Dominic Lionheart

Dominic Lionheart is Doynes Lionheart's grandson and the former captain of the Black Lions' First Division. Resentment that his lineage and work did not make him uniquely important leads him into the Pride conspiracy, an attempted assassination of Eugene, and Eward's sacrificial ritual at Black Lion Castle. (Chapters 76, 135–153, and 166)

Biography

The Hunt and the Holy Empire

Dominic outwardly performs the duties of a senior Black Lion, assessing Hector and Eward and approaching Eugene as a friendly captain. Privately, he has already hired Barang to kill Eugene and joined Hector and Eward in exploiting the collateral families' resentment. Dominic ambushes his grandfather, takes the Demon Spear, and helps assemble Cyan, Ciel, Gargith, Dezra, and Genia as sacrifices for the remnants of the Demon Kings. He fights Eugene with spear techniques and demonic regeneration, but Eugene overwhelms the conspiracy; Dominic dies during the failed ritual, and the public account later identifies him and Eward as the planners who perished. His rebellion produces no redemption, though his death helps force the clan to confront the grievances its traditions cultivated. (Chapters 135–153 and 166)

Appearance and personality

The corpus does not give Dominic a stable hair, eye, or build description before the rebellion. During his demonic transformation, scales cover his body and rapidly fill otherwise fatal wounds, including crushed arms and a hole through his torso. This altered form is a combat condition produced by corrupted power, not evidence of his ordinary appearance. (Chapters 144–146)

Dominic is capable, patient, resentful, and convinced that exceptional effort should guarantee exceptional recognition. The Black Lions' failure to treat him as special corrodes his earlier motivation into envy of the main family. He can appraise talent and coordinate a conspiracy, but his pride makes manipulation and mass sacrifice acceptable, including violence against his own grandfather and younger relatives. (Chapters 138, 145, and 153)

Abilities and powers

As First Division captain, Dominic is an accomplished martial artist able to wield both the Annihilation Hammer Jigollath and Demon Spear Luentos. With Luentos he mixes mana and demonic energy for defense, collapses terrain with a thrust, and invokes Spear Forest to raise dark thorns from a shadowed area. After corruption, scales regenerate catastrophic injuries and his attacks become more precise. These powers do not make him invulnerable: the Holy Sword resists the spear's darkness, the Moonlight Sword erases its defenses, and Eugene defeats him despite Hector's support. (Chapters 135 and 143–147)

Relationships

  • Doynes Lionheart: Doynes is Dominic's grandfather and a source of the prestigious identity Dominic believes should distinguish him. Dominic betrays and stabs him to take Luentos; Doynes survives only long enough to learn of Dominic's death and wishes that his grandson had lived long enough to regret the choice. (Chapters 135, 143, and 148–149)
  • Eward Lionheart: Dominic approaches Eward and helps turn his grievance into a ritual using the Demon King remnants. They cooperate in abducting sacrifices and both die when Eugene breaks the scheme. (Chapters 143–153 and 166)
  • Hector Lionheart: Hector is Dominic's fellow conspirator and combat partner. Dominic values his talent and discusses recruiting him, then fights Eugene beside him, but Hector escapes while Dominic dies. (Chapters 138 and 143–147)
  • Eugene Lionheart: Dominic first tries to remove Eugene through Barang, then faces him directly after the assassination fails. Eugene exposes the scale of Dominic's resentment and kills him while saving the intended sacrifices. (Chapters 144–148)
