Crown prince, shield wielder, explorer, and HeroRevival

Paul Von Cravis is the crown prince of the Cravis Empire, an Edias explorer, and the successor Hero of his world. Initially a novice shield bearer in Ellos's party, he later accepts the world power recovered after Ellos's betrayal and returns home with the strength and responsibility to defend Edias. He is distinct from the British S-ranker Paul Bacchus. (Chapters 4–6 and 269–326)

Biography

Explorer, crown prince, and successor Hero

Paul first fights beside Ellos Von Kasina as the shield bearer assigned to hold the Orc Lord. He dies during their first attempt but returns after the dungeon's one-week penalty and improves enough to withstand the same attack in the successful rematch. Much later, Shin discovers that the apparently carefree party member is the Cravis Empire's crown prince. With his father incapacitated, Paul must govern in his place and cannot join the mission to find Edias's missing Hero, revealing why duty and dungeon life produce such different sides of him. (Chapters 4–6 and 269–270)

The rescue mission ends with Edias's Hero dead and Ellos betraying the world after receiving its power. Kang Shin retrieves that power and chooses Paul as the successor because he knows Paul personally and trusts his sense of responsibility. Paul initially refuses, aware of his poor offensive talent, but admits that he wants to protect both the empire and humanity. On Earth, Shin and Revival retrain him around the task he already understands best: surviving, defending, and refusing to abandon the people behind his shield. (Chapters 277–279)

After months of training, Shin transfers the remainder of Edias's world power to Paul. Paul asks to remain for Earth's final conflict out of gratitude, but Shin sends him home because Edias still needs its Hero. Paul returns stronger, carrying both the completed power and an unwitting part in Shin's contingency involving Lespina at the Peruta Mountain Range. His latest confirmed state is alive in Edias, charged with defending his own world. (Chapters 325–326 and 351)

Appearance and personality

In the dungeon Paul is a brown-haired man in thick leather armor who carries a large shield. As crown prince he instead appears in ornate armor at the head of the Cravis court. Shin finds the contrast pronounced: Paul's relaxed, somewhat clumsy dungeon manner looks ill-suited to ceremony, while political necessity makes him solemn and dutiful. (Chapters 4 and 269–270)

Paul is friendly, self-deprecating, and easily intimidated by stronger companions, but he is not irresponsible. He remains in the capital when his father's collapse makes him acting ruler, accepts painful training once Edias's survival is put plainly before him, and later resists leaving Earth only because he wants to repay its defenders. Shin judges his combat talent limited but his character and sense of responsibility appropriate for a Hero. (Chapters 269–270, 277–279, and 325–326)

Powers and abilities

Paul is a dedicated tank trained in shield technique and a crown prince's mana cultivation method. He can hold a Floor Master's attention, absorb attacks for a party, and recover from failure through repeated dungeon practice. His early weakness is incomplete defensive technique: powerful blows still kill him, and he admits that failures to control enemies have endangered Ellos. Shin therefore rebuilds his stance and fundamentals instead of trying to turn him into an attacker. (Chapters 4–6 and 278–279)

As Edias's successor Hero, Paul receives his world's power from Shin. The transfer takes months and is difficult enough that Shin must stabilize the energy while Paul assimilates it. The corpus does not show Paul using a named Hero authority after returning home, so the precise offensive effects and limits of his completed power remain unknown. His clearest demonstrated advantages remain durability, defensive training, and the responsibility to survive. (Chapters 277–278 and 325–326)

Relationships

  • Ellos Von Kasina: Ellos leads Paul's early dungeon party and later serves as his royal guard. Paul admires him and finds his later withdrawal difficult to understand, but Ellos's betrayal is also what forces Paul to become Edias's new Hero. (Chapters 4–6 and 269–278)
  • Kang Shin: Shin first knows Paul as a fellow novice explorer, then selects and trains him as a successor Hero. Their relationship is severe but trusting: Shin recognizes Paul's limitations, builds on his defensive strengths, and ultimately entrusts Edias's world power to him. (Chapters 4–6 and 269–326)
  • Ren Verotude Goldlion: Ren and Paul undergo Shin's intensive training together. Shared dread of the “thrashing phase” creates camaraderie between two crown princes with very different combat talents. (Chapters 278–281)
  • Ludia: Ludia recognizes Paul from their earlier dungeon circles and receives him on Earth after his selection as Edias's successor. Her restrained reaction helps him understand that Ellos is gone without forcing either of them to recount the loss publicly. (Chapter 278)
