echelon captives does not end the rebellion. The Emperor destroys the remainder of his body and speaks from his soul, leading the Windswept Realm's people in collectively renouncing the Immortal World. Their shared oath forms the Traitorous Sutra of the Rebel Dao and lets the realm pass toward the barrier of the 33 Heavens. When Meng Hao leaves with the Sutra, the Emperor's soul smiles rather than trying to stop him, implying that the realm's departure—not possession of the text—was the essential objective. Appearance and personality
The Emperor becomes literally eyeless after driving his fingers into his eyes during the formation ritual. Even without them, his connection to the realm lets him perceive critical changes. As the plan advances he appears increasingly bloodied, dismembered, and fanatical.
He is patient, manipulative, and prepared to make himself part of the payment. His deception works because it amplifies desires already present in the Echelon competitors. Beneath the madness is strategic clarity: when one mechanism fails, he distinguishes it from the greater goal and completes the realm's defection anyway.
Abilities and cultivation
Windswept qi-flow bestowal
As Emperor he can direct the realm's qi flow to accelerate enlightenment of its laws and Essences. The power is real, not an illusion, but acceptance creates a dependency that later lets the World Essence reclaim what it supplied. Cultivators who comprehend independently are substantially harder to bind.
Nine Blood Formation
The formation uses stored Windswept blood, the National Aura Mountains, the realm's dead, and the Emperor's own eyes as ritual components. It distorts the world, establishes nine focal pagodas, and prepares the realm for ascent. Its scale depends on sovereign access to the entire realm rather than the Emperor's personal combat strength alone.
World-Essence chains
By sacrificing his body and offering the sole World Essence, the Emperor creates chains that seize Echelon bodies and souls and extract acquired Daos one by one. The mechanism is strongest against recipients of his qi-flow bait and can preserve or capture the souls of already fallen Echelon cultivators. Meng Hao proves the chains can be broken by power grounded outside that debt.
Rebel Dao oath
The final technique is collective. The Emperor's soul leads every nation in renouncing the Mountain and Sea Realm, turning shared blood, souls, obsession, and consent into the Traitorous Sutra. It opens or guarantees a place beyond the barrier even after Meng Hao takes the resulting scripture.
