Biography

Return, experiment, and complete death

Douglas answers the summons of Kismet and Ophelia as the diary's former master, returning from the wider starry world with Fifth Rank spatial knowledge. He treats the threatened wizard world as an experimental site, creates more than a hundred Storm Eyes, and tries to force the Abyssal Eye to consume Iskaper so he can observe a Sixth Rank being's death. His body is distributed among thousands of spatially separated selves, but Saul uses the diary and fate lines to gather them; Kismet and the allied seal push the whole into the abyss, where the true Death Demon observes Douglas to his endpoint and kills him completely. Appearance and personality

Douglas often adopts the manner and ordinary routines of an approachable man, a surface that makes his indifference to mass death more unsettling. His distributed body can flicker, misalign, or appear as spatially separated avatars, and his calm curiosity persists even while entire continents become experimental variables. Abilities

He manipulates space across layers, bypasses formations, distributes himself among remote bodies, suppresses Fourth Rank wizards, and modifies the Mechanical Heart into the Heart of Slaughter. His most dangerous strength is structural: killing one manifestation cannot end a consciousness dispersed across thousands of coordinates. (Chapters 959, 1011–1014, and 1024–1032)

Relationships

• Kismet: Douglas created or controlled Kismet's diary-bound existence and tries to reclaim that authority during the final battle. (Chapters 915, 953, and 1026–1032)
• Saul: Douglas cultivates Saul as useful combat power, then becomes his final human antagonist when observation matters more to him than the world's survival. (Chapters 953–969 and 1002–1036)
• Ophelia: Ophelia summons Douglas and studies divided consciousness under him, but he treats even her avatars as disposable tools. (Chapters 915, 953, 959, and 1024)
