Bai Li

Bai Li is the strongest of four young candidates cultivated through the Lin Clan’s arrangement with the Gu Clan before the Hidden Dragon Institute examination. Despite being the only one without the Lin surname, he ranks first among the group. Biography

The outsider ranked first

Gu Qingluo first names Bai among the four youths the Lin Clan intends to use to dominate Northface City’s Hidden Dragon Institute allotment. His different surname makes Su Chen assume he is the marginal fourth candidate, but Gu corrects him: Bai is first. The arrangement places him alongside Lin Jingxuan, Lin Yemao, and Lin Shuyue while leaving his birth family, exact obligations to the Lin Clan, and any bloodline medicine unstated. (Chapter 23)

Bai does not join the Lin youths who confront Su Chen at Gu Qingluo’s tea gathering. The narration later identifies him as one of the few candidates under sixteen whose strength approaches that of an Origin Qi Scholar, while also making clear that he has not actually reached that realm. This absence keeps him outside Su Chen’s coercion of the Lin collateral branch and leaves their first direct meeting for the entrance examination. (Chapters 108–109)

The Hidden Dragon examination

During the examination, Bai leaves a written notice that he is moving into other regions rather than remaining where he began. He later appears in coarse clothing on a tree above Su Chen and Li Qingyun, having independently advanced from the thirteenth region into the twelfth. When Li proposes a duel, Bai accepts cautiously, but Su Chen redirects both competitors with the larger challenge of fighting toward the strongest first region.
