Second Paragon
The Second Paragon is one of the Vast Expanse School's senior experts. His brief arc centers on the school's expedition into Patriarch Vast Expanse's necropolis, where he endures a Transcendence Dais long enough to make a real advance but also learns how far his achievement remains below Meng Hao's.
Biography
The Transcendence Dais
The Second Paragon reaches one of the necropolis's stone altars with the Sect Leader's expedition. A Transcendence Dais does not hand its user a breakthrough; remaining upon it forces the cultivator through increasingly destructive enlightenment and bodily exhaustion. By the fifth day, the Second Paragon is listless and extremely withered, yet the aura of awakening around him keeps strengthening. He chooses to endure rather than leave when the physical cost becomes obvious. (Chapter 1442)
Shortly before completing five days, he coughs blood, steps down, and discovers that the ordeal has advanced his cultivation by half a step. He has not Transcended, but he has crossed from ordinary 9-Essences into its peak. The Sect Leader and the other experts congratulate him because that narrow advance places him among the strongest cultivators available to the Vast Expanse School. Excited by the result, he looks toward Meng Hao with the desire to fight and imagines that he too might claim a place among the school's five Potentates. (Chapter 1442)
A corrected measure of strength
The comparison changes as Meng Hao remains on his own dais. Meng Hao lasts sixteen days, produces an aura beyond ordinary Transcendence, and survives phenomena no other participant can approach. The Second Paragon's urge to challenge him disappears completely. His response is not cowardice so much as a revised judgment: the experience that raised him to peak 9-Essences also gives him enough perspective to recognize that Meng Hao's path lies outside the scale of his new rank. (Chapter 1443)
He escapes the necropolis with the surviving expedition. When the Sect Leader plans a return to the second land mass, he counts the Second Paragon among six peak 9-Essences cultivators whose combined force may open the passage. The Second Paragon is last directly shown watching Meng Hao attack Jin Yunshan after their return, astonished by how aggressively the Ninth Paragon acts even among allies. (Chapter 1447)
Appearance and personality
The corpus does not provide a distinctive portrait. During the trial his body becomes severely withered, and he coughs blood when the Dais has pushed him to his limit.
He is ambitious, proud, and unusually persistent. Nearly five days of bodily collapse do not make him abandon the chance to advance. His first reaction to new power is competitive, but he does not cling blindly to that confidence; once Meng Hao demonstrates a fundamentally greater achievement, the Second Paragon discards the imagined rivalry instead of pretending parity.
Abilities and cultivation
- Peak 9-Essences cultivation: The Transcendence Dais advances him by half a step to the summit of 9-Essences. This does not make him a Transcendor, but it qualifies him as one of the small number of experts capable of supporting another assault on the necropolis.
- Transcendence-Dais endurance: He remains in the altar's awakening state for almost five days while his body withers and begins to fail. Endurance determines how much enlightenment and advancement a participant can extract, so his duration directly produces his breakthrough.
- Combined passage-opening power: The Sect Leader expects him to join five other peak 9-Essences experts to force open the route to the necropolis's second land mass. This is a planned group application, not evidence that the Second Paragon can open it alone.
- Senior Paragon battle power: His exact divine abilities are not named in the supplied scenes. His rank establishes immense cultivation, but the text does not provide enough evidence to assign him a distinct Essence or signature attack.
Relationships
- Vast Expanse School Sect Leader: Expedition leader who congratulates his advancement and includes him in the planned six-expert formation for the return journey.
- Meng Hao: Initially a prospective rival. Meng Hao's sixteen-day performance corrects the Second Paragon's inflated confidence and ends his desire to challenge him.
- Jin Yunshan: Fellow senior expert whose confrontation with Meng Hao the Second Paragon witnesses after the expedition.
Items
- Transcendence Dais access: The Dais is a necropolis inheritance site rather than his personal possession. Its pressure and awakening aura enable his half-step advance, but he must leave it before achieving actual Transcendence.
