Patriarch Icemountain

Patriarch Icemountain, also called the Icemountain Giant, is the ancient guardian of the frozen half of the Ice-Fire Realm and one of the two beings charged with protecting the final shard of the Copper Mirror.

Biography

Guardian of the frozen realm

Patriarch Icemountain exists as a 300,000-meter ice mountain capable of becoming a colossal humanoid. His cold sustains one half of the Ice-Fire Realm in balance with Flamephoenix and the realm's land of fire. Both guardians know that the mirror shard beneath their world maintains that balance, so generations of treasure hunters have taught them to treat intruders as existential threats rather than guests. When Meng Hao enters, Icemountain attacks immediately. Meng Hao defeats and seals him, but the giant's shattered body reforms, proving that ordinary physical destruction is insufficient to kill him. Battle for the final mirror shard

Meng Hao returns with Flamephoenix, releases Icemountain's seal, and offers the guardians a wager: defeat him and he will leave; lose and they must reveal the shard. Icemountain agrees even after sensing that Meng Hao's mirror armor places him far above their combined strength. He tears ice from his own mountain-body to form an enormous greataxe, repeatedly reconstructs himself after being shattered, and joins Flamephoenix in their strongest coordinated attacks. His refusal is not simple bravado: removing the shard will cause the ice and lava to mix, extinguishing the conditions on which both tribes depend. (Chapters 1496–1497)

The guardians pursue Meng Hao through the necropolis for months, shrinking their bodies to fit the passages, but arrive just after he takes the shard. When Icemountain tries to continue fighting, Flamephoenix blocks him and forces him to face the practical impossibility of recovering it. He accepts Meng Hao's temporary sealing of ice and lava with visible resentment. The seal stabilizes the realm for ten thousand years, but Icemountain has no reason to trust the outsider's promise to return. (Chapter 1498)

A promise fulfilled

The completed mirror's summons later reaches Icemountain as the aura of a treasure once bound to his realm. Much later, the temporary protection begins failing: the mountains melt, the fires weaken, and the realm approaches collapse. A Transcendent Meng Hao returns without announcing himself and rewrites the realm's natural laws, permanently restoring its cold, fire, spiritual energy, and habitability. Icemountain awakens after Meng Hao has left. He first rejects Flamephoenix's suggestion that the outsider kept his promise, then hesitates and privately wonders whether Meng Hao truly returned. Appearance and personality

Icemountain's natural form is a frozen mountain 300,000 meters tall; when animated, it becomes a giant whose body cracks, explodes, and reforms as living ice. He is territorial, stubborn, and quicker to violence than Flamephoenix. That hostility is grounded in responsibility for an inhabited world, not indiscriminate cruelty. Even after decisive defeat he remains unyielding, but he can accept an unfavorable agreement once resistance would only endanger the realm. His final uncertainty about Meng Hao shows that experience can modify his judgment, even if pride prevents open gratitude.

Abilities and cultivation

Living mountain body

Icemountain's battle strength exceeds an ordinary peak 9-Essences cultivator, although it remains below Meng Hao's eight-Essences cultivation, Transcendent armor, and powerful fleshly body. His defining defense is reconstruction: Meng Hao can crack and explode the entire giant, yet the ice gathers and forms him again almost immediately. This makes bodily destruction a delaying measure rather than a kill, though sealing magic can immobilize him and superior force can still defeat him. (Chapters 1495–1497)

Dominion over ice

He draws material directly from his own body and surroundings, assembling fallen ice into a greataxe sized for his giant form. His cold can freeze the world around him and counters Flamephoenix's heat, restoring melted terrain almost as soon as it thaws. He can also merge his power with the Plains-Ice Flower as a realm-level trump card. These techniques depend on the ice half of the realm and the equilibrium maintained by the mirror shard; once that equilibrium fails, his homeland and power source deteriorate together. Shape and pursuit

Despite his enormous natural scale, Icemountain can reduce his body enough to move through the necropolis tunnels. The change preserves his ability to pursue but does not close the speed gap with Meng Hao, who follows the mirror shard's pull through every branching passage. His intelligence, speech, and divine-will communication with Flamephoenix confirm that he is a cultivated life form rather than an unconscious elemental manifestation. (Chapters 1497–1498)

Relationships

• Flamephoenix: Counterpart guardian whose fire balances his ice. They fight together, argue over whether to continue after losing the shard, and jointly survive because she chooses negotiation.
• Meng Hao: Intruder who seals and defeats him, removes the treasure sustaining the realm, and then honors his promise by returning as a Transcendor to repair the world permanently.
• Icemountain Tribe: The inhabitants of the frozen half of the realm depend on the climate he helps maintain, giving his defense of the shard consequences beyond personal ownership.

Items

• Copper Mirror: Icemountain and Flamephoenix guard its final shard because it separates the realm's liquid ice and lava. Meng Hao's removal of it begins the world's collapse; his temporary Hexing seal and later alteration of natural law replace that stabilizing function.
• Ice greataxe: A temporary weapon formed from chunks of Icemountain's own body. It is an extension of his elemental form rather than an independently cataloged artifact. (Chapter 1497)
