Ji Mingfeng

Ji Mingfeng is a leading Ji Clan Dao Child whose augury, sealing arts, and beast collection make him one of the most dangerous South Heaven entrants to the Primordial Demon Immortal Plane.

Biography

Trapping Fang Yu

Ji Mingfeng works with Ji Xiaoxiao to keep Fang Yu from reaching a host body in the Primordial Demon Immortal Plane. His augury pinpoints her location, and Eight Point Illumination seals her inside eight pillars of light. He initially watches Meng Hao with silent scorn, but Meng Hao's intervention changes the balance. Ji Mingfeng sends a white wolf against him; the blood mastiff devours it immediately, and Fang Yu escapes after one pillar breaks. Rather than prolong a fight against the mastiff's Spirit Severing aura, Mingfeng takes Ji Xiaoxiao and withdraws, leaving Meng Hao with the impression that he remains as dangerous as Patriarch Huyan. The retreat does not end their hostility. Meng Hao detects killing intent behind Mingfeng's final smile and decides to eliminate him before he can become a greater threat inside the ancient illusion. That decision becomes decisive because the expedition's next stage separates each entrant's soul from ordinary control of their outside-world body and possessions. (Chapters 562 and 569)

Killed during awakening

In the Second Plane, Mingfeng's soul fuses with the body of a First Peak Conclave disciple. Meng Hao identifies the handsome shadow with a crow on his shoulder while the fusion is still awakening. Knowing that a fully conscious Ji Clan Dao Child would create new dangers, Meng Hao attacks the host before Mingfeng can open his eyes. First Peak disciples try to interfere, but Ke Jiusi's companions join the assault. Mingfeng awakens only long enough to recognize Meng Hao before the host body is destroyed and Meng Hao crushes his exposed soul. Death in the illusion therefore becomes a true death rather than the loss of a temporary body. (Chapters 570–571)

His death forces the surviving Ji Clan members into concealment and compromise. Ji Xiaoxiao helps circulate the false explanation that Mingfeng selected the wrong awakening time and died naturally, while Meng Hao later uses knowledge of the corpse to bind her more tightly to him. The recovered remains reveal Mingfeng's real standing: he was the Ji Clan's Nascent Soul Dao Child, bore a Patriarch's brand, and had been accompanied since age three by a sentient three-eyed crow. Meng Hao takes his two bags of holding, including the black bag containing his demon-beast collection. (Chapters 572, 577–578, and 608–610)

Appearance and personality

Mingfeng's soul-image is a handsome man with a crow perched on his shoulder. He smiles frequently, but the smiles carry scorn or concealed killing intent rather than warmth. He is controlled enough to withdraw when the Spirit Severing mastiff overturns his plan, yet his trapping of Fang Yu and intent toward Meng Hao show an ambitious, predatory approach to the expedition.

Abilities and cultivation

Mingfeng is a Nascent Soul Dao Child and full Array Chosen of the Ji Clan. His abilities combine divination, sealing, and contracted beasts.

Augury and Eight Point Illumination

His augury can determine a target's position inside the Primordial Demon Immortal Plane, allowing Ji Xiaoxiao to intercept Fang Yu. Eight Point Illumination manifests eight pillars as a sealing formation and holds Fang Yu strongly enough that preventing her from obtaining a host appears feasible. Breaking one pillar destabilizes the confinement and lets her escape; the formation is therefore powerful but not immune to concentrated external force. (Chapter 562)

Demon-beast collection

Mingfeng commands a white wolf that attacks on a casual gesture. The creature is dangerous enough to be his immediate answer to Meng Hao, but it freezes before the Spirit Severing blood mastiff and is devoured, demonstrating a severe difference in rank. His recovered black bag contains a larger collection of demon beasts, and the sentient three-eyed crow has accompanied him since childhood. The corpus does not show the rest of that collection in combat. (Chapters 562 and 609–610)

Soul fusion and its vulnerability

Like most outside entrants, Mingfeng crosses into the Second Plane as a soul fused with an ancient host body. The fusion provides an identity inside the illusion, but awakening takes time. Meng Hao exploits that interval: physical strikes destabilize the not-yet-awake soul, and destruction of both host and soul kills Mingfeng permanently. His Patriarch's brand has faded by the time the corpse is recovered, so it offers no posthumous protection. (Chapters 570–572 and 609)
