Amelia Merwin

Amelia Merwin is Nahama's foremost black wizard, a contractor of the Demon King of Incarceration, and a necromancer capable of maintaining an army of undead. Her pursuit of survival and magical supremacy drives her to manufacture servants, recruit demons, and help turn Nahama's capital into the center of a mass-sacrifice ritual. Biography

Raguyaran and Giabella City

After Sienna Merdein returns, Amelia withdraws into Ravesta in the Raguyaran region rather than risk a direct confrontation. She continues to use Hemoria, the chimera she had taken from the wreckage of a black-magic cult and abused into obedience, as an intermediary. From a vampire's reception, Hemoria presents Amelia's proposal to dozens of contracted demons: if they provoke war in Nahama and supply the necessary deaths, Amelia will reproduce a ritual that can elevate demons toward the rank of Demon King. The arrangement converts Amelia's fear of Sienna and her need for sacrifices into a coalition built around a manufactured war. (Chapters 415–416 and 423)

The changing balance in Helmuth further destabilizes Amelia's position. Eugene Lionheart makes his presence in Giabella City public while preparing a justification for intervention in Nahama, and Amelia responds by pressing high-ranking demons toward open conflict rather than remaining hidden. At the same time, Hamel's Death Knight—now transformed into the Specter—returns with power Amelia cannot control. He rejects the false memories she planted in him, humiliates her, and leaves her terrified that a creation she once treated as property can kill her at will. (Chapters 433, 440, and 447–450)

Amelia ultimately moves to Hauria and becomes the effective master of the imperial palace alongside the other Dungeon Masters. She betrays the sultan, fills the capital with black wizards, demons, and undead, and prepares a ritual fueled by the casualties of war, although the number of sacrifices available is lower than planned. When the liberation force breaks into the city, her confidence collapses with her army. Hemoria turns against her and delivers her to Sienna; Amelia tries to recover enough dark power to retaliate, but Sienna erases the spell and condemns her conscious mind to repeated deaths while deliberately keeping her body alive. Appearance and personality

Amelia has brown skin, long dark hair that falls down her back, and purple eyes. A white veil covers her mouth, while large gold earrings frame her face. Her composed presentation accompanies an intimidating magical presence, but the later confrontation with the Specter exposes visible panic and humiliation beneath that practiced authority. She is proud, cruel, and intensely protective of her own life. Amelia treats subordinates as instruments: she subjects Hemoria to prolonged abuse, constructs a false identity for the Death Knight, and bargains with demons through the promise of power purchased by other people's deaths. Her claims that she treated the Specter well reveal a self-serving definition of kindness, and her final response to defeat is not remorse but an immediate attempt to murder Hemoria. Abilities and powers

Amelia is a Black Archwizard whose reputation predates her demonic contract. She specializes in necromancy, dark-magic rituals, and the manipulation of altered or constructed beings. Her magical scale is exceptional among human black wizards, but it depends on controlled access to demonic power, suitable sacrifices, and servants who remain subject to her commands. Contracted dark power

Her contract with the Demon King of Incarceration allows her to draw an enormous quantity of mana rather than limiting her to a fixed allotment. That apparent freedom carries a physical constraint: Amelia must regulate how much power enters her at once because the full flow could destroy her human vessel. The contract also claims her soul after death, making the strength she borrows inseparable from Incarceration's ultimate ownership. (Chapter 237)

Necromancy and constructed undead

Amelia can raise and command undead on an army scale and is described by Balzac Ludbeth as the most masterful necromancer in history. Her most consequential creation comes from violating Hamel's tomb: she uses the corpse to build a Death Knight, installs a different soul, and fabricates memories and resentment meant to keep it useful. That control is not absolute. Once the Death Knight becomes the Specter through an outside source of dark power, he recognizes the implanted past as false and breaks away from her authority. (Chapters 64–70, 440, and 464–469)

Ritual magic and coercive control

Amelia understands the sacrificial ritual used to transform accumulated dark power into a new Demon King and can communicate the method through Hemoria to contracted demons. The process requires widespread death, a location outside Helmuth where Incarceration's restrictions do not prevent it, and enough cooperating vessels to gather power. Her Hauria plan therefore relies on engineering a war rather than winning by ordinary military force, and the shortfall in sacrifices weakens the premise on which she faces the invading alliance. Relationships

• Hemoria: Amelia retrieves Hemoria after the cult that made her is destroyed, but the relationship is ownership rather than rescue. Years of physical and psychological abuse leave Hemoria waiting for a chance to defect; she finally betrays Amelia in Hauria and helps place her before Sienna. (Chapters 416 and 477)
• Hamel's Death Knight: Amelia creates the Death Knight from Hamel's corpse, gives it another soul, and manipulates its memories to cultivate hatred. After becoming the Specter, he repudiates those memories and her control, reversing their power dynamic so completely that Amelia fears provoking him. (Chapters 64–70 and 440)
• Sienna Merdein: Sienna's return drives Amelia into hiding and becomes the central threat around which she reorganizes her plans. When they finally meet in defeated Hauria, Sienna stops Amelia's attempted retaliation and imprisons her consciousness in an ongoing punishment without granting her death. (Chapters 415 and 477–478)
• Eugene Lionheart: Amelia's desecration of Hamel's tomb and control of Nahama place her in direct opposition to Eugene. His preparations around Giabella City help force Nahama's conspiracy into the open, and the campaign he leads destroys the political and military base on which her ritual depends. • Noir Giabella: Amelia and Noir openly despise one another despite both serving Incarceration. Their hostility offers Amelia no protection in Helmuth and reinforces her reliance on Nahama as the territory where she can pursue sacrificial schemes with greater freedom. (Chapters 237 and 433)
