Emir Bahadir
Emir Bahadir is a gold-rank adventurer whose wealth, cloud vehicles, and taste for exotic treasure hunts are matched by a strong instinct for patronage and command. He provides sanctuary and opportunity to younger adventurers, especially Jason Asano and Sophie Wexler, while Constance Bahadir turns his ambitious ideas into a functioning organisation. When those schemes collide with the Builder, messengers, and Undeath, Emir repeatedly places his resources and experience at the service of people he has chosen to protect. (Chapters 99, 114, 145–156, 752)
Biography
Reaper trials and the Builder crisis
Emir arrives in Greenstone pursuing the Order of the Reaper's legacy, but the failed astral-space expedition immediately changes his priorities. He organises the rescue around tracking stones, portals, and fast transport, then personally searches for survivors instead of treating the disaster as a distraction from treasure hunting. His arrival restores confidence to frightened adventurers, and his restraint in dealing with grief and religious hostility establishes him as an authority who uses gold-rank power to steady a room rather than merely dominate it. (Chapters 99, 109–111, 134)
That protective impulse extends to his household. Emir refuses Elspeth Arella's demand that he surrender Sophie and Belinda, sheltering them in his cloud palace when no ordinary place in Greenstone can keep them safe. He is interested in Sophie's unusual fighting potential, but Jason's proposed patronage is built around giving her a genuine choice. Emir similarly designs the Reaper trials to cultivate elite young adventurers: he openly seeks the Golden Scythe while offering his own Cloud Flask as the grand prize, turning personal ambition into an opportunity for the next generation. (Chapters 108, 114, 145–156)
Emir's preference for controlled schemes does not keep him outside the Builder crisis. He hires Callum to protect Jason and help capture cultists, and his people join the raid that exposes Purity's cooperation with the enemy. The later revelation is more uncomfortable: the cult knew about the Reaper astral space and waited for Emir to assemble the key that opened it. His treasure hunt therefore supplies the timing for a trap, forcing him to accept that resources and careful planning can still be manipulated by an opponent with deeper preparation. (Chapters 147, 189–190, 242)
Yaresh and the messenger war
By the Yaresh campaign, Emir's cloud palace has become infrastructure for a much larger alliance. It carries people, hosts strategic meetings, and gives displaced forces a stable headquarters, while Emir works alongside Constance and members of his old adventuring circle. Re-forming that team with Constance in place of the still-unwell Callum shows how his private and professional loyalties have converged: the organisation may begin with Emir's ideas and public presence, but he openly recognises that Constance supplies the detail and continuity that make those ideas viable. (Chapters 598, 701, 744, 752)
Emir's most important contribution is often judgement rather than spectacle. When Jason is physically and emotionally spent, Emir supports him and warns that the habit of producing miracles can kill the person everyone relies upon. He is reluctant to leave his friend, but accepts that the battle needs his power elsewhere. Jason later appoints him tactical commander of a reinforcement group because he is its strongest and most experienced member, entrusting him to decide when a fight advances the mission and when it only wastes time. (Chapters 769, 775)
That discipline defines Emir during the defence of the brightheart citadel. His enormous staff pillars look overwhelmingly destructive, but he immediately explains that they are primarily stunning and displacement tools and orders the group to keep moving. He then uses smaller conjured staves to immobilise gold-rank undead for Jason's plan and rapidly extends his personal staff to divert a collapsing wall away from living defenders. The campaign turns his flair for dramatic treasure hunting into dependable battlefield service without erasing the showmanship that makes him Emir. (Chapters 775–777)
Appearance and personality
Emir has midnight-black skin and dark hair woven into close rows threaded with colourful beads. He favours neat, fitted clothing and carries himself with the ease of someone accustomed to both wealth and physical power. His controlled aura can disappear into the environment so completely that even Jason's enhanced senses initially struggle to detect him, making Emir's polished, conspicuous style an intentional contrast with his magical stealth. (Chapters 99, 101)
He is adventurous, theatrical, and attracted to rare prizes, but not careless about other people. Emir can turn a dangerous contest into a grand public event, yet remains transparent about what he wants and pays generously for the risk. He is also quick to interpose himself between anger and an easy target, whether stopping Danielle from attacking a priest or preventing frightened leaders from losing focus after a death. (Chapters 134, 145–156)
Emir's confidence includes an unusual willingness to acknowledge his own limitations. He credits Constance for the organisation behind his public success, explains when a dramatic power is less lethal than it looks, and yields tactical pride when movement is the better choice. That self-awareness makes him an effective patron: younger adventurers receive resources and opportunity, but also an example of power exercised with proportion. (Chapters 752, 769, 775)
Magic and abilities
Gold-rank body, aura, and movement
As a gold-rank essence user, Emir possesses physical force, speed, perception, and resilience far beyond lower-ranked adventurers. His control is equally important: he can shake Jason's hand without harming him, precisely temper an aura capable of crushing a silver-ranker's pressure, and extend calm authority through a tense room. His aura naturally melds with its surroundings, allowing him to hide from magical senses until he chooses to reveal himself. (Chapters 99, 111, 134)
Emir also uses a mirage step that produces deceptive movement and afterimages. It lets him cross a room before powerful observers can react and helps him reposition in combat without relying on brute force. The technique is excellent for interception, evasion, and surprise, but it does not replace the need to identify the right target or tool; during the Builder rescue, even Emir's speed cannot prevent a star seed from killing its host before a suppression collar can secure him. (Chapters 111, 134)
Conjured staff and battlefield control
Emir conjures a black staff marked with gold script and capped or shod in gold. Striking it against the ground can make much larger copies erupt beneath enemies, smashing constructs apart or throwing stronger targets through the air. At gold rank he produces pillars hundreds of metres long and uses smaller versions as restraints. The common purpose is control—stunning, pinning, interrupting, and moving enemies—rather than concentrated killing power. Undead recover from those effects quickly, which makes target selection and follow-through essential. (Chapters 111, 775)
The staff itself can extend and retract with extraordinary speed. Emir uses that changing reach to intercept a cascade of masonry from a collapsing wall and redirect it away from living defenders. This application shows the precision behind the spectacle: the same power that creates enormous impacts can serve as a mobile barrier, but only while Emir is present, attentive, and fast enough to meet each piece of debris. (Chapter 777)
Leadership, logistics, and cloud mobility
Emir is an experienced expedition organiser and field commander. He divides rescue forces according to rank and purpose, coordinates portals and tracking stones, and recognises when a powerful group should bypass an enemy instead of engaging it. These are learned professional skills rather than magical effects, and they depend on good information. The Builder cult's manipulation of the Reaper key demonstrates that even a well-resourced plan can be compromised when Emir does not know the opponent's true objective. (Chapters 109–111, 242, 775)
He can conjure flying clouds for rapid personal transport, while the Cloud Flask supplies much larger buildings and vehicles. These assets give his household unusual strategic mobility, but their convenience is not free: complex amenities and configurations consume magical resources, and the broad organisation surrounding them relies heavily on Constance's administration. Emir is the vision and public authority; his effectiveness at scale comes from accepting that he cannot also manage every detail. (Chapters 101, 190, 701, 752, 775)
Items
- Cloud Flask: Emir owns and demonstrates this legendary growth item as a ship that transforms into a cloud palace, then offers it as the prize for the Reaper trials. Jason's team wins it, transferring ownership, but Emir's later cloud vessels continue to make his household a mobile centre for transport, shelter, and strategy. Its advanced functions consume large quantities of magical materials. (Chapters 101, 145–156, 190, 701)
Relationships
- Constance Bahadir: Constance is Emir's wife, chief of staff, former and later renewed teammate, and the organiser who makes his treasure-hunting ambitions sustainable. Emir's willingness to credit her work reveals a partnership founded on complementary strengths rather than his public prominence alone. (Chapters 101, 744, 752)
- Jason Asano: Emir first investigates Jason out of curiosity, then becomes his patron, ally, and concerned senior adventurer. He shelters Jason's friends, rewards his team through the trials, and later challenges Jason's assumption that he must destroy himself to solve every crisis. (Chapters 99, 108, 145–156, 769)
- Sophie Wexler: Emir protects Sophie from Elspeth Arella and considers sponsoring her because of her unusual combat potential. Crucially, the arrangement is presented as an option rather than another authority claiming control over her life. (Chapters 108, 114)
- Humphrey Geller: Emir includes Humphrey's generation in the Reaper trials and later fights alongside Team Biscuit's wider circle. His patronage helps give Humphrey's team a transformative resource while reinforcing the responsibilities that accompany elite adventuring. (Chapters 145–156, 775)
- Callum: Callum is one of Emir's former teammates and a trusted operative whom Emir hires to guard Jason and investigate the Builder cult. Callum's later instability separates him from the re-formed team, but treatment and recovery eventually allow the old companions to work together again. (Chapters 147, 744, 945)
- Arabelle Remore: Arabelle is an old teammate who rejoins Emir during the Yaresh crisis. Their established trust lets Emir's reinforcements slot into the brightheart defence under her direct command without wasting time on status or rivalry. (Chapters 744, 775)
