Hemoria

Hemoria is a high-ranking Maleficarum inquisitor known as the Guillotine and a disciple of Atarax. Her specialized artificial body, Blood Magic, and Word Arts make her a dangerous fighter before defeat and captivity force her into service under darker masters. (Chapter 198)

Biography

The Hunt and the Holy Empire

Hemoria first confronts Eugene Lionheart as Atarax's silent, fervent disciple and later fights him during the crisis in Yuras, where he severs her limbs and suppresses her magic. Amelia Merwin finds the surviving inquisitor, learns that she is an artificial human created through black magic, and subjects her to prolonged enslavement and torture. Vampire blood from Alphiero Lasat further alters Hemoria and binds her within a blood hierarchy, but Alphiero's death eventually loosens that control. Hemoria then betrays Amelia to Sienna Merdein in exchange for survival. The church spares her under a permanent tracking curse and a prohibition against human blood or further crime; after hiding on Ravesta, she is captured and remains imprisoned in Yuras after the final war. (Chapter 616)

Appearance and personality

Hemoria is pale and initially wears a short straight bob, a black metal mouth mask, black gloves, a red robe over a black priest's uniform, and a black shako. Crimson eyes and artificially sharpened cursed fangs add to her severe appearance. She communicates with signs because of a vow of silence, initially displaying fierce devotion and hostility; years of abuse leave her driven chiefly by survival and hatred of her captor. Abilities and powers

Hemoria's body is an artificial chimera optimized for Blood Magic and Word Arts. Inscribed words on her cheeks support her Word Arts, while her blood-based powers let her draw blood from the dead and dying to survive and restore severe injuries. Vampire blood strengthens and subordinates her, but her partial transformation does not require regular blood intake or impose the normal vampire weakness to sunlight. Suppression of her magic and physical restraint can still neutralize her. (Chapter 512)

• Atarax: Atarax is Hemoria's master and the source used in the black-magic process that created her. (Chapter 416)
• Amelia Merwin: Amelia captures, tortures, and enslaves Hemoria until Hemoria ultimately betrays her. (Chapter 477)
• Alphiero Lasat: Alphiero gives Hemoria vampire blood, strengthening her while placing her beneath him in a blood hierarchy. (Chapter 416)
• Eugene Lionheart: Hemoria first treats Eugene as an enemy; his defeat of her begins the chain of events that ends her career as an inquisitor. (Chapter 198)
