Ji Hongdong
Ji Hongdong is a proud Core Formation youth of the Ji Clan who enters the ancient Immortal’s corpse seeking its inheritance. His certainty that the Ji bloodline and the will of Heaven make him untouchable leads him to challenge Meng Hao after Meng Hao forms a Core, with fatal consequences.
Biography
Pursuit of the Immortal opportunity
Ji Hongdong advances through the Black Sieve Sect’s ancient corpse under the Ji Clan banner. Before his name is disclosed, he uses Core Formation pressure against the disguised Fang Mu and competes with representatives such as Fang Yu for the opportunity hidden in Choumen Tai’s mental realm. When the participants realize that Meng Hao has acquired the crucial inheritance, Ji Hongdong follows rather than withdrawing from a target whose strength is changing rapidly. (Chapters 296–302)
Xu Qing’s body is then beset by discarnate souls. Ji Hongdong invokes the authority in his Ji bloodline to suppress them, demonstrating why his clan status inspires more than political fear. The intervention is not altruistic: it occurs while he is closing on Meng Hao and trying to control the outcome of the inheritance struggle. (Chapter 303)
Death beneath the will of Heaven
Meng Hao completes Core Formation, overturning the earlier difference in cultivation. Ji Hongdong responds by calling down the will of the Heavens through the Bell of the East. He relies on the Ji Clan’s association with Heaven to create both pressure and a deterrent, silently daring Meng Hao to bear the consequences of killing a Ji. Meng Hao accepts that consequence and kills him. (Chapters 304–305)
Ji Hongdong’s death does not immediately end his role. A final transmission identifies Fang Mu as Meng Hao, and residual will repeats the disclosure after his body is gone. This exposes the disguise to powerful enemies and gives his last act a consequence greater than the failed duel itself. Even in defeat, the clan identity he trusted becomes a weapon directed at Meng Hao’s future. (Chapters 306–307)
Appearance and personality
Ji Hongdong is described as a young Ji Clan cultivator with a cold and proud bearing. He treats weaker cultivators as people to pressure and assumes that his surname changes what opponents are permitted to do. This confidence is grounded in real bloodline power, but it becomes fatal arrogance when he mistakes institutional protection for an absolute prohibition against Meng Hao’s retaliation.
Abilities and cultivation
Core Formation pressure
Before Meng Hao forms a Core, Ji Hongdong can suppress him through the natural disparity between cultivation realms. This is direct cultivation-base pressure rather than a separately named technique. Once Meng Hao’s breakthrough changes that balance, the advantage disappears.
Ji bloodline authority
His blood carries the Ji Clan’s connection to the reigning Heaven of the Ninth Mountain and Sea. He can use that authority to suppress discarnate souls within Xu Qing, compelling spirit entities that would not respond to ordinary physical force. The scene does not show him destroying those souls outright.
Bell of the East
Ji Hongdong employs the Bell of the East to call down the will of the Heavens. The resulting manifestation amplifies the threat surrounding a Ji Clan cultivator and attempts to restrain an opponent through heavenly authority. Meng Hao can still act within it and kill him, proving that the technique is coercive rather than an inviolable shield.
Death transmission and residual will
At death, Ji Hongdong sends out Meng Hao’s concealed identity. A remnant of will continues repeating the message briefly after the killing. This is a final information-bearing imprint, not survival of his consciousness as an active cultivator.
