Jiyo

Jiyo is an elderly Dark Faction Academy librarian whose family has preserved the Noctis Clan's hidden history since Bofan's era. He initially withholds the deepest records from Raze Cromwell, then opens the concealed Noctis throne room once Raze becomes faction leader.

Biography

Keeper of the academy archive

Jiyo enters after a disturbance in the academy library, clears the room, and questions Raze about his search for Bofan. Persistent questioning earns Raze a limited public account, but Jiyo sets a condition for anything more: the student must become leader of the Dark Faction. This refusal is not simple obstruction. Jiyo's family inherited a duty to protect records that previous leaders, including Murkel, sought without producing the result Jiyo hoped for. (Chapters 252–253)

Opening the Noctis record

After Raze defeats Murkel Dockthron, Jiyo watches him use Noctis arts in proper sequence and is moved by the return of what his family guarded. He leads the new leader through a Qi-activated hidden wall to the old throne room, explaining that Bofan was an outsider and traveler whose clan protected followers while pursuing portals. The preserved memory of a round object and a command to “save both worlds” remains incomplete, but Jiyo gives Raze the record and offers continuing help rather than claiming knowledge his line never possessed. Appearance and personality

Jiyo is a short, hunched old man in plain grey cloth, with eyes narrowed to tiny slits. His unassuming appearance contrasts with the authority that empties a library and the composure with which he tests faction leaders. He is cautious, patient, and emotionally invested in the Noctis legacy, yet careful to distinguish inherited testimony from facts he can personally verify. (Chapters 252–253 and 806–812)

Magic, cultivation, and abilities

Jiyo demonstrates Pagna training through swift movement, a gust-assisted arrival, and the Qi control needed to activate the Noctis chamber. Raze judges him to be some kind of master and suspects middle-stage cultivation, but the corpus does not directly confirm an exact stage or name a combat style. His best-established ability is archival: he preserves, interprets, and conditionally releases a multi-generational oral and written record. (Chapters 252–253 and 810–812)

Relationships

• Raze Cromwell: Jiyo first treats Raze as an inquisitive student who has not earned the Noctis secrets. After Raze becomes leader and demonstrates the arts, Jiyo recognizes him as the first promising bearer in years.
• Bofan: Jiyo is not shown meeting Bofan. His connection runs through the caretaker family that served Bofan and transmitted fragmentary records of his origin and goals.
• Murkel Dockthron: Murkel also sought the hidden history, but Jiyo contrasts his failure to bear fruit with his hope that Raze will act on it.
