Orix Dragonic
Orix Dragonic, originally the mercenary Venos Allen, is the founder of the Dragonic family and a celebrated defender of Kiehl. His public claim to be a half-dragon conceals the Dragonheart that transformed him and supplied the vast mana behind his sword. (Chapters 164 and 174–177)
Biography
The Hunt and the Holy Empire
Venos Allen gains a dead dragon's power after finding a Dragonheart in an underground tomb, changes his name to Orix Dragonic, and presents himself as the dragon Pallasquez's half-human son. He wins fame by destroying much of a demonic-beast army at Kiehl's border, then remains in Kiehl as commander of the White Dragon Knights and protector of Emperor Straut I rather than joining the heroes in Helmuth. That decision allows him to found a prestigious knightly house whose descendants refine his crude but powerful sword into the Empty Sword. Three centuries later, Alchester's perfected technique has surpassed its founder's version, while Orix's fabricated ancestry remains a central family legend. (Chapters 164, 174–177, 238, and 510)
Appearance and personality
After taking in the Dragonheart, Orix has red hair and blue eyes and looks different enough that Hamel does not immediately recognize his former mercenary senior. The many statues and portraits at the Dragonic estate depict him as more handsome than Eugene remembers, so their idealized details are not reliable evidence for his exact build or features. (Chapters 164 and 174)
Orix is ambitious, boastful, image-conscious, and risk-averse. He invents a draconic lineage, imitates the heroic presentation associated with Vermouth, and prefers status and manageable border battles in Kiehl to the constant danger of Helmuth. Nevertheless, he does defend the empire successfully and establishes a line of knights committed to imperial service. (Chapters 164, 174, and 238)
Abilities and powers
Absorbing Pallasquez's Dragonheart gives Orix a huge mana reserve and lets him project sword-force tens of meters long—later family tradition describes it as tall as a mountain peak and wide as a castle wall. He uses only one sword and leaves the foundation that becomes the Dragonic Empty Sword. His output exceeds his technical refinement: Eugene remembers his mana use as crude, and judges Alchester's developed Empty Sword capable of defeating him quickly. His descendants do not inherit dragon blood or the Dragonheart's reservoir. (Chapters 164, 175–177, and 510)
Relationships
- Alchester Dragonic: Alchester is Orix's descendant and successor as head of House Dragonic. He reveres Orix, develops the family sword, and eventually surpasses the founder without realizing how crude Orix's technique was. (Chapters 164, 174–176, 238, and 510)
- Ariartelle: Orix consumes the Dragonheart of Ariartelle's father, Pallasquez, then falsely claims Pallasquez as his dragon parent. Ariartelle observes the resulting family but does not treat the lie as a personal insult demanding revenge. (Chapter 177)
- Eugene Lionheart: As Hamel, Eugene knew Orix as the mercenary Venos and forced him to confess the source of his sudden power. In the present, Eugene privately dismantles Orix's myth while encouraging Alchester to move beyond it. (Chapters 164 and 510)
- Leo Dragonic: Leo is Orix's descendant and admires the founder, although the Dragon Fear observed around Leo cannot come from inherited Orix blood because Orix was not truly a half-dragon. (Chapters 175–177)
