Fang Xiufeng

Fang Xiufeng is Meng Hao and Fang Yu's father, a supreme cultivator stationed in the Great Tang. Bound by the need to keep his son's Karma separate from the family during the Seventh Year Tribulation, he nevertheless intervenes at decisive moments.

Biography

Southern Domain War and Dao Seeking

He and his wife sense Meng Hao's apparent death from the Great Tang. Years later he watches his son through the Tower of Tang, restraining direct intervention until a curse threatens Meng Hao's life. His laughter interrupts the fatal absorption, and his divine sense later destroys an Underworld Judge clone and secures Xu Qing's safe passage. The distance is a deliberate defense: direct parental Karma would strengthen the Seventh Year Tribulation they have spent Meng Hao's childhood trying to defeat. (Chapters 683–780)

When the Ji Clan attempts to exploit that Karma, Fang Xiufeng sends three swords through the Towers of Tang rather than abandoning his post or approaching Meng Hao in person. He accepts that his son may read the separation as indifference because breaking it too early could be fatal. The decision captures the governing conflict of his parenthood—protecting Meng Hao often requires him to withhold the comfort that would make the protection visible. (Chapters 782–792)

He finally appears once the immediate karmic danger permits it, dismisses the Dawn Immortal's attack, and teaches sword Dao by killing distant Dao Lords with successive forms. He forces an Immortal Ancient temple to surrender a medallion and then opens Meng Hao's buried childhood memories. Those memories reveal the family's search for a cure, Meng Hao's repeated Nirvanic Rebirths, and the reason Fang Xiufeng accepted years of separation. The reunion does not erase the sacrifice; it lets Meng Hao understand it. (Chapters 797–800)

The Wider Ninth Mountain and Sea

Fang Xiufeng prepares Meng Hao for true Immortality and gives him the Immortal Ancient Dao Medallion, but leaves the breakthrough and its understanding to his son. As South Heaven's guardian he enforces restrictions against outside experts and protects Pill Demon's tribulation, duties that repeatedly require him to remain on the planet while Meng Hao enters the wider Ninth Mountain and Sea. The family briefly reunites when Fang Yu returns, after which Fang Xiufeng again watches from South Heaven as Meng Hao enters the Fang Clan's succession conflict. He cannot solve the rebellion in his son's place without abandoning the guardianship and changing Meng Hao's struggle into his own. He instead witnesses Meng Hao survive the clan upheaval and complete Paragon Immortal Ascension, allowing the younger Fang to establish authority on his own merits. (Chapters 856–888 and 964–996)

Nine Seas and the Windswept Realm

When the Fang Clan arrives on Planet South Heaven, Fang Xiufeng accepts appointment as Clan Chief. The role is not merely ceremonial: after Meng Hao eventually leaves again, his father's authority must be strong enough to prevent the clan from returning to factional struggle. Meng Hao's awakened Allheaven Dao seed also resonates within him and activates the deeper Fang bloodline he carries. (Chapters 1114, 1150 and 1166)

Fang Xiufeng has delayed his own Dao step partly because remaining below it gave him more time and freedom to protect his children. With Meng Hao's curse resolved, his older ambition returns. He knows the South Heaven Death Formation can kill a true Dao Realm cultivator and that even the Great Tang cannot cancel its primary function, but refuses the safer choice of never attempting the breakthrough. Failure would leave him only a short life in which to guard his family; success would secure both his personal Dao and the clan's leadership. (Chapters 1181–1183)

He survives the Allheaven Tribulation and steps into the Dao, then receives formal recognition as Clan Chief on South Heaven. The breakthrough confirms his position, but does not free him from the planet's restrictions or from the guardianship that shaped his previous choices. (Chapters 1183–1196)

Meng Clan and the Mountain and Sea War

Fang Xiufeng remains both Meng Hao's father and a principal defender of the Mountain and Sea Realm. He renews the Fang Clan's one-hundred-thousand-year commitment to guard Planet South Heaven and declares that the clan will die with the planet rather than abandon the seal entrusted to it. Pride in Meng Hao therefore coexists with a duty that prevents him from following his son freely into the war. (Chapters 1286, 1319, 1338, 1344, 1348, 1352 and 1387)

When Meng Hao returns to the collapsing South Heaven, Fang Xiufeng is critically injured but still tries to take his son's place in battle. He refuses to let Meng Hao spend the future merely to keep an already wounded father alive, and prepares to self-detonate so he will not become a burden. His farewell is framed not only as a Clan Chief's duty but as a father's last attempt to create a path forward for his child. (Chapters 1389–1391)

Shui Dongliu's plan then reveals that Fang Xiufeng and Meng Li have not simply vanished. Their souls become the wings of the Mountain and Sea Butterfly, while nearly all of their soul power is consumed to propel the survivors away from the destroyed Realm. They later appear with solid form inside the Butterfly, but that survival depends on Shui Dongliu's prepared transformation and exacts the loss of most of their original soul power. Vast Expanse and Transcendence

Allheaven reproduces Fang Xiufeng as part of the false family surrounding Meng Hao, exploiting precisely the parental bond and unresolved loss that have directed so much of Meng Hao's path. The projection belongs to the manufactured world rather than to Fang Xiufeng himself. (Chapter 1509)

The real Fang Xiufeng remains within the Mountain and Sea Butterfly through two thousand years of suppression by the 33 Heavens. When Meng Hao's Transcendent aura finally approaches, he recognizes his son at once and celebrates not only his survival but the fulfillment of the promise to return. Fang Xiufeng and Meng Li then witness Meng Hao's vengeance and reconstruction, bringing the long pattern of protection at a distance to a reunion their son is now powerful enough to secure. Meng Hao returns to them in person and kowtows; Fang Xiufeng, mindful of how much his son and Xu Qing have endured, immediately pushes him toward his wife rather than keeping the reunion for himself. (Chapters 1543–1558)

Beyond Allheaven

Fang Xiufeng and Meng Li survive the first millennia of Allheaven's curse because their souls remain fused with the Mountain and Sea Butterfly. That protection extends life but does not defeat the curse. When Shui Dongliu's posthumous method finally restores the cycle, the Butterfly dissolves into the forms of Meng Hao's parents and they join the river of soul seeds entering reincarnation. Their endpoint is a renewed life within the restored cycle, not indefinite existence as the Butterfly's wings. (Chapters 1591 and 1611)

Appearance and personality

Fang Xiufeng is dignified, fiercely protective, and disciplined enough to endure separation for his son's survival. His restraint gives way to overwhelming decisiveness when Meng Hao faces threats he cannot bear.

His distance is therefore not indifference. He accepts being misunderstood because direct parental Karma would worsen Meng Hao's Seventh Year Tribulation, then reveals affection through interventions carefully limited to threats his son cannot survive alone.

Abilities and cultivation

Sword Dao

Fang Xiufeng sends successive sword forms across Planet South Heaven and kills distant Dao Lords while teaching Meng Hao through demonstration. Range and lethality depend on his planetary authority; the lesson still requires Meng Hao to comprehend the Dao rather than inherit it automatically. (Chapters 782–800)

Towers of Tang

The towers extend his divine sense and attacks across the Eastern Lands, letting him observe Meng Hao and dispatch three swords without leaving his assigned station. They are infrastructure-linked projections, not proof that his physical body is simultaneously present everywhere. (Chapters 683–736 and 738–792)

South Heaven guardianship

He can suppress outside experts, destroy an Underworld Judge clone, and overawe false Immortals and ancient institutions. The office is tied to the Fang Clan's one-hundred-thousand-year oath and South Heaven's defensive formation; it grants planetary authority but also binds him to the assigned world. The Death Formation does not exempt its guardian: after he enters the true Dao Realm, its core function can kill him if its conditions are triggered. (Chapters 780–888, 1181–1196 and 1387)

Karma and Nirvanic Rebirth

Fang Xiufeng understands why family contact worsens the Seventh Year Tribulation and helps search for a cure through Meng Hao's repeated rebirths. Knowledge permits preparation and restraint, not cancellation of the tribulation without cost. (Chapters 782–800)

Dao Realm progression

At the great circle of the Ancient Realm, Fang Xiufeng's sword cultivation already lets him fight above the level implied by that stage. The Allheaven Dao seed awakened in Meng Hao resonates with his Fang bloodline, but does not make the next step safe. He deliberately faces Allheaven Tribulation and the South Heaven Death Formation because successful Dao confirmation will make his clan leadership unshakable; failure would sharply shorten the time he can protect his family. The successful breakthrough consolidates leadership and guardianship without replacing the sword path established earlier. (Chapters 1150–1196)
