Sloth
Sloth is a red epic cloak from the Seven Sins set. Randalph Brigsiel buys it as a sealed auction item, gaining agility and a time-like sensory acceleration whose loss of motivation makes mastery as important as raw speed.
History
A sealed test at auction
Sloth is offered under a seal that most bidders cannot read. Randalph's Mind's Eye reveals both its Seven Sins identity and a temporary strength penalty attached to the seal, convincing him that the dark spirits are testing whether he can recognize and afford the relic. He accepts the bait because uniting it with Wrath offers a major combat advantage, then begins testing the cloak rather than assuming its high grade makes the skill safe. (Chapters 64–76)
From individual skill to set component
Randalph alternates Sloth's sensory effect with Wrath's physical enhancement because using both before his intelligence rises risks losing control. When Infinity Armour supplies a third Seven Sins component, the individual Wrath and Sloth skills disappear and Corruption replaces them. The equipment later returns to separate form, and Sloth continues contributing agility even after its original named skill is no longer listed. It remains among Randalph's gathered sins in the final campaign. (Chapters 72–76, 98–142, and 190–241)
Abilities and properties
- Agility effect: Sloth contributes seven agility as a persistent item effect. (Chapters 64–69 and 190–241)
- Sensory acceleration: The original Sloth skill makes the world seem extremely slow by accelerating perception rather than simply forcing the body faster. The user can sense minute movement and react in advance, avoiding some of the brain strain of ordinary acceleration skills. (Chapters 72–76)
- Loss of motivation: Activation suppresses the will to move so strongly that Randalph must force himself to act, and the mismatch between heightened agility, stamina, and strength leaves him bruised after testing. The skill can be used only once every seven days. (Chapters 64–76)
- Combination limit: Randalph initially judges that he cannot safely activate Sloth together with Wrath until his intelligence is higher. After a third set piece is collected, both standalone skills are subsumed into Corruption instead of remaining independently available. (Chapters 72–76 and 113–121)
- Set origin: The item description calls Sloth the last work of the mythical blacksmith Oswen and links it to the Seven Sins. Later evidence confirms that the sins wandered through a crack and exert an attraction connected to Oswen, without fully explaining how the cloak left his custody. (Chapters 64–69 and 135–138)
