Levin

Levin is the Spirit King of Lightning and one of the Spirit Kings contracted to Melkith El-Hayah. He advises his contractor, lends her lightning in battle, and displays a cautious concern for bystanders that contrasts with Melkith's theatrical impulsiveness. (Chapters 52, 129–130, 419, and 436)

Nahama, Samar, and Sienna's Legacy

Levin first speaks while Melkith is unsuccessfully courting Tempest, relaying Tempest's refusal and urging her to show some restraint. Years later, he and Yhanos identify the World Trees on the Lionheart estate and observe Eugene's attempt to form a lightning-spirit contract. Levin refuses to arrange an unfair shortcut, then recognizes that the World Tree's primal spirits have instead become an unprecedented new spirit within Eugene—one even Levin cannot control. He remains at Melkith's side afterward, questioning her ethics during the Nahama dungeon campaign and contributing his lightning when she combines three Spirit Kings against Harpeuron. Appearance and personality

Levin normally communicates as a voice in Melkith's mind or through crackling lightning; the corpus supplies no stable humanoid face, clothing, age, or build. His manifestation is therefore better described by its electrical presence than by an unsupported physical portrait. (Chapters 52, 129, 419, and 436)

He is restrained, observant, fair-minded, and protective. Levin rejects Melkith's attempt to favor Eugene in a contract, notices magical phenomena that surprise even his contractor, and opposes starting a fight in a resort city because too many civilians are nearby. His dry reactions also make him a frequent counterweight to Melkith's eccentricity. (Chapters 52, 129, 419, and 436)

Abilities and powers

As the Spirit King of Lightning, Levin can communicate telepathically with his contractor, perceive spirits and magical disturbances through her, wrap her body in lightning for rapid movement, and call down numerous bolts. His power can be combined with Yhanos's earth and Ifrit's fire through Melkith's Spirit Fusion. The corpus also establishes a limit: Levin cannot interfere with the unprecedented spirit-lightning Eugene creates from World Tree spirits. (Chapters 129–130 and 436)

Relationships

• Melkith El-Hayah: Levin is Melkith's contracted Spirit King, counselor, and source of lightning. He repeatedly tempers her excesses but still supports her movement and combat techniques. (Chapters 52, 129, 419, and 436)
• Tempest: Levin relays Tempest's refusal to contract with Melkith and appears familiar enough with him to act as an intermediary. (Chapter 52)
• Eugene Lionheart: Levin initially insists that Eugene earn any spirit contract fairly, then watches him create a new kind of spirit that falls outside Levin's authority and known precedent. (Chapters 129–130)
• Ifrit and Yhanos: Levin fights alongside Melkith's other contracted Spirit Kings, combining lightning with fire and earth through Spirit Fusion. (Chapter 436)
