Fang Yanxu

Fang Yanxu is the Dao Realm founder of the Medicine Immortal Sect and a secretly loyal Fang Clan protector. His apparent estrangement from the clan is itself part of its defensive strategy, allowing him to emerge as a hidden trump card during the rebellion.

Biography

The hidden protector

Fang Yanxu is publicly remembered as the founder of the Medicine Immortal Sect who abandoned the Fang Clan. In truth, that separation hides his continued allegiance and preserves a Dao Realm protector outside the rebels' calculations. He reveals himself when three Quasi-Dao experts attack the clan during its internal collapse. A wave of his hand and the power of his Essence force them back, turning an apparently hopeless defense into a contest the loyalists can survive. (Chapters 1000–1001)

The intervention is not effortless. Fang Daozi counters the plants and vegetation that answer Yanxu's Essence, causing them to wither and leaving Yanxu blackened by a curse and forced backward. His alarm when the first Patriarch appears is partly performance, but his recognition of the founder is genuine: he kneels with the surviving loyalists and is spared the time reversal that strips the rebels of stolen years. His hidden role succeeds because it preserves the clan until its oldest authority can return, not because Yanxu can defeat every enemy alone. (Chapters 1001–1004)

Rebuilding the Fang Clan

After the rebellion, Yanxu helps establish Meng Hao as Crown Prince and participates in the decisions that reconstruct clan leadership. His relationship to Meng Hao is not limited to ancestry or defense. As founder of the Medicine Immortal Sect, he recognizes Meng Hao's alchemical attainment and the moment when the younger cultivator approaches insight into the Dao of Alchemy. Yanxu warns that premature comprehension of a Great Dao can injure a cultivator who lacks the wisdom to sustain it. When Meng Hao's attainment is formally recognized, Yanxu bows to the office of Lord of the Dao of Alchemy rather than treating age alone as superior to demonstrated mastery. Yanxu later investigates the clan's Allheaven Dao seeds with Fang Shoudao and supports Fang Xiufeng's appointment as Clan Chief. He travels to Planet South Heaven to assist Xiufeng's Dao breakthrough, but the planet's restrictive laws require him to suppress his own Dao cultivation to the great circle of the Ancient Realm. He and Shoudao divide the Deva Tribulation with Meng Hao and help keep the breakthrough from destroying the family gathered below. (Chapters 1164–1168, 1181–1188)

South Heaven guard and final sacrifice

The South Heaven Death Formation makes continued Dao Realm activity lethal. Yanxu fights while holding himself at the Ancient Realm's limit, then withdraws when leaking Dao aura would trigger the formation against him. The limitation does not end his responsibility: he helps uphold the Allheaven Clan's oath and becomes one of the senior powers guarding Planet South Heaven and the Fang line's future. During the Mountain and Sea War, concealment and restraint are no longer enough. Yanxu fights until he is drenched in blood and the clan's position collapses around him. With the Grand Elder already fallen, he releases a piercing cry and self-detonates. The act converts his remaining cultivation and life into one final attack, ending the long hidden service that began behind the public fiction of betrayal. (Chapter 1388)

Appearance and personality

Fang Yanxu first appears as a middle-aged man whose ordinary presentation disguises a Dao Realm foundation. He is disciplined enough to let generations believe he forsook the clan, and decisive enough to abandon that cover when extinction becomes possible. His guidance to Meng Hao is measured rather than flattering: he honors genuine alchemical authority but warns that insight without sufficient wisdom can become self-destructive. The same balance defines his conduct on South Heaven, where he suppresses his own realm instead of treating power as permission to ignore planetary law. Abilities and cultivation

Dao Realm cultivation

Yanxu has reached the Dao Realm and can overwhelm multiple Quasi-Dao attackers through a casual gesture backed by Essence power. He remains vulnerable to peer-level counters, curses, planetary restrictions, and war attrition: Fang Daozi wounds him, South Heaven forces him to suppress his cultivation, and the final invasion costs him his life. Essence of plants and vegetation

His demonstrated Essence makes vegetation proliferate in vast numbers and turns the surrounding plant life into an extension of his Dao power. It can suppress Quasi-Dao enemies and reshape a battlefield without individual weapon strikes. Fang Daozi's counter causes the summoned growth to wither and rebounds as blackening injury or curse, establishing that the Essence can be neutralized by an enemy who understands or opposes its governing principle. Alchemy and Medicine Immortal Sect

Yanxu founded the Medicine Immortal Sect, giving him institutional and technical authority in medicinal cultivation. He can assess Meng Hao's alchemical achievements and recognize when insight is approaching the level of a Great Dao. His warning explains an important limit: comprehension is not merely information that can be seized early; without accumulated wisdom, the cultivator may be unable to bear or integrate it. Yanxu's bow later acknowledges Meng Hao's achieved office as Lord of the Dao of Alchemy, distinguishing respect for the Dao from personal seniority. (Chapters 1011–1017)

Cultivation suppression

On Planet South Heaven, Yanxu seals his Dao Realm power and operates at the great circle of the Ancient Realm. The suppression lets him remain under the planet's laws and assist without immediately provoking the Death Formation. It sharply limits his available strength, however, and any sustained leakage of Dao aura can make the formation target and kill him. Withdrawal is therefore a mechanical necessity rather than cowardice. (Chapters 1168, 1181–1196)

Dao-breakthrough support

Yanxu understands Dao advancement well enough to help Fang Xiufeng survive his breakthrough. With Fang Shoudao and Meng Hao, he divides the Deva Tribulation so that no single participant bears the entire heavenly assault. This is coordinated protection, not the ability to grant another person's Dao: Xiufeng still has to complete his own transformation, and the protectors expose themselves to the tribulation's force. Self-detonation

His final technique destroys his own body and cultivation to release their remaining power at once. It is an irreversible battlefield sacrifice used only after the Fang defenders have suffered catastrophic losses. The text records the detonation and death but does not establish that it reverses the war by itself. (Chapter 1388)
