Overview

The Soul-Fixing Needle can stabilize, restore, or forcibly define the relationship between a soul and its state. Its ordinary medical value is formidable, but Saul's final use reveals the danger in the name: what can fix a damaged soul can also fix every divided body of an enemy into one inescapable identity.

History

Payment and study

Sander transfers the Needle and its ancient soul-array knowledge to Saul. Saul studies simplified applications rather than treating the artifact as an effortless cure. (Chapters 822–849)

Gorsa's recovery

Saul adapts the stabilizing principle while treating Gorsa after Abyssal Eye exposure. The Needle helps hold a damaged, mutated soul in a recoverable relationship with the engineered bandage body. (Chapters 876–879, 945–947)

Reverse fixation

During the final confrontation, Gorsa reminds Saul that the Needle's direction can be reversed. Saul uses it with the Diary's written-name connection to force every Douglas avatar into one body, removing the spatial wizard's normal route of escape. (Chapter 1032)

Custody

Sander gives the Needle to Saul, who keeps it in his personal space while studying its arrays. In Chapter 1032 Saul throws it into Douglas's forehead; the Needle's disposition after Douglas reaches his endpoint is not shown.
