Ariartelle

Ariartelle is a Red Dragon left awake to maintain the Cradle where the surviving dragons hibernate. She watches over the Dragonic family, develops the Draconic tracking magic that helps Eugene find Raizakia, frees Raimira from her father's seal, and supplies relics to the anti-Helmuth alliance without abandoning her oath-bound duty. (Chapters 176–180, 296, 322–336, 466, 516, and 617)

Biography

The Hunt and the Holy Empire

Ariartelle encounters Eugene at the Dragonic estate and initially rejects his claim to be Hamel, but the revelation of Raizakia's betrayal wins her cooperation. She devises a Draconic method to trace a target beyond normal spatial coordinates, engraves it into Akasha, and modernizes the staff's mana circulation. Her isolation is not leisure: as the only dragon still awake, she must purify the Cradle, treat the sleepers' wounds, and supply mana. That promise prevents her from risking direct war, yet she removes Raimira's seal, assists strategic magic, opens the Dragons' Treasury for allied heroes, and survives to represent her race after Destruction's defeat. (Chapters 176–180, 296, 322–336, 466, 516, and 617)

Appearance and personality

Ariartelle normally appears as a red-haired young woman; her full draconic appearance is not described in comparable detail in the supplied chapters. Proud and quick to release Dragon Fear when angered, she also enjoys books, warm drinks, wine, and secretly observing generations of the Dragonic family. Praise from Sienna readily softens her dignity, while her long solitude leaves her unusually attached to the short human lives she watches. (Chapters 176–178, 466, and 617)

Abilities and powers

As a dragon, Ariartelle possesses Dragon Fear, Draconic Incantations, polymorph, a Dragon Heart, and high natural magical aptitude. She can design a tracking spell that follows a blood-linked target through the gap between dimensions, enchant artifacts through a connection to her Dragon Heart, interfere with Raizakia's Draconic seal after his death, and maintain the specialized environment of the Cradle. (Chapters 176–180, 296, 322–336, and 466)

Her power has institutional limits as well as combat limits. Ariartelle is mostly self-taught in modern Circle Magic and cannot advise Sienna on every ancient formula. More importantly, injury or death could endanger the hibernating dragons, so her oath prevents her from entering battles where she might be killed. She contributes expertise and treasures instead of joining the front line. (Chapters 466, 516, and 617)

Relationships

  • Eugene Lionheart: Ariartelle verifies Eugene's identity, improves Akasha, and gives him the means to trace Raizakia. Their exchanges mix mutual usefulness with frequent irritation. (Chapters 176–180 and 296)
  • Raimira: Ariartelle initially condemns Raizakia's hatchling by association, then recognizes Raimira as an ordinary dragon victimized by a seal. She respects Raimira's choice to stay with Eugene and restores her suppressed power. (Chapters 322–336)
  • Alchester Dragonic: Ariartelle watches over the Dragonic line because Orix received power from her father. Concern for Alchester motivates her wartime appearance and gift of a relic sword. (Chapters 176–177 and 466)
