Chang He

Chang He is a fast, versatile disciple of the Boundless Sect who becomes Ye Fenghan's regular partner and one of the sect's three Demon Hunter leaders. His impulsiveness and love of excitement repeatedly put him in danger, but his mobility, broad collection of techniques, and ability to improvise make him an effective scout and unconventional problem-solver.

Biography

A flying ape and an unlikely partnership

Chang He first meets Ye Fenghan after the latter intervenes in a dangerous encounter. Proud of his speed, Chang He insists that he could have escaped without help and identifies himself as the cultivator ranked seventh for speed in the previous sect assessment. Their competitive exchange becomes a friendship built on opposing temperaments: Chang He chatters, boasts, and pursues novelty, while Ye Fenghan remains restrained and disciplined. When the sect issues an emergency summons during a contested harvest, both abandon the prize and report for duty. (Chapters 921–924)

Their first extended mission sends Chang He toward Thousand Illusions Island to gather intelligence. Night Demon attaches herself to him and Ye Fenghan, forcing the pair to accommodate her while completing their assignments. Chang He uses speed to rescue divers from Sea Spirits and a Blood Frenzy Shark, but the shark's blood control exposes the weakness behind his impressive mobility: he has neglected rigorous cultivation and lacks Ye Fenghan's direct combat power. The danger nevertheless establishes the trio as recurring companions, with Chang He usually mediating between Night Demon's whims and Ye Fenghan's severity. (Chapters 924–936)

Forcing an ally’s hand and confronting the Astrals

Chang He later accompanies Ye Fenghan to monitor Lin Zuiliu, whose promised intervention is meant to divert Long Sang's forces from the Boundless Sect. When they realize that Lin intends to wait until the sect has already suffered, the two use one of Su Chen's Bloodline Clones to impersonate him and attack Flat Order City in his name. The deception forces Lin to act rather than lose control of his own forces, accomplishing the strategic purpose he had tried to evade. (Chapters 963–965 and 998)

During the campaign against the Astrals, Chang He serves as Ye Fenghan's deputy in the Hidden Mountain Company's fourth squadron. Both have formed seven Lotus Platforms. When Ye investigates an unusual Astral gathering and is nearly killed, Chang He uses Whitetower Teleportation to pull him clear, helps capture a six-Astral amalgamation, and then stays behind with the squad to delay a stronger pursuer so Ye can deliver the specimen to Su Chen. His willingness to accept what appears to be a fatal rearguard action reveals courage beneath his habitual complaints; Su Chen's timely arrival prevents the sacrifice. (Chapters 1007–1011)

The fall of Sky City

Chang He joins the human assault on Sky City and becomes trapped inside its raised defenses with Ye Fenghan's group. He initially wants to destroy Arcana Towers and loot Perpetual Daylight Palace, but follows Ye toward the Demon-Executing Cannon when reminded that the larger battle matters more than private gain. A hidden Tenth-Ring Arcana Master nearly kills him, and Ye's Titan-Class puppet saves him before the pair help defeat the defender. (Chapters 1081–1083)

Once they seize the cannon, Chang He works its power controls while Ye aims. His excitement causes him to overshoot one setting and overheat the weapon, but he quickly adapts to its relationship between output, cooldown, and target durability. Their bombardment destroys enough Arcana Towers to open the city's barrier, then turns on Harpy forces at lower power so that the structure the Boundless Sect hopes to capture remains usable. The episode displays both sides of Chang He's battlefield value: he needs supervision, yet learns unfamiliar machinery quickly and applies it with enthusiasm. (Chapter 1083)

Hunting the returning gods

When divine worship begins spreading again, Chang He becomes one of the three leaders of the Demon Hunters alongside Ye Fenghan and Wang Xinchao. By then he has reached Foundation Establishment. His first shown confrontation with a divinely empowered elder nearly ends in death because he forgets to use his new realm's strength and underestimates a projected god; Ye intervenes, reinforcing the need for caution as worshippers gain access to stronger blessings. Chang He's loyalty hardens during an assault on the Secret Alliance. He discovers that one of its senior worshippers is his own junior martial brother but decides to kill him personally because the gathering's leaders have sacrificed human lives. He then enters a divine fog to save soldiers before the agreed reinforcement time and becomes trapped until Su Chen extracts the Demon Hunters. Later, during the invasion of the gods' territory, he devises an indecent but effective way to weaken rigid faith: make believers violate their own rules until shame damages their piety. Appearance and personality

His principal weakness is impulsiveness. He neglects cultivation, jumps into uncertain situations, and sometimes forgets abilities or instructions at decisive moments. By his latest appearance, the contrast remains rather than disappearing: he is still irreverent and reckless, but now channels those traits as a senior operational leader. Abilities and cultivation

Chang He develops from a Light Shaking cultivator with a speed specialty into a seven-Lotus-Platform expert and finally a Foundation Establishment cultivator. His range of learned techniques is broader than his raw power, making adaptation and support his defining strengths.

Wind Spirit Aspect and mobility

Chang He's Wind Spirit Aspect is the origin of his exceptional agility. At his introduction he claims that few Light Shaking cultivators can catch him, and his seventh-place speed ranking gives him the “Flying Ape” name. In practice he turns into a gust to cross a battlefield, intercept endangered people, and disengage from stronger enemies. He also learns Whitetower Teleportation, which lets him make short spatial leaps and rescue Ye Fenghan from an attack that would otherwise cut him apart. (Chapters 921, 932, and 1009)

Speed does not eliminate control effects. Ye Fenghan's Frost Aspect slows Chang He until a pursuing sword reaches him, and the Blood Frenzy Shark manipulates his blood faster than he can escape its influence. Chang He knows Raging Torrent Palms, Sumeru Void, Fata Morgana, barriers, and at least one wind-based attack in addition to his movement arts. Raging Torrent Palms can layer force onto a target, while Sumeru Void restrains movement; however, the source explicitly contrasts his Sumeru Void with Su Chen's much stronger version. He remains the weakest of the three Demon Hunter leaders in a direct duel, but his breadth of techniques gives him the best ability to respond to unexpected circumstances. Chang He's speed, curiosity, and comfort with deception suit reconnaissance. He gathers intelligence, helps impersonate Lin Zuiliu, tracks Astral movements, and learns the controls of the Demon-Executing Cannon during battle. He is also willing to exploit social and psychological weaknesses rather than rely on force, as demonstrated by his plan to disrupt divine faith through deliberate violations of religious rules.
