Biography
Emperor, ally, and eventual succession
Elo attends the Nephret Black Tide conference as the Fourth Rank ruler of the Black Flame Empire, honoring carefully made promises and bringing an independent power into the Tribunal-dominated defense. He returns the Soul-Fixing Needle tied to Evernight's royal agreement and commits his black flames against continental threats while maintaining a guarded political relationship with Saul, Frim, and Sander. Elo survives the principal wars, but the epilogue records that an accidental magical mutation later kills him. His longtime guard Stuart reaches Fourth Rank and inherits the empire, preserving political continuity without reversing Elo's death. (Chapters 834–870, 895–945, 1000–1020, and 1037)
Appearance and personality
Elo carries an imposing imperial presence and is commonly accompanied by the much smaller Stuart. He speaks sparingly, treats promises as binding because of his locator, and approaches alliances as state commitments rather than displays of friendship. (Chapters 830 and 834–850)
Abilities
His black-flame magic and Fourth Rank existence give him authority and battlefield power on a continental scale. The exact mechanism of the later mutation that kills him is not described. (Chapters 834–870, 914–945, and 1037)
