Hanxue Bao
Hanxue Bao is the sixth-generation Patriarch of the Frigid Snow Clan. Near death beneath Holy Snow City, he gives Meng Hao his First Severing tempest legacy, abandons Spirit Severing for ten years of life, and spends the remainder of the siege protecting his descendants’ escape.
Biography
Voice beneath Holy Snow City
Hanxue Bao initially intervenes without revealing himself. His command drives away the cultivators abducting Zhou Dekun, and he later explains how Meng Hao can place blood containing his will into an awakened Thorn Rampart. The instruction changes an uncontrollable growth that attacks friend and enemy into a defense Meng Hao can command. Hanxue Bao thereby tests and aids an outsider who has already protected the clan. (Chapters 365 and 369)
When Hanxue Zong uses the city’s secrets to open a Heavenly Pit, Hanxue Bao offers Meng Hao his Spirit Severing enlightenment. Meng Hao must open his mind and connect through the Thorn Rampart, accepting the risk of possession. Hanxue Bao instead brands his own First Severing into him: the tempest in which he severed familial love and replaced it with Dao. His lingering love for the clan—and mercy toward his traitorous son—had contradicted that severing and destroyed his path, so the legacy is both power and the record of a failed absolute. (Chapters 374–375)
The tempest brand tears apart Hanxue Zong’s blood manifestation and opens access to earlier Frigid Snow patriarchal brands. As multiple generations enter Meng Hao, Hanxue Bao urges him to remain conscious because each brand will assist at the future moment of Spirit Severing. The inheritance is dangerous enough to rip apart body and soul; his guidance helps Meng Hao survive all six generations rather than losing himself after the first. (Chapters 375–378)
Ten final years
Hanxue Bao emerges physically after Meng Hao awakens. He has dispersed his skills and surrendered the life force maintaining the Thorn Rampart, exchanging his Spirit Severing realm for ten years of ordinary life. He offers Meng Hao clan membership, marriage to Hanxue Shan, the current generation’s patriarchal office, and multiple blessings. When Meng Hao refuses, Hanxue Bao does not coerce him. He instead gives him his own mutated Frigid Snow Larva, a rare larva able to bond two masters, so that the earlier promise can still be fulfilled before the evacuation. (Chapters 379–380)
In the final assault, Hanxue Bao can wield only late Nascent Soul strength. He repeatedly raises Thorn Ramparts, identifies a hidden Constellation Tribe augur suppressing the defense, and launches a tempest against the attackers’ extermination star. The collision destroys the enemy technique but leaves him coughing blood. After Meng Hao’s Church of the Golden Light arrives, Hanxue Bao gives him a final Thorn Rampart seed, promises that the clan will remember his kindness, and is the last Frigid Snow cultivator to enter the teleportation spell. (Chapters 381–382)
Appearance and personality
In his First Severing memory, Hanxue Bao is a tall, robed middle-aged man standing within a world-spanning tempest. When he emerges in the present, he is wizened, simply clothed, and nearly corpse-like, though the sensation of a tempest still surrounds him. He is stern under attack, candid about cost, and protective without being possessive. His willingness to accept Meng Hao’s refusal distinguishes care for the clan from a desire to control its benefactor.
Abilities and cultivation
First Severing tempest
Hanxue Bao achieved Spirit Severing by cutting familial love and replacing it with the Dao, provoking a half-Celestial Tempest. When released through Meng Hao, the legacy becomes a vast storm that pushes back a collapsing city, forces beasts prone, injures enemy cultivators, and tears apart Hanxue Zong’s blood-form. Its power comes from a preserved Spirit Severing will, not Meng Hao’s own realm.
Legacy-brand transmission
Using Meng Hao’s connection to the Thorn Rampart, Hanxue Bao imprints his enlightenment into Meng Hao’s soul and opens the sequence of six generational brands. Each records a patriarch’s First Severing and is intended to erupt as guidance when the recipient reaches that threshold. Multiple brands impose severe pain and risk unconsciousness or death, so transmission is not a consequence-free gift.
Thorn Rampart knowledge
He knows that an awakened Thorn Rampart can exterminate targets below Spirit Severing, lasts one month after rooting, and accepts commands when blood containing will is placed into its trunk. After falling to late Nascent Soul, he can still catalyze seeds into defensive walls and reform broken growths, although a coordinated army and augury suppression can overwhelm them.
Cultivation dispersal
Hanxue Bao voluntarily gives up Spirit Severing and releases the Thorn Rampart’s sustaining life force to gain ten years. This leaves him at late Nascent Soul strength and prevents the death that should have followed the legacy transfer, but it is a terminal exchange rather than healing.
Augury perception
He detects the hidden Constellation Tribe cultivator whose augury weakens the Rampart, even before Meng Hao uses special vision to locate the figure. The scene establishes spiritual perception of the interference, not mastery of augury itself.
