Sera

Sera is one of the first fire spirits raised by Randalph Brigsiel and, with Rei, the first to evolve to intermediate class. Her exuberant temperament attracts the larger of the two early spirit groups. After helping raise and organize the younger spirits, she seeks a secondary human contract and is later introduced with Rei as a partner of the Kim sisters' expedition team.

Biography

The spirited leader

Sera asks Randalph for a contract soon after her birth, calls him daddy, and is blessed by the Tree of Origin alongside Rei. The process consumes an Essence of Origin and advances both from low to intermediate class, making them exceptional among roughly one hundred thousand new spirits. Their opposite temperaments divide the population into two competitive groups; Sera's immature, energetic nature attracts the larger share. Despite fire spirits' usual hostility to water, she readily accepts water-spirit seeds as younger siblings and helps care for them. (Chapters 171–172)

When Randalph believes Yihi lost, Sera and Rei volunteer to fill the empty place and supervise the massed spirits' work. They later continue policing the younger population by receiving reports about Yihi's treatment of individual fire spirits. As their bodies and egos mature, both request human contractors so their siblings can learn how secondary contracts work. The corpus later presents the adult fire girls as partners of Kim Yura and Kim Min-ji's expedition team, but only explicitly assigns Rei to Yura; it does not separately name which sister holds Sera's contract. Appearance and personality

Sera begins as a fireball-like spirit and grows roughly one and a half times larger upon reaching intermediate class. By Chapter 191 she can assume an adult female form that resembles an ordinary girl except for hair made of fire, and she is introduced to the expedition in that fiery human-like form. Sera speaks of herself by name and is characterized as more like an immature child than the careful Rei. She is enthusiastic, direct, and highly social, quickly declaring water spirits her younger siblings and drawing more followers than Rei. Her childish presentation does not prevent responsibility: she supervises the younger spirits, volunteers to help in Yihi's absence, and pursues a human partnership to teach the wider group. The Tree of Origin's blessing and an Essence of Origin advance Sera directly to intermediate class. She grows from a small flame-like spirit into an adult, human-shaped girl with fiery hair.
