Leandra's Necklace
Leandra's Necklace is a Technocrat access token and message vessel left for Zac and Kenzie Atwood by their mother, Leandra. What first appears to be a family keepsake later opens protected systems and delivers a message about the siblings' origins. (Chapters 116, 341, 453, and 491)
History
A family bequest
Robert hides the necklace with a diary addressed to both children. His note identifies it as a memento from Leandra and suggests it may help them find her. Zac takes custody while searching for his missing family. (Chapter 116)
Technocrat credentials
The necklace reacts when a Technocrat detector searches Earth for a supposed traitor. Aboard a Technocrat vessel, its sigil grants Zac Council Inspector access far beyond the hostage assisting him, allowing the necklace to serve as a ghost key through otherwise restricted areas. (Chapters 341 and 453)
Leandra's message
After Zac reaches E-grade, the necklace activates a synthetic intelligence modeled on Leandra. The message explains that she delayed activation to avoid drawing the System's attention and gives Zac his first direct account of her disappearance and the family's Technocrat ties. (Chapter 491)
Properties and use
- Inspector authorization: Technocrat systems recognize the token's archaic Council Inspector credentials. (Chapter 453)
- Conditional message: Its stored intelligence activates only after a blood descendant reaches E-grade. (Chapter 491)
- Identity beacon: Technocrat detection equipment recognizes the necklace's signature, making its use revealing as well as useful. (Chapter 341)
