Spirit Toad Village Chief
The Spirit Toad Village Chief is the senior cultivator of the Spirit Mountain Three Villages. He tries to let the valley's full-moon poison eliminate Meng Hao indirectly, then submits when the outsider emerges at Foundation Establishment.
Biography
An outsider in the poison valley
The chief approaches Meng Hao riding a winged purple toad and warns him away from the villages' spiritually rich valley. Direct conflict becomes unattractive after Meng Hao's poison destroys a Spirit Snake. The chief therefore permits him to remain while privately relying on the full-moon miasma to kill an outsider unfamiliar with local conditions. (Chapters 96–97)
That calculation fails because Meng Hao enters the ancient cave beneath the valley rather than succumbing aboveground. The chief and six other cultivators continue their own objective: a red rope emerging from the depths, believed to lead to treasure. They cut themselves with black blades, feed blood into the rope, and pull it outward in repeated stages until approximately fifteen hundred meters have emerged. (Chapters 98–102)
The rope retrieves Meng Hao
The ritual does not bring up the expected treasure. It drags Meng Hao out of the cave after his Foundation Establishment breakthrough. When he flies—a capability that immediately establishes the realm difference—the chief abandons hostility, bows, and addresses him as a senior. The same caution that inspired indirect murder now prevents a suicidal confrontation. (Chapter 103)
Meng Hao requests information rather than revenge. The chief supplies village maps, historical records, poison prescriptions, and provisions, then respectfully sees him away. His cooperation gives Meng Hao practical knowledge of the Southern Domain while preserving all three villages from retaliation. (Chapter 104)
Appearance and personality
The chief is a fierce old man with red-and-yellow clothing, interwoven colors, and totem-like markings across his face. His winged purple toad reinforces both his village identity and poison-specialist role.
He is suspicious, calculating, and highly sensitive to power differences. He prefers environmental danger to a fair fight, but once the balance becomes undeniable he changes course completely. That submission is self-serving, yet his later assistance is thorough rather than grudging.
Abilities and cultivation
Peak Qi Condensation
The chief stands at the peak of the ninth level of Qi Condensation, making him senior among the village cultivators but still categorically below Foundation Establishment. He cannot fly under his own cultivation, which is why Meng Hao's airborne movement ends the conflict immediately.
Poison cultivation
He understands the valley's lethal miasma, the timing of its full-moon intensification, and inherited poison prescriptions. His strength is preparation and environmental knowledge. Meng Hao's more unusual poison and higher cultivation show that local expertise does not guarantee dominance over every toxic method.
Spirit Toad partnership
The chief rides a winged purple Spirit Toad, using it for aerial mobility and as the emblematic beast of his village. The supplied encounter does not establish a named attack or prove that the toad can independently challenge Foundation Establishment cultivators.
Red-rope blood ritual
Seven cultivators use black blades to release blood, empower the mysterious red rope, and pull in coordination. The method can move something across a great subterranean distance, but the participants do not control what is attached at the other end. Its result is therefore powerful and dangerously uncertain.
