Fang Shoudao
Fang Shoudao is a supreme Fang Clan elder who oversees the clan during Meng Hao's return and Immortal Ascension. During the rebellion he protects loyal clan members and battles Ji Xiufang at the Dao Realm.
Biography
Earth Patriarch beneath Planet East Victory
Fang Shoudao is the senior power concealed beneath the Fang ancestral mansion. A one-Essence Dao Lord and the clan's Earth Patriarch, he remains in the deepest cavern while Meng Hao explores the ancestral land and begins his unprecedented Immortal Ascension. His record of thirty-nine steps into the Misty Heaven Vault establishes the scale of that place before Meng Hao passes far beyond it. Rather than reacting with wounded pride, Fang Shoudao studies the younger man's tribulation and lineage, recognizing both the danger and the possibility represented by a direct descendant of the clan's ancient line. (Chapters 955, 959–960, 967–969)
The rebellion and the Ji Clan attack
Fang Shoudao's apparent distance during the uprising is part of a larger counter-plan. He allows concealed enemies to expose themselves while the clan's rebellion begins, even though doing so carries the terrible cost of loyal deaths. When Ji Xiufang blocks his return from the starry sky, the two fight as equal one-Essence Dao Lords. Fang Shoudao forms a river of stars and trades thousands of attacks with her while the planetary sealing shield trembles. Ji Xiufang believes the clan has no other Dao Realm foundation; Fang Shoudao's restraint conceals the first-generation Patriarch and the loyal powers prepared to close the trap. (Chapters 991–1003)
The strategy ends with the traitors destroyed and the loyal dead restored through the first-generation Patriarch's reversal of life and death. Fang Shoudao is one of the few people unaffected while time is turned back, confirming that he understood the operation rather than surviving it by chance. His willingness to accept casualties before the reversal makes him a severe guardian: he protects the clan as an institution, even when that protection demands decisions ordinary members could not bear. (Chapter 1004)
Meng Hao and the clan's future
After the rebellion, Fang Shoudao formally identifies Meng Hao as the Fang Clan's sword and Crown Prince while Fang Wei is prepared to become its shield. He negotiates with the Three Great Daoist Societies over Meng Hao's discipleship and deals with Meng Hao's aggressive demands for compensation and rewards. Their exchanges are often comic, but the calculation beneath them is serious: Fang Shoudao wants the benefits of outside instruction without surrendering the clan's claim on its most important heir. (Chapters 1006–1017, 1024–1026)
At the Heavencloud Bazaar, he turns an insult to Meng Hao into a public declaration of clan solidarity. He seals the asteroid field, orders the bazaar suppressed, and deliberately forces Guru Heavencloud to attempt a Dao breakthrough so Meng Hao can observe what stepping into the Dao entails. The apparent flattery is strategic instruction and reassurance at once: Meng Hao's future is now inseparable from the clan's. (Chapters 1160–1163)
Fang Shoudao later leads Fang forces to Planet South Heaven, backs Fang Xiufeng as Clan Chief, and helps the family withstand the tribulations surrounding Fang Xiufeng's Dao breakthrough. When the Death Formation suppresses outside cultivation, he and the other elders expend their own bodies, souls, and minds to help Fang Xiufeng survive the final tribulation. His later breakthrough within the Fang Clan shows that his own path continues after this expenditure. (Chapters 1181–1196, 1245)
Appearance and personality
Fang Shoudao appears as an aged, authoritative patriarch whose presence can affect the sky and land, but his personality is more distinctive than his physical description. He is patient enough to let enemies reveal themselves, ruthless enough to carry out a plan built around that exposure, and politically flexible enough to flatter or bargain when doing so strengthens the Fang Clan.
His treatment of Meng Hao combines genuine affection, institutional need, and comic self-preservation. He tests the young cultivator, then openly favors him once Meng Hao's Allheaven importance becomes clear. Beneath the humor, Fang Shoudao consistently acts on a single principle: individual pride is expendable, while the clan's future is not.
Abilities and cultivation
One-Essence Dao Lord cultivation
Fang Shoudao is explicitly a one-Essence Dao Lord during his battle with Ji Xiufang. At this level, their exchanges shake the starry sky and strain the sealing shield around Planet East Victory. (Chapter 999)
River of stars
With a wave, he manifests a stellar river as an offensive Dao Realm expression. The technique supports thousands of rapid exchanges rather than functioning as a single projectile. (Chapter 999)
Spatial sealing and suppression
At Heavencloud Bazaar he locks down an entire asteroid field, including its teleportation portals, preventing outside interference while the Fang Clan takes control. This demonstrates large-scale authority over space and battlefield movement. (Chapter 1162)
Dao guidance
Fang Shoudao can interpret the laws and Essences visible during a cultivator's attempt to step into the Dao. He engineers Guru Heavencloud's breakthrough attempt specifically to give Meng Hao direct experience of the process and explains its dangers while it unfolds. (Chapter 1162)
Clan formations and sacrificial support
On Planet South Heaven he works with the clan's other high-level cultivators to resist tribulation under the Death Formation's suppression, ultimately committing soul, mind, and body to support Fang Xiufeng. (Chapters 1184–1185)
Strategic command
His most consequential ability is organizational. He coordinates hidden loyalists, permits the rebellion to expose every traitor, and deploys the clan only when the counterstroke can settle the crisis decisively. (Chapters 994–1004)
