Charlotte

Charlotte is an Alterian mage and field agent who investigates portal anomalies in Pagna with Himmy before becoming one of Raze Cromwell's earliest Alter allies. Her empathy repeatedly moderates Alter procedure, and after Himmy's death she helps the anti-Alter coalition, survives a Rylon ritual intended to use her as a vessel, and applies her formation knowledge to interbase teleportation and displaced-otherworlder support.

Biography

Portal investigator and early trust

Charlotte enters Pagna as Himmy's more openly expressive partner, investigating deaths, portal behavior, and traces of magic. She explains that large mana releases can provoke nearby portals and recognizes that Raze combines spellcraft with a Pagna body in ways Alterian experiments failed to reproduce safely. Rather than expose him immediately, she develops rapport and helps protect uninvolved children during the temple conflict. (Chapters 36–69 and 145–156)

Her technical curiosity becomes alliance as she and Himmy continue field missions. Charlotte supplies magical support, scanners, and theory while Raze repeatedly saves or teaches the squad. She is not a frontline Pagna warrior and admits the limits of her experience, but chooses to help even when procedure suggests withdrawal. By the Lethal Bite operation, admiration for Raze and concern for teammates have become explicit. (Chapters 156–237 and 454–544)

Himmy's death and the Rylon vessel ritual

Himmy's death leaves Charlotte separated from the institutional identity that brought her to Pagna. She survives amid Alter's fractures and becomes a target in the trail connecting Rylon, sacrificial magic, and otherworld travel. Captors drain her mana, bind her inside a formation, and intend a Divine being to enter or use her body; she has no voluntary control over activation and believes she is about to die. When the circle activates, the summoned being resists being pulled into Charlotte. Safa enters to help, and the energy changes destination, entering Safa instead. Charlotte therefore survives the ritual but is not successfully possessed, does not gain the being's powers, and remains severely drained afterward. Calling the event a “transfer” reflects her interpretation of the formation, not proof that a completed possession occurred in her body. (Chapters 963–975 and 1014)

Teleporters and otherworlder refuge

After recovery, Charlotte rejoins Raze's allies and helps construct teleportation infrastructure between Flendon and the Dark Faction academy. As a three-star mage she cannot match Raze's raw power, but she understands circles well enough to implement his designs with limited supervision. This makes her valuable through applied theory rather than battlefield escalation. (Chapters 1014–1078)

Charlotte later rescues Aurora from a dangerous Pagna encounter, houses her, and explains the interworld truth surrounding Raze while withholding details she judges unnecessary. Her compassion becomes a defined coalition role: she helps arrivals who no longer have Alter's protection understand their circumstances without treating them as specimens or resources. Her latest established status is alive within that support network. (Chapters 1104–1120)

Appearance and personality

Charlotte is expressive, practical, and more openly empathetic than many Alter agents. She complains, jokes, blushes, and voices fear, but still moves toward endangered teammates. Her concern for Raze and Anna often helps an operational group behave like people rather than interchangeable assets. (Chapters 36, 56, 156, 518, and 538)

Himmy's death and the failed ritual leave her shaken without erasing her competence. She cries after rescue and needs healing, then turns the experience into care for Aurora and useful infrastructure. (Chapters 963–975 and 1078–1120)

Magic, cultivation, and abilities

Three-star Alterian magic

Charlotte is a three-star mage trained by Alter. She uses mana for wind and fire support, extraction or manipulation at close range, detection, and ranged defense. She can combine Gust with Ember under Raze's guidance and remove a projectile from his body, but large spells exhaust her and openly casting in Pagna risks exposure or portal instability. Formation and portal theory

Her education lets her interpret magic circles and implement Raze's teleporter design. The ritual at Rylon is not her ability: she is its bound, drained target. She neither activates it willingly nor retains the Divine being, while Safa becomes the actual recipient when the transfer changes course. (Chapters 963–975 and 1078)
