Zhan LingTian

Zhan LingTian is a leading disciple of Heaven's Expanse Palace and the captain of its ZhongTian Battle Team. His pride, devotion to Shangguan Xue'er, and rare fusion of Light and Darkness first make him Zhou Weiqing's hostile rival, but shared mortal danger reveals an upright courage that earns Zhou's respect. His later defeats force him to measure ambition against the widening gap between them.

Biography

A captain compromised by jealousy

Raised under First Palace Master Shangguan Tianyang, Zhan LingTian becomes one of Heaven's Expanse Palace's foremost young core disciples and leads the ZhongTian Battle Team. He initially refuses Shangguan Fei'er's demand to infiltrate the Heavenly Jewel Tournament finals because changing the roster violates the rules and puts a Palace daughter at risk. Fei'er overcomes that principled resistance by claiming Zhou stole Xue'er's first kiss. Zhan has loved Xue'er since childhood, and jealousy turns his steady judgment into killing intent; he admits Fei'er to the team so she can retaliate. (Chapter 95)

That anger shapes his decisions inside the Lustre Spatial Realm. While Zhou and several others try to save a dying mother dragon, Zhan breaks away from his own opponent and attacks Zhou. The choice reflects both his personal grudge and his determination to control a chaotic contest, but it leaves him vulnerable to Zhou's Dragon Silencing Seal. With his Stored Skills and Consolidated Equipment sealed, Zhan still tries to meet the Legendary hammers head-on rather than retreat. Zhou shatters his hands, poisons him with the Demonic Right Leg, and forces him to leave the realm. Zhou later removes the poison, but the humiliation hardens Zhan's hostility rather than settling it. (Chapters 103–105)

Courage beyond the rivalry

After recovering, Zhan travels north as a representative of Heaven's Expanse Palace and joins Zhou's group during its investigation near the WanShou frontier. He remains cold and refuses Zhou's offered handshake, yet the expedition puts their dispute beneath a more serious threat. When the Blood Red Hell's Heavenly King Han Tianyou attacks, Zhan confronts him despite the overwhelming cultivation gap. He orders Fei'er to escape and report the betrayal, then commits all four pieces of his Legendary Set to a suicidal thrust at Han's throat, intending to trade his life for a wound if necessary. The strike forces Han to use a powerful defensive aura, but exhausts Zhan completely. (Chapters 136–139)

Zhou saves him with Touch of Darkness and later bluffs Han into retreating. Zhan resents the rescue at first, but he cannot dismiss either Zhou's composure or the group's shared survival. He begins asking Zhou what they should do next and accepts him as someone on his own level. Zhou, in turn, decides that Zhan is proud and excessively concerned with face but not a bad man; his willingness to stand against certain death outweighs their personal conflict. Zhan supports the decision to report Blood Red Hell's actions, entrusts Fei'er to Zhou rather than forcibly taking her home, and leaves with a rare smile after proposing a future rematch. His private hope that Fei'er's closeness to Zhou will remove him from Xue'er's path shows that the rivalry remains, but it is now restrained by respect and duty. (Chapters 139–143)

The final challenge and acceptance of defeat

Zhan eventually blocks Zhou from seeing Shangguan Bing'er and challenges him directly. His grievance is not merely a moment's jealousy: much of his lifelong training and pursuit of status has been driven by his love for Xue'er, while Zhou has formed relationships with all three sisters. Zhan reaches eight Jewels and prepares specifically to defeat him, but Zhou's strength and Saint Energy overcome the Light–Darkness fusion. Zhan's shoulder armor is destroyed and his shoulder badly smashed, leaving him unconscious and facing months of recovery. The sisters' concern for Zhou rather than him makes the emotional result as decisive as the physical loss. (Chapters 225–226)

He responds by training obsessively and advances to nine Jewels. When he later watches Zhou contend with the Heavenly Emperor Shangguan Tianyue, however, he sees that Zhou has already become a Heavenly King and can suppress a figure Zhan himself could not withstand. His remaining romantic rivalry cannot change that evidence. Honest even when pride gives him every reason to object, Zhan lowers his head, acknowledges inwardly that the contest is over, and leaves the later private discussion without interfering. Appearance and personality

Zhan LingTian is a tall, handsome young man whose controlled bearing suits a tournament captain and senior core disciple. His usual expression is stable and cold, and he carries himself with the confidence of someone raised among Heaven's Expanse Palace's elite. Strong emotion disrupts that reserve: news concerning Xue'er turns his eyes red with rage, while his later confrontations with Zhou make his expression openly icy or ugly. Proud, stubborn, and highly conscious of status, Zhan initially treats weaker outsiders from a position of superiority. His love for Xue'er is sincere but possessive enough to distort his judgment, making him susceptible to Fei'er's manipulation and unwilling to recognize Xue'er's own choices. Against those faults stand discipline, intelligence, personal courage, and an upright refusal to lie merely to preserve face. Abilities and cultivation

Zhan is a seven-Jeweled Heavenly Jewel Master during the first tournament and northern expedition, advances to eight Jewels before his formal challenge to Zhou, and reaches nine Jewels by his latest direct appearance. Before Zhou's rise, the narration identifies his cultivation as the strongest in Heaven's Expanse Palace's young generation; Xue'er's overall superiority comes from her complete Legendary Set rather than a higher basic cultivation. Light and Darkness fusion

His Alexandrite Cat's Eye Elemental Jewels carry the opposing Light and Darkness Attributes. He cultivates them in an unusual physical division—Darkness through the left half of his body and Light through the right, with Heavenly Energy protecting their central boundary. By bringing the opposed forces together at the moment of attack, he produces violent explosive and piercing power greater than that of a single Saint Attribute at equivalent purity. Light-Dark Divine Spear and Legendary Set

Zhan's specially designed Legendary Set has nine intended pieces; he possesses four during the covered fights. Its core is the Light-Dark Divine Spear, a long gold-and-black God Tier weapon, while the other three pieces chiefly amplify his attributes rather than provide ordinary attack or defense. The spear can hold two of his strongest Skills in reserve, and its reach and narrow force make it particularly effective at piercing defenses. Delaying the supplemental pieces also lets Zhan conceal the true scale of an attack, as he does against Han Tianyou. His Thousand Light Strikes divides the spear's power into countless gold-and-black filaments. Each strand contains fused Light–Darkness energy and explodes when it meets an obstruction; the scattered strands can then reconverge into one penetrating point. This flexibility lets the technique saturate an area and then concentrate against a surviving defense. Zhou's Ward of the Demon God delays it and Saint Energy weakens it, demonstrating that even a successful penetration may fail against superior energy quality and physical resilience. Combat judgment and limitations

Zhan combines rapid spear work with extensive battle experience, strong killing intent, and the resolution to accept injury for a decisive thrust. He can shift between sweeps, direct piercing attacks, and suicidal exchanges without hesitation. His greatest recurring limitation is emotional: pride makes him meet Zhou's hammers while sealed, and jealousy pushes him into challenges whose personal stakes cloud his judgment. • Zhou Weiqing: Zhan begins as Zhou's jealous would-be killer, becomes a reluctant ally after Zhou saves him and outmaneuvers Han Tianyou, and finally accepts that Zhou has surpassed him. Respect never entirely removes the romantic resentment, but it prevents that resentment from overriding his honesty.
• Shangguan Xue'er: Xue'er is Zhan's childhood love and the central motive behind much of his training. She does not reciprocate, and his failure to accept her autonomy fuels his worst choices.
