Guard, watcher, and successor
Stuart accompanies Emperor Elo to the Nephret Black Tide conference as the ruler's small, quiet confidant. His habit of placing harmless petal marks on people lets him detect their approach and protect Elo, while his position since the emperor's infancy gives him unusual personal trust despite the difference in rank. Stuart continues serving through the continental crises and survives the wars that follow. When Elo later dies in an accidental magical mutation, Stuart has already reached Fourth Rank and inherits the Black Flame throne, turning lifelong protective service into responsibility for the empire itself. Appearance and personality
Stuart is notably short and often curls into a small, quiet shape beside the imposing Elo. He observes more than he speaks, marks interesting or potentially dangerous people without hostility, and is defined by patient loyalty rather than courtly display. (Chapters 834–850)
Abilities
