Joel

Joel is a former Royal Blue Academy linebacker who becomes one of Leonel Morales's most dependable commanders. His talent begins as the deceptively simple Sharpness Ability Index, but his greater importance is social and strategic: when Leonel is absent, Joel accepts the burden of leadership, reads people more accurately than most of their brothers, and makes the decisions that keep the group alive and together. That responsibility slows his personal cultivation for decades, yet it also turns the feared “Headhunter” into the general Leonel trusts at his back.

Biography

Surviving the first Zones

Joel enters the Metamorphosis as Royal Blue Academy's dark-skinned, hard-hitting linebacker, famous to football audiences as “Headhunter Joel.” The nickname describes the violence of his tackles, not a lack of discipline: he is a defensive leader with a kind everyday demeanor. His first Zone with James Bennett, Milan, and Zavier kills Zavier and leaves the survivors among only twelve students to regroup with Leonel. (Chapter 17)

Once Leonel organizes them, Joel translates football coordination directly into survival. Milan drives an Invalid backward with his tower shield and Joel pierces over his shoulder with an F-grade pike, the two moving as one. Joel follows Leonel's instructions without needing them repeated, helping make the former quarterback's authority credible to a frightened group. The first crisis therefore establishes both halves of his later role: a precise weapon fighter and a teammate willing to make a formation work. (Chapter 18)

From vanguard to general

When Earth's forces battle through an Invalid tide outside Royal Blue Fort, Joel fights in the leading hundred. He lowers his halberd, draws a handgun, and lands headshots with such cold efficiency that the narration declares the Headhunter returned. When the ammunition runs out and an ice guard breaks his halberd, he does not retreat; he closes ranks with Milan and Raj, trusting their shields and continuing against enemies capable of overwhelming their equipment. (Chapters 401 and 405)

The Fort's ruling generals remain sheltered while Joel, Milan, and Raj lead that vanguard. Maia responds by demoting the incumbents and naming the three replacements. Joel's promotion is earned through action rather than lineage, and he grows into the post by asking what Leonel would do whenever command presents an unfamiliar problem. By the next campaign, that simple standard has made the trio some of Royal Blue's most effective generals. (Chapters 465 and 575)

Weapon insight and campaigns beyond Earth

Joel continues serving as a general while Leonel travels through Valiant Heart and the Four Great Families' conflicts. When the group reunites, Joel immediately notices shifts in Leonel's expression and temperament even when he cannot explain them. Leonel, in turn, searches for swordfish with blade-like abilities because he wants a way to strengthen Joel's talent. Their concern is reciprocal: Leonel looks for technical answers, while Joel watches the person directing them. (Chapters 837 and 992)

The brothers' sea campaigns broaden Joel's command experience. During a disastrous naval engagement, he directs Milan to enlarge an Energy Shield across the fleet despite the strain, coordinating survival rather than chasing a personal duel. His affinity is initially described loosely as a Blade Affinity that sharpens whatever weapon he holds, but his preference remains long polearms—pikes, halberds, and eventually a glaive—whose reach lets him protect a line as well as cut through one. Choosing the brothers over the Void Palace

Joel's level head makes him the intermediary when Yuri and Savahn secretly ask the brothers to help Aina escape a coerced marriage. He stops Franco from escalating the first exchange, listens to Savahn's fuller account, and carries the decision back to Leonel. Although Joel believes Aina may still be Leonel's best chance at happiness, he accepts Leonel's refusal once Leonel explains that intervention would likely kill his grandmother or his brothers. Joel counsels, but does not replace, the agency of the person affected. (Chapters 1165–1170)

That same judgment guides the group's most consequential collective choice. When Leonel is admitted to the Void Palace, Joel refuses to bring the underprepared brothers with him. He reasons that they would either restrain Leonel or die if allowed to operate independently, and that neither outcome is acceptable. Remaining together hurts their short-term access to opportunity, but preserves the brotherhood long enough for it to become a real military core rather than a name carried over from school. Training through the Heir Wars

Over the following decade Joel, Arnold, and Allan spend more than ninety percent of their time training in the ocean. Joel later fights as the quiet counterweight to louder teammates: when Auren tries to interfere with Aina's battle, a surge of Blade Force stops him and Joel appears with a silver-black halberd. In mass combat he mirrors Leonel at the other flank of a shield formation, killing every enemy who tries to wrap around its sides. (Chapters 1759, 1885, and 1986)

His place is therefore not that of a detached subordinate. Joel is the brother who assumes Leonel's duties when Leonel is gone, and that necessity costs him development time. Later analysis finds his Sharpness Ability Index at only tier three after decades, explicitly connecting the slow progress to the leadership burden he carried. The limitation is a consequence of loyalty: the group survives because Joel divides attention that a specialist could have devoted entirely to power. (Chapter 2379)

Reforging his path in the God Realm

After Velasco's death, Joel and the others debate how to reach a grieving Leonel without driving him further inward. Their concern reflects long experience with a captain who rarely explains pain. When Leonel begins rebuilding his brothers, he first reforges their foundations with personally matched ores and brings the squad to tier nine of the Seventh Dimension. Joel later trusts Leonel enough to kill his transformed bear body so the Silver Tablet can restore him as a human, but explains that repeated death is not carelessness: he will endure it as many times as necessary to stop dying permanently. Leonel then identifies the unrealized law beneath Joel's talent. He gives Joel the compatible Heaviness Ability Index and offers a choice between directly absorbing a cleansed Glaive Domain Lineage Factor for immediate power or meditating on it for greater potential. Joel chooses the immediate fusion because he correctly reads that Leonel's methods will continue improving and that the lost potential is not absolute. He also accepts the Glaive Domain Ring as a study aid after Leonel warns that the Lineage Factor may retain hidden traps. (Chapters 2379–2383)

These gains support both offense and protection. Joel and Emna advance behind Milan and James, their blade trails acting as the formation's mobile striking edge. In Ma'at Bubble, Joel instinctively steps in front of Savahn when officials order her into a suspicious census bout. When a Ninth Dimensional Lord Guard lashes out at the Seventh Dimensional Savahn, Joel intercepts the attack with a halberd and concentrates his aura into a blade so deep it splits space and bisects the incoming Force. Final reforging and command

In the final war, Joel repeatedly fights as part of the brothers' integrated unit. Their banter—including the long-running revenge photographs from the one night he and Leonel drunkenly fell asleep holding each other—keeps their relationship recognizably human amid repeated death and resurrection. Against a Sylvan, Joel joins Arnold and Franco at the trunk and overwhelms it with a glaive assault while the rest of the team seals the battlefield. (Chapters 2994 and 3085)

Leonel also takes Joel into an incomplete world whose laws embody sharpness. Using Dimensional Cleanse as a foundation and Assimilate as the bridge, he concentrates the world's laws into Joel. A ringed star manifests behind him, its rings sounding like sharpening blades and slicing space, and Joel reaches the Ninth Dimension. This shortcut depends on Leonel selecting and assimilating a compatible incomplete world; it is not a technique Joel can independently reproduce. (Chapter 2986)

The brothers are subsequently rewound and rebuilt from the Third Dimension so that they can cultivate on a stronger human foundation. Joel is awake early enough to help Leonel photograph the others, and the group begins charging back toward the Ninth, but the corpus does not isolate Joel's recovered endpoint. His later arrival at the Glaive monument of the Idol Battlefield confirms that the glaive remains his active weapon path. By Chapter 3258 he stands with Leonel's generals before the Northern Star, alive and still one of the commanders through whom Leonel means to restore the Human Race. Appearance and personality

Joel is dark-skinned, with kind brown eyes and the heavily conditioned frame of a Royal Blue Three-Star linebacker. On the football field he is known for vicious, precisely placed hits; in war his imposing presence is usually framed by a long polearm. Later scenes emphasize his deep-brown eyes and halberds or glaives rather than establishing further fixed facial details. (Chapters 17, 1885, 2369, 2716, and 2985)

He is calm, observant, and socially insightful. Joel restrains more volatile friends, listens before deciding, and can distinguish Leonel's anger from indifference when others cannot. His quietness is not passivity: he accepts command when no one else can, confronts Leonel when necessary, and acts before speaking when an ally is endangered. His central tension is that leadership makes him indispensable while stealing time from his own growth. (Chapters 1165–1170, 1261, 2379, and 2711–2716)

Abilities and cultivation

Joel is a polearm combatant whose native Ability Index manipulates the physical law of sharpness. Later additions—Heaviness, Glaive Domain, world assimilation, and a rebuilt human foundation—are compatible layers rather than replacements. His documented cultivation includes tier nine of the Seventh Dimension before later reaching the Ninth through Leonel's incomplete-world procedure; a subsequent rewind returns the brothers to the Third Dimension to rebuild, and Joel's exact final recovered Dimension is not stated. Sharpness Ability Index

Sharpness increases piercing power by enhancing the physical parameters that make an object sharp. It is not a general command of blades, and it does not automatically grant mastery of every weapon. Leonel connects it to the physical laws on which Weapon Forces depend: edged and piercing weapons need sharpness alongside weapon-specific laws such as leverage. This makes the Index simple to activate—Joel channels it through a held weapon—but potentially broad in application. (Chapters 17, 841, and 2379)

Early on, the Index lets an F-grade pike penetrate a C-grade Invalid and later coats Joel's weapons in a sharpened aura. At mature levels, his Blade Force stops Auren, his polearms cut open battle formations, and his concentrated blade aura splits space and a Lord Guard's attack. The Index magnifies a weapon's piercing behavior; it does not make the weapon indestructible, as shown when an ice guard snaps his halberd, and a large enough cultivation disparity still requires timing, concentration, and support. The Index remains tier three after decades of divided attention. Leonel transfers a copy to Emna without removing Joel's own ability, and Joel continues using the path afterward. Heaviness and Glaive Domain

Heaviness is a second Ability Index chosen because it fuses unusually smoothly with Sharpness. Its immediate purpose is conceptual: by comparing two simple physical laws, Joel can understand the common structure linking innate abilities to Weapon Forces and thereby make a larger leap than raw accumulation alone permits. The source does not separately demonstrate a named Heaviness attack or give its tier, so later cutting feats cannot safely be assigned to it alone. (Chapters 2379 and 2382)

The cleansed Glaive Domain Lineage Factor grants a direct weapon affinity and a much easier path toward glaive comprehension. Domain Lineage Factors imperfectly imitate True Sovereignty by supplying comprehension or bringing it within a few steps; they do not prove that Joel becomes a True Sovereign. Leonel removes the known corruption that could dampen or control a bearer, but warns that other traps may remain. Joel chooses absorption for an immediate increase and uses the associated ring's stored glaives for insight, accepting reduced ease of future comprehension rather than an irreversible ceiling. Formation combat and command

Joel's football background gives him exceptional timing with partners. He attacks over Milan's shield, mirrors Leonel across a formation, advances behind the paired shields of Milan and James, and switches between firearms and polearms as range changes. His most consistent tactical application is edge control: he protects flanks, punishes enemies trying to pass a defensive line, and coordinates specialists whose abilities are stronger together. Command is also a combat capability. Joel can issue urgent battlefield calls, absorb partial information without panic, and preserve group cohesion when Leonel is absent. It carries a measurable cost because years spent leading leave his personal Ability Index underdeveloped. Incomplete-world assimilation and rebuilt foundation

Leonel's Assimilate procedure uses Joel's Dimensional Cleanse foundation to bind him to an incomplete world saturated with sharpness laws. A Saturn-like star appears behind him, the ringed blades cut space, and his aura rises into the Ninth Dimension. The procedure is a persistent empowerment performed on Joel, not an innate spell under his control, and its success depends on an appropriately matched world and Leonel's Fawkes ability. Dream Reverse later returns the brothers' bodies and souls to the Third Dimension so they can rebuild through Dimensional Cleanse and the Human Dimensional Method. They are unconscious for about a week before beginning a rapid climb back toward the Ninth. Joel's Glaive monument appearance proves that his weapon identity survives in some form, but the source does not explain how the rewind changes his Ability Indexes, Lineage Factor, assimilated star, or exact Dimension.
