Fixteen
Fixteen is Dame's childhood companion, confidant, and right-hand man. A cautious Neverfall warrior surrounded by far stronger heirs, he becomes the practical intermediary who turns Raze Cromwell's pills into money, materials, and political access. He supports Raze and Rayna's wedding, helps rebuild and defend Flendon, and becomes Froma's emotional anchor after her cursed bow traumatizes her. Fixteen dies in the final war when he intercepts an explosive guided arrow meant for Froma.
Biography
Dame's right hand and the Dark Magus secret
Fixteen grows up beside Dame, attends a Pagna academy with him, and becomes the person the troublesome Neverfall heir trusts most. Their closeness does not make Fixteen unquestioning. When Dame returns from the portal obsessed with Raze's unknown power, Fixteen urges him to report to the clan master and worries that giving forbidden techniques to an outsider could lead to execution. He understands the scale of the discovery before Dame understands its dangers, but follows because loyalty to his friend outweighs confidence in the plan. (Chapters 18, 37–39)
That loyalty places Fixteen inside Dame's most treasonous secrets. He warns Raze not to expose magic in Pagna, tracks Light Faction movement through portal signs, and recognizes that concealing a human from another world could justify punishment by Neverfall's Elders. During Dame's forced mission against Beatrix Highborn, Fixteen helps distribute Raze's pills and joins the battle with Qi-powered fist techniques. He is not strong enough to defeat Beatrix, but remains one of the few warriors willing to accompany a young master widely expected to fail. (Chapters 94–115)
Fixteen also supplies the continuity Dame's improvisation lacks. He locates him in Repton, reports information that draws him back before Belil, and keeps track of the political consequences created by portals, the Crimson Crane, and the Dark Magus. Dame sometimes blames him when a deception becomes visible, but continues relying on his judgment and contacts. Their relationship settles into a durable division: Dame makes hazardous bargains, while Fixteen tries to keep the people, money, and secrets around those bargains intact. (Chapters 116–193, 223–233)
Broker of the Dark Magus pills
As demand for Raze's marked Qi pills grows, Fixteen becomes the business end of the operation. He works with Alba's Crimson Crane, receives batches and power stones, manages trusted sellers, and watches competitors fail to reproduce the products. His goal is not only personal profit. The network gives Dame independence from Neverfall, funds allies, and preserves a controlled advantage by selling pills rather than Raze's strongest enchanted weapons. (Chapters 270–298, 417)
Raze increasingly treats Fixteen as a reliable intermediary. Fixteen delivers sale proceeds, challenges decisions that undervalue their stock, acquires ingredients, and can serve as the public auction member while Raze's identity stays concealed. Rayna similarly uses him as a contact when arranging the future wedding. This position gives Fixteen influence without making him the alchemist: Raze creates the exceptional pills, while Fixteen prices, stores, purchases, transports, and sells them. (Chapters 280–282, 326–351, 453–462)
The work also pulls Fixteen away from a simple Neverfall retainer's role. He continues to identify himself through loyalty to Dame, yet the daily operation depends on Crimson Crane routes and Raze's products rather than orders from the Abyssal Pinnacle. By the time the Dark Magus is publicly consequential, Fixteen is one of the few people who can connect Neverfall, wandering warriors, merchants, and an anonymous magical supplier without exposing the fragile arrangement. (Chapters 326–462)
Wedding duty and Flendon's first defense
Rayna assigns Fixteen to prepare Raze for the wedding because he already knows both the man and the secret identity behind the Dark Magus. Fixteen delivers Rayna's clothing and mask, guides Raze through Neverfall etiquette, and intervenes when Han and Fing threaten to turn the escort into a fight. He cannot match the brothers' oppressive Qi, but his invocation of Belil's judgment gives Raze a reason not to answer provocation with force. Practical mediation keeps the political ceremony intact where personal pride could have destroyed it. (Chapters 568–571)
After Belil grants the couple land, Fixteen accompanies them toward Flendon and helps prepare supplies rather than returning to an ordinary clan post. When the Behemoth attack begins, he argues that frightened citizens should not be forced to fight a faction army. On the rooftops he duels with sword and Qi, acknowledges that he is only an initial-stage warrior, and uses one of Raze's green pills to overcome a stronger opponent. His internal choice is explicit: even without knowing Dame's location, he remains to help the Dark Magus because that is how he can honor his promise to Dame. (Chapters 576–589)
Fixteen survives the battle and immediately returns to logistics. He preserves pills for emergencies, tracks incoming communications, and stays with the Crimson Crane as Flendon absorbs the consequences of defeating a Behemoth pillar force. The experience establishes the pattern that defines his later role: he is not the coalition's strongest fighter, but he keeps its limited resources available and fights when the system he maintains reaches the battlefield. (Chapters 581–611)
Rebuilding Flendon and caring for Froma
Flendon's reconstruction gives Fixteen a civic use for the trade network. He raises pill prices after their reputation improves, rejects weapon commissions that would reveal Raze's advantage, records donated supplies, and directs the resulting money toward food and building materials. The choices can look miserly, but their consequence is material recovery for a ruined town. He develops from Dame's private agent into an administrator whose procurement decisions affect residents, guards, and the whole Crimson Crane. (Chapters 603–611)
During Sha Mo's later siege, Fixteen buys back Dark Magus pills from customers and distributes them to Flendon's outnumbered defenders. He fights on the wall and tries to intercept a pillar's Qi-loaded arrow, but the shot overwhelms him and demonstrates the limit of his initial-stage cultivation. When Dame returns in a hybrid body, Fixteen responds with admiration rather than fear, seeing the friend who once chased money now protect people. His continued defense rests on the person Dame has become, not merely the rank Dame was born with. (Chapters 837–879)
The siege also changes Fixteen's relationship with Froma. He asks her to use the cursed bow despite knowing she fears its returned pain, then catches and embraces her when the resulting suffering makes her collapse. Afterward he looks after her body, lets her hide behind him when she cannot face Alba, and becomes the person others seek for news of her condition. His request helps save Flendon but leaves him responsible for supporting the person who paid its worst psychological cost. (Chapters 879–921)
Coalition quartermaster and chosen future
Fixteen remains part of Flendon's decision-making as the conflicts expand. He attends the town-hall war council, manages instructions for replacing expended power stones, and volunteers as the test subject for a new teleporter. The apparently mundane work reduces Raze's need to supervise every supply crate and movement. Even Anna jokes that Raze's strict inventory note sounds like Fixteen, reflecting how completely his habits have become embedded in the coalition's infrastructure. (Chapters 1014, 1071–1082)
He also carries out tasks that require discretion rather than commerce. Fixteen and Beatrix direct Aurora toward Safa, he accompanies Raze and Dame through the gathering at Belil's funeral, and he enters the war coalition beside the Crimson Crane. His position is never formally elevated to clan leadership, but repeated inclusion among key participants demonstrates trust earned through long service. He remains bounded by ordinary warrior strength and depends on the coalition's specialists in battles against Deleters and Grand-Magus-scale powers. (Chapters 1116–1155, 1191–1216)
After the Pagna war, Fixteen and Froma visit Raze together and discuss leaving frontline life. Froma's curse has made combat unbearable, and they consider living together if she retires from the Crane. Raze cannot remove the trauma, but gives her pills to soften its recurrence. The conversation reveals that Fixteen's care has become a chosen personal future, not merely guilt from asking her to fire at Flendon. That future remains unrealized when the final war calls Pagna's alliance into Alterian. (Chapter 1274)
The final war and sacrifice for Froma
Fixteen crosses into Noble Land with the Pagna reinforcements and stays close to Froma as she once again uses the bow. He reassures her that a full army now shares the burden and that she does not need to carry every kill herself. The narration identifies him as her anchor: the steady presence that makes the curse's returned suffering bearable enough for her to keep fighting. His role in the battle is therefore protective before it becomes sacrificial. (Chapter 1722)
When Idore redirects a guided explosive arrow toward Froma, Fixteen places himself in its path. The projectile tears away the lower half of his body, yet he remains conscious long enough to confirm she is safe. He explains that the same impulse that kept him beside Dame made him reach for her, then calls the choice selfish because helping satisfies something in himself. Froma rejects that description, holds him, and kisses him as his breathing ends. (Chapter 1737)
Fixteen's death destroys the future they had discussed and removes the support that had helped Froma withstand her bow. Grief initially drives her toward indiscriminate revenge, while the Crimson Crane recognizes the need to protect her as she returns to the fight. His latest state is unambiguous: the corpus describes his final breath and subsequently refers to his loss as a pain deeper than the curse. The right-hand man dies as he lived, absorbing the consequence of another person's dangerous choice. (Chapters 1737–1738)
Appearance and personality
Fixteen is approximately Dame's age and has known him since childhood, but the corpus does not provide a stable description of his hair, eyes, build, or usual clothing. His presentation is instead defined through proximity and conduct: he stands at Dame's side in Neverfall, carries sale money and supplies, and later wears a sword while defending Flendon. Claims about more specific physical traits would exceed the supplied evidence. (Chapters 18, 110, 453, 589)
He is cautious, commercially sharp, and willing to criticize people he serves. Fixteen recognizes the treason risk in Dame's secrets, objects when Raze or Dame creates avoidable trouble, and pushes prices high enough to make allies call him cheap. The same pragmatism has a protective purpose: he preserves emergency pills, refuses undervalued weapon requests, and tries to prevent civilians from being conscripted into a hopeless defense. His jokes and complaints coexist with consistent follow-through. (Chapters 18, 96, 453, 586–603, 1073)
His defining trait is loyalty chosen rather than imposed by clan status. Fixteen stays with the disgraced young master, accepts Raze's coalition as the best way to help him, and cares for Froma after helping place an unbearable burden on her. He describes his final sacrifice as selfish impulse, but the record shows a repeated readiness to move toward other people's danger, even when he knows his own cultivation is insufficient. (Chapters 110, 589, 858–921, 1274, 1722–1737)
Magic, cultivation, and abilities
Initial-stage Qi cultivation
Fixteen is an initial-stage Pagna warrior trained in Neverfall's harsh environment. He channels Qi through fist techniques, movement, and a sword, can sense heavy Qi concentrated in incoming attacks, and has the portal knowledge expected of an experienced clan retainer. Representative uses include punching down a Light Faction warrior, dueling Behemoth soldiers on rooftops, and leaping from Flendon's wall to intercept a Qi-charged arrow. The corpus does not assign him a precise stage beyond the initial range. (Chapters 96–113, 571, 589, 858)
His limits are repeatedly visible. Beatrix deflects the combined Qi techniques of Fixteen and Dame's other retainers, Neverfall's stronger heirs must slow their travel pace for him, and a Behemoth pillar's arrow overwhelms his attempted block. He supplements his speed with a Dark Magus pill during the first Flendon battle, but that is temporary item assistance rather than permanent progression. By the final war he can kill ordinary mages in close fighting, yet no source establishes a breakthrough to middle stage. (Chapters 112, 569–571, 589, 858, 1722)
Sword, fist, and battlefield awareness
Fixteen alternates between unarmed strikes and a side sword. His demonstrated sword work consists of evasion, parrying, Qi clashes, and direct cuts rather than a named Neverfall art; his fist attacks similarly use general Qi reinforcement. He reads footprints and portal conditions, recognizes the energy concentrated in an incoming projectile, and surveys a battlefield to identify where stronger allies are failing. These skills make him a competent guard and defender without elevating him to the specialists around him. (Chapters 97, 112–113, 589, 858)
Against enemies at his own level, disciplined timing and temporary pill reinforcement let him win. Against pillars, Grand Magi, or guided enchanted attacks, awareness does not supply enough output to defend himself or others safely. His final interception of Idore's arrow is therefore not evidence of a new defensive power: he physically takes the attack and dies from the explosion. His latest demonstrated combat state remains that of a brave but comparatively ordinary Qi warrior. (Chapters 589, 858, 1722, 1737)
Commerce, procurement, and coordination
Fixteen's most consequential expertise is non-magical logistics. He establishes trusted seller groups, prices scarce pills, buys stock back before emergencies, records donations, rejects strategically harmful commissions, obtains materials, and transfers proceeds to Raze. He also maintains contacts across Neverfall, the Crimson Crane, auctions, and Flendon. These operations turn magical products into reconstruction funds and keep power stones available for crafting and transport. (Chapters 270–298, 417, 453–462, 581–603, 837)
He does not create the exceptional pills he sells. Raze provides the recipes and products, while Fixteen supplies market judgment and distribution. The distinction matters because later characters casually call him an alchemist or associate him with the pill business, but the demonstrated process assigns manufacture to the Dark Magus. By his latest logistical activity, Fixteen is a coalition quartermaster and trusted test subject rather than an independently established magical crafter. (Chapters 280–298, 453, 603, 1071–1082)
Relationships
-
Dame: Fixteen is Dame's childhood friend, academy companion, confidant, and right-hand man. He challenges reckless decisions but follows through on them, keeps the Dark Magus secret, and redirects his loyalty toward Raze's coalition when Dame is absent. His last explanation connects saving Froma with the same impulse that kept him helping Dame. (Chapters 18–116, 183–193, 589, 688, 879, 1737)
-
Raze Cromwell: Fixteen begins as a cautious witness to Raze's foreign power and becomes his commercial representative, purchaser, wedding guide, inventory manager, and coalition ally. Their trust is practical rather than intimate, but Raze depends on Fixteen to turn private creations into a sustainable network without revealing his identity. (Chapters 37–96, 270–462, 568–603, 1071–1082)
-
Froma: Fixteen first becomes responsible for Froma after asking her to use a bow whose curse returns the pain she causes. He cares for her during recovery, becomes the person behind whom she feels safe, and plans a life with her away from frontline combat. In Noble Land he dies intercepting Idore's arrow for her, and her grief confirms how central his support had become. (Chapters 879–921, 1274, 1722–1738)
-
Rayna: Rayna trusts Fixteen with contact between Neverfall and Raze, the secrecy of the Dark Magus identity, and practical wedding arrangements. He later supports the Flendon administration built around her land and alliance, remaining a bridge to the clan family without acting as her unquestioning servant. (Chapters 223–233, 346–351, 568–577, 603)
-
Alba and the Crimson Crane: Fixteen works with Alba's clan to sell pills, gather materials, rebuild Flendon, and fight faction wars. The relationship moves from business cooperation to shared family-like responsibility, especially when Alba recognizes that Froma should not be forced to bear the bow alone. (Chapters 116, 417, 581–611, 879–921, 1191, 1738)
Items
-
Side sword: Fixteen carries a conventional sword and channels Qi through it in rooftop fights and defensive actions. It lets him defeat ordinary warriors and attempt to intercept projectiles, but no name, grade, unique enchantment, or final custody is established. (Chapters 589, 858)
-
Dark Magus pills: Fixteen stores and distributes Raze's marked pills, preserves emergency stock, buys sold batches back before the siege, and consumes a green pill for a temporary speed increase in combat. The pills are Raze's creations rather than Fixteen's; his demonstrated expertise is their storage, pricing, procurement, and sale. (Chapters 110, 280–298, 581–589, 603, 837)
