Dortu

Dortu is the metal elemental contracted to Kang Shin and the fourth elemental named in his awakening vision. Born from an egg connected to the world Xenon, he can inhabit metal, transform inanimate matter, reinforce equipment, and create weapons, barriers, mirrors, and explosives. His unusual nature initially makes him imperceptible even to beings capable of sensing other spirits. (Chapters 28, 294–301, and 307–352)

Biography

Awakening and the First Dungeon

Dortu's first publication appearance is a flash-forward during Shin's awakening, where he identifies himself and promises to follow his master's command. The statement appears long before the present-day story explains what he is. Shin later receives a metal egg associated with Xenon during Syrmia Bamirtuno's funeral on the Luka continent, but the corpus does not identify Dortu's parent, maker, species history, or the exact process by which the egg reached her. (Chapters 28 and 296)

The egg disappears only a few days before the battle with the Death King. Shin does not initially realize that Dortu has been born until the dungeon offers a contract with a new elemental, because Dortu is unseen and can reside inside armor, weapons, or jewelry. He first acts openly when the Death King threatens Shin's mother, metallizing the lich's pointing finger before using the enemy's own devil doll as a weapon. This late chronological debut fulfills the much earlier vision without establishing that Dortu was active during Shin's original awakening. (Chapters 294–296)

Guardians and World Enemies

Dortu is uniquely effective against the Death King because the lich's body is no longer living. He transforms the devil doll and the king's bones into metal, draws on the mana inside both to spread the change, and leaves the enemy as a metallic figure. The feat costs roughly 300,000 mana and does not itself kill the lich. Shin and Daisy still have to locate and destroy the separate life vessel, while Dortu's inability to metallize living creatures remains a clear restriction rather than a temporary inconvenience. (Chapter 295)

To expose the vessel, Dortu turns a broad region of earth into metal while living life-force fragments remain distinguishable. When the Death King resists, Dortu changes the ground to pure gold, whose mana resistance prevents further alteration even by Dortu himself. He then begins reinforcing Shin's equipment, temporarily improving Pure Black Desire and the Chaotic Spear; prolonged residence could make the change permanent. Working with Sharana, he also produces a vast mirror network, though this demonstration takes about 300,000 mana before her additional amplification cost. (Chapters 296 and 300–301)

Final Wave and the Dungeon's End

Dortu's control becomes faster, broader, and more creative through repeated use. He learns to create orichalcos, protect Shin by inhabiting his armor, control familiar robots after an hour of work, turn falling debris or sand into bombs, and nullify the Death Lord's extraordinary armor. He can seed enemies with metallic fragments and detonate them, but changing moving or resistant objects still takes time and mana. His growing experience improves efficiency without removing those dependencies. (Chapters 307, 309, 315, 323, 330, and 332)

During the dragon battle, Dortu materializes for the first time as an armored knight with a large shield. Despite low remaining mana, he blocks breath, plants explosive metal in the dragon's neck, and reinforces Shin's giant mana blade with a thin metallic edge made by absorbing the breath's heat. The edge allows the blade to cut through the attack and the dragon's neck. Dortu remains active during the final campaign, and the ending explicitly includes him among the elementals made complete by their contracts with a master. (Chapters 339–340, 343, and 352)

Appearance and personality

Before materialization, Dortu has no visible humanoid body in the supplied corpus. He can infest or reside in metal and may be present in Shin's armor, spear, earring, or necklace without being seen even by observers who perceive ordinary elementals. When he finally materializes, he resembles a knight whose entire body is covered in thick armor and who carries a large shield. No face, hair, eyes, apparent age, or body beneath that armor is described. (Chapters 295–296 and 339–340)

Dortu speaks in short, formal declarations that nearly always begin by identifying himself. He is literal, loyal, quietly proud of effective work, and offended by disrespect toward Shin; his first combat remark calls pointing at his master rude. Experience develops a dry sense of humor, including complaints about arduous work and well-timed jokes during explosions. He also shows emotional attachment and mild jealousy rather than functioning as an impersonal tool. (Chapters 28, 295, 298–306, 315, 323, and 351)

Powers and abilities

Metallization and metal habitation

Dortu can transform inanimate objects into metal if Shin supplies enough mana. He can choose ordinary metal, pure gold, or later orichalcos, while the amount, motion, composition, and resistance of the target affect time and cost. He may inhabit existing metal and act through equipment, which explains why Shin initially cannot determine where he is. Living beings cannot be directly metallized, but undead bodies, dolls, stone, earth, sand, petrified targets, and other lifeless matter fall within the demonstrated scope. (Chapters 295–298, 307, and 309–332)

The limitation concerning life is operationally useful as well as restrictive. Turning the Death King's surroundings to metal leaves his distributed life force identifiable, allowing Daisy and Licorice to recover it. Pure gold offers strong magical resistance and cannot be changed again once Dortu creates it, including by Dortu himself. These rules prevent his claim that he can turn “anything” into metal from being read literally without the qualifications that the later demonstrations supply. (Chapters 295–298)

Equipment reinforcement and control

By residing in or acting on equipment, Dortu can temporarily increase its defense, magic resistance, and offensive aura. He reinforces Pure Black Desire, the Chaotic Spear, gauntlets, barriers, and a mana blade; remaining inside an item for a long period can make some strengthening permanent. He also analyzes unfamiliar metals, controls mechanical bodies, and nullifies enemy armor. The corpus does not provide fixed statistics for these improvements, and exceptionally alien material such as Steel can initially resist direct strengthening. (Chapters 300, 309, 319, 323, 330, and 339–340)

Control is not instantaneous in every case. Dortu needs varying time depending on an object's state and momentum, and his first attempts to take over robots are slow. Experience with similar machines reduces the process to about an hour, while Shin's petrification can make incoming objects easier to metallize. His best results therefore combine elemental authority with preparation, repeated exposure, or another one of Shin's powers rather than bypassing all resistance on contact. (Chapters 309 and 323)

Construction, mirrors, and explosives

Dortu can create metallic fragments, crystals, mirrors, walls, shields, blades, and bombs from surrounding matter. His mirrors spread Shin's eye or breath techniques over vast areas, while his fragments can enter armor gaps, melt into an enemy, or serve as “seeds” detonated from within. Against dragons he produces barriers sturdy enough to redirect attackers and converts heat from breath into a cutting edge, demonstrating that construction can be defensive, offensive, and transformational within the same battle. (Chapters 301, 315, 319, 330, 332, and 339–342)

Scale remains mana-dependent. A mirror field can consume hundreds of thousands of points, broad terrain conversion drains most of Shin's reserve, and Dortu's materialized defense weakens when both elemental and contractor are nearly empty. He can absorb mana or heat from targets in particular situations, but those examples do not establish self-sufficient energy generation. His versatility is exceptional because ordinary surroundings become usable material, not because the conversion is free. (Chapters 295–301 and 339–340)

Materialization and elemental completion

Dortu initially exists without an observable materialized form and communicates through Shin's mind. In the dragon fight his voice becomes audible and he manifests as the armored knight who protects his master. The scene establishes first materialization but does not name a seal release, awakening tier, duration, or separate transformation skill. His physical shield and armor express the same metal authority he already used while invisible. (Chapters 339–340)

The ending places Dortu within the general rule that elementals begin incomplete and become complete by meeting and contracting with a master. This makes his bond with Shin part of his nature, not merely permission to draw mana. He remains distinct from the other three elementals in origin, perception, and substance, and the corpus never resolves whether more beings like him exist on Xenon. (Chapters 296 and 352)

• Kang Shin: Shin carries Dortu's egg, supplies the mana for his transformations, and becomes the master he promised to follow in the awakening vision. Dortu protects him, reinforces his gear, objects to disrespect directed at him, and ultimately gains a materialized form and completeness through their contract. (Chapters 28, 294–301, and 307–352)
• Sharana: Sharana can strengthen Dortu's metal even though she is a wind elemental. Their best-known combination creates and amplifies a mirror network for Breath of Death, while both also reinforce the complex whirlpool around Shin and his spear. (Chapters 300–301)
• Ruyue: Ruyue fights beside Dortu as one of Shin's four elementals and helps defend him during the dragon battle in which Dortu first materializes. The ending names both as elementals whose contracts with Shin complete them, although the corpus does not give them an independent personal arc together. (Chapters 339–340 and 352)
• Peika: Peika and Dortu combine lightning with created or transformed metal, particularly when metallic enemies and projectiles become conductors for her attacks.
