Biography

Haunted merchant, captive emperor, and brother

Sander first seeks help after fleeing a haunted property with his sister Mido's box among the belongings he cannot recover. His apparent life as a nervous merchant conceals Evernight royal blood, and the Tribunal later installs him as Emperor Alexandra, controls his body, and demands heirs capable of carrying the mermaid-linked lineage. He cooperates with Saul because freedom for atavistic mermaids and restoration of Mido matter more than the throne. Sander accepts Saul's plan to give Mido a black-branch body and make her a Symphony target, but he dies before the epilogue; Mido's sudden maturation is explicitly tied to losing her brother. Appearance and personality

As Sander he appears to be a harried traveling merchant; as Alexandra he is pale, weak, and ceremonially elevated while court wizards manage his body and reproduction. He is cautious and evasive but consistently protective of Mido and sympathetic to other beings reduced to bloodline resources. (Chapters 323–326 and 811–823)

Abilities

Sander is not presented as a powerful combat wizard. His value to the Tribunal lies in royal blood that can calm mermaids, while his survival skills, political position, and access let him negotiate for his sister and the atavistic captives. (Chapters 811–823 and 838–872)
