Death Lord

Death Lord is the fortieth Floor Master of Beyond, a former human warrior who becomes an undead world enemy solely to continue fighting. After Kang Shin destroys his armored body, the Death Lord reveals that his life survives inside his giant axe, where he remains conscious through the end of the supplied corpus. (Chapters 328–331 and 352)

Biography

The Warrior Waiting Beyond Death

The Death Lord once exhausts the opponents on his own continent, raises those he killed as Death Knights, and crosses into another world to continue killing. He gives up his world's power and becomes a lich because battle matters more to him than ruling or survival. Sherafina eventually offers him a place in the dungeon and the promise of an opponent capable of defeating him, so he willingly waits on Beyond's fortieth floor for a Savior Hero. (Chapter 329)

When Shin enters, the Death Lord welcomes the long-awaited fight and explains that his soul remains sealed within his “body” so defeat can destroy him completely. He fights alone with an axe, armor, aura, and overwhelming death energy, but Shin absorbs part of that energy while Peika opposes it with lightning and Dortu nullifies the armor. Shin destroys the exposed core in his chest and appears to annihilate him, only for the Death Lord to reveal that a warrior's weapon counts as part of his body and that his life is actually in the axe. Shin gives the black axe to Loretta, whose appraisal cannot read it and who accepts it as protection. The Death Lord remains inside while the dungeon's final conflict unfolds, demonstrating that Sherafina cannot control every being within her system. By Chapter 352 he can speak from the axe, accepts Shin's thanks for helping Loretta, and asks for a “cool new body”; whether one is ever made is not shown. (Chapters 331, 349, and 352)

Appearance and personality

In the Floor Master room, the Death Lord resembles a normal human in shape except for his titanic size. He wears dark-blue armor and a black cape, carries an axe larger than his body, and has two blue flames burning where his eyes should be. His body is destroyed without leaving a trace, so his latest state has no independent visible form beyond the giant black axe that contains him. (Chapters 328–331)

He is talkative, theatrical, and consumed by the desire to fight worthy opponents. He openly explains apparent weaknesses, praises Shin's strength, laughs when injured, and rejects summoning assistance because he always fights alone. His candor has a trickster's edge: claiming his soul is inside his body is technically true only because he regards the axe as part of that body. After defeat, however, he cooperates as Loretta's weapon and asks for a replacement body rather than continuing the duel. (Chapters 328–330 and 352)

Powers and abilities

In his Floor Master body, the Death Lord combines lich-like survival, overwhelming death energy, high-level axe combat, and exceptional defensive equipment. Shin destroys that body and its active combat apparatus, leaving only the consciousness preserved in the axe; the corpus does not demonstrate that the bodiless Death Lord can still cast or fight independently. Undeath and death energy

The Death Lord separates his soul while keeping it within his body, becoming a lich without an external phylactery in the conventional sense. Death energy saturates his physical form and functions as weapon, curse, armor, and concealment from living power. He can emit enough of it to rot ordinary flesh merely through proximity, shape it into thorns and whips, and continually strengthen himself even as his body takes damage. Breath of Death lets Shin absorb and filter some of this energy, establishing that its vast quantity is formidable but not untouchable. (Chapters 328–330)

He can solidify death energy into Death Crystal for defense, binding chains that carry and amplify injected energy, aura waves, spheres, and a black mana barrier capable of stopping Peika. Lightning and flame can burn away portions of the surrounding death energy, but its volume prevents those attacks from easily reaching his body. Once Dortu removes his armor and cover, the jewel-like core in his chest becomes vulnerable to a concentrated direct strike. (Chapters 329–330)

Axe combat, aura, and armor

The Death Lord is described by the dungeon as a warrior and mage who had never experienced defeat before Shin. His physical strength, reinforced by death energy, lets his axe meet attacks carrying hundreds of thousands of mana, while the weapon grows larger, sharper, and tougher by absorbing that energy. He also launches enormous aura waves and can block Heroic Strike without the axe taking a scratch. His insistence on fighting alone and meeting attacks head-on gives Shin and Dortu time to analyze his defenses. (Chapters 329–330)

His dark-blue armor resists Shin, Peika, and Dortu for much of the battle, while his cape completely absorbs one attack before disappearing. Dortu eventually nullifies both armor and surrounding protection, and Shin's control over weapons slows the final axe strike. These counters show that neither his equipment nor martial power is absolute when opponents combine analysis, elemental authority, and concentrated force. (Chapters 329–330)

Survival within the axe

The Death Lord's last safeguard places his life inside his black axe, based on his assertion that a warrior's weapon is part of his body. This preserves his consciousness after the dungeon announces annihilation and after his humanoid form vanishes. The axe then ceases to behave as an ordinary weapon under Shin's control, remains beyond Sherafina's appraisal, and can communicate while Loretta carries it. The corpus does not show the Death Lord independently moving the axe, recreating his body, or using his former death magic without a wielder. (Chapters 330–331 and 352)

Relationships

• Kang Shin: The Death Lord waits specifically for a Savior Hero like Shin and receives his first defeat from him. Shin destroys his body, recognizes the trick preserving him in the axe, and later considers creating a replacement body for him. (Chapters 328–330 and 352)
• Sherafina: Sherafina brings the Death Lord into the dungeon by promising a worthy opponent, but cannot fully contain or control him. His independent survival becomes one example of the limits of her authority over her own system. (Chapters 328–330 and 349)
• Loretta: Shin entrusts the axe containing the Death Lord to Loretta as protection. She carries it through the final conflict, and his assistance helps ensure she survives until Shin returns. (Chapters 331 and 352)
• Peika: Peika materializes as a lightning dragon against the Death Lord, burns through his death energy, and weakens his axe. His barrier and energy reserve can resist her directly, requiring her attacks to be combined with Shin and Dortu's work. (Chapters 329–330)
• Dortu: Dortu analyzes and nullifies the Death Lord's armor without being perceived. Removing that defense exposes the Death Lord's chest core and creates the decisive opening for Shin. (Chapters 329–330)

Items

The Death Lord's giant black axe is both his principal weapon and the vessel that preserves his life. It withstands Heroic Strike without a scratch, can be strengthened with death energy, remains beyond Sherafina's appraisal, and is later given to Loretta. His dark-blue armor and single-use black cape provide exceptional defense during the Floor Master battle, but Dortu nullifies the armor and the cape disappears after absorbing one attack.
