Ciel Lionheart

Ciel Lionheart is a main-family knight whose childhood rivalry with Eugene Lionheart develops into loyalty, love, and an independent martial career. A pupil of Carmen Lionheart and wielder of Javel, she becomes the youngest Black Lion and an undefeated gladiator in Shimuin before an injury awakens two Demoneyes that make her a crucial transporter and restrainer in the wars against the Demon Kings. Biography

Main-Family Rival and Knight

Ciel and her fraternal twin, Cyan Lionheart, were born to Gilead Lionheart and Ancilla Caines, the favored second wife of the Lionheart main family. Ancilla wanted one of her children to become Patriarch and subjected both twins to mana training, weapons practice, strict lessons, and punishment from early childhood. At thirteen, Ciel was consequently talented and perceptive but also proud, mischievous, and accustomed to manipulating servants. She first approached the newly arrived Eugene as a rural relative to tease, only to become fascinated when he defeated Cyan and overturned the hierarchy she had taken for granted. (Chapters 4–6 and 128)

Eugene's presence changed the twins from rivals into family without erasing Ciel's competitive streak. During the Bloodline Continuation Ceremony, she cooperated with Cyan through the labyrinth but saw Eugene distinguish himself beyond every direct-line heir. She continued training rather than pursuing the social life Ancilla sometimes wished they could share, left the main estate early for Black Lion Castle, and became Carmen's pupil. Ciel had no ambition to displace Cyan as future Patriarch; instead, she built a place of her own as the youngest Black Lion and inherited the Phantom Rain Sword Javel as her principal weapon. Ciel's attachment to Eugene grew alongside her ability. She followed his achievements, sought his acknowledgment, and wanted to stand beside him in danger rather than remain the child who merely chased his back. That desire sometimes produced reckless choices, including separating from Eugene during the Knight March, but it also exposed her to real field hardship and reinforced her refusal to be sheltered. Under Carmen, she developed disciplined swordsmanship, battle sense, and the stamina needed to function as a Black Lion rather than relying only on the prestige of her bloodline. Seeking experience outside the clan, Ciel spent a year in Shimuin and became the undefeated White Rose, one of the kingdom's Twelve Finest gladiators. She imposed a punishing daily training routine, won public popularity without accepting marriage proposals, and became a useful local contact when Eugene's group investigated Iris. Although she privately questioned whether her youth and reputation meant anything beside Eugene's strength, she answered that insecurity by training harder and joining the expedition against the Pirate Empress instead of withdrawing from it. Rejection, Resolve, and the Final War

A spar with Eugene forced Ciel's unspoken feelings into the open. After learning about his relationships with Sienna and the Saints, she confessed that she had loved him since they were thirteen and rejected his attempt to use his identity as Hamel's reincarnation to push her away. Eugene ultimately told her that, because he was both Eugene and Hamel, he could not return her feelings. Ciel broke down but refused to erase what she felt; with blunt comfort from Kristina and Anise, she decided to pursue love without letting rejection turn her into someone who could only cling or despair, then returned to training the next morning. (Chapters 342–347)

During the battle with Iris, Ciel was assigned to the reserve fleet despite wanting the front line. That position allowed her to catch Eugene when he fell and follow his consciousness into the void created by the Moonlight Sword. She helped pull him free, then lost her left eye while protecting him from Iris. The destructive factor in Lionheart blood, activated by Vermouth and combined with Iris's Darkness, transformed the ruined eye into the Demoneyes of Darkness and Immobility. Ciel said she would make the same choice again, treated the altered eye as a gift, and began the difficult work of mastering powers no human had previously possessed. The Demoneyes expanded Ciel's battlefield role but did not remove the gap between her and the strongest enemies. She could transport allies through shadows and briefly restrain even Demon-King-class targets, yet insufficient mana caused bleeding and dizziness, while Destruction's power reversed her Immobility link and damaged her Core. Rather than abandoning the abilities, she continued cultivating the White Flame Formula, was ordained as Eugene's Holy Knight, and learned to combine divine power with Darkness over continental distances. In the final war, she used that reach to deliver the Divine Army's command staff and summon Molon directly to Babel while continuing to fight with Javel outside the castle. Ciel remained on the battlefield through the campaigns against Incarceration and Destruction. She fought the demonic army, used Darkness repeatedly to carry Carmen and other Lionhearts across the Nur toward Destruction, and then joined the postwar reconnaissance that protected the border while Eugene recovered. Peace did not resolve her romantic pursuit, but neither did it define her entire future: she continued training, received guidance from the returned Vermouth, cared for the Lionheart household, and stood with her family at the inauguration of the new city and Dynas Academy. Appearance and personality

Ciel has silver hair and, originally, the characteristic golden eyes of the Lionheart bloodline. Her years of sword training give her an athletic, visibly conditioned build, and her beauty contributes to the White Rose title and public attention she receives in Shimuin. After the battle with Iris, her restored left eye is a duller golden color that becomes red when Immobility activates and manifests black currents when she uses Darkness; she initially feels self-conscious about the mismatch but refuses an eyepatch and later accepts it as part of herself. Playful, proud, and highly perceptive, Ciel often hides anxiety or pain behind teasing and a practiced smile. As a child, that talent made her manipulative and casually cruel; as an adult, it lets her read allies quickly, puncture Eugene's evasions, and preserve composure under public attention. She is stubborn enough to sustain both punishing training and an unreciprocated love, but her maturity is clearest when she accepts tactical assignments she dislikes, acknowledges the limits of her strength, and chooses the group's needs over proving herself. Ciel's affection is intense without being passive. She wants Eugene's attention and still intends to change his answer, yet she also challenges him, mocks his pretensions, protects his secrets, and judges him as the person she grew up with rather than as Hamel or Agaroth. Her relationships with Kristina and Anise evolve from romantic rivalry into intimacy and mutual support, while her continuing concern for parents, twin, teacher, and clan anchors her in a family life larger than that pursuit. Abilities and powers

Ciel's strength comes from three systems that eventually interact: the Lionheart White Flame Formula, martial instruction as a Black Lion, and two Demoneyes awakened in her damaged left eye. Eugene's ordination later adds divine power and strengthens the range of her Darkness. These powers make her an elite human knight and exceptional support combatant, but the corpus consistently distinguishes her from Eugene, Sienna, and Demon-King-class opponents; exertion, mana supply, organ development, and hostile power flowing back through a Demoneye remain meaningful limits. White Flame Formula and swordsmanship

Ciel began mana and weapons training as a small child and later practiced the White Flame Formula as a direct Lionheart. Its separated Stars generate the white mana that surrounds her like a lion's mane, enhancing her speed, strength, endurance, and sword techniques. Carmen refined her fundamentals and field judgment until Ciel became a Black Lion and declared that her pupil had reached the point where further progress required creating a personal martial style rather than merely receiving more instruction. Ciel fights primarily with the Phantom Rain Sword Javel, a sword whose blade breaks into hundreds of pieces so it can be wielded like a swift, cutting whip. She uses changes of reach, flowing footwork, feints, and sudden close combat to upset an opponent's rhythm, though Eugene's superior experience exposes how her attacks can still become predictable. By the final war, she can kill elite demonfolk while coordinating with Cyan and the Lionheart formations, but her strongest strategic contribution often comes from using her Demoneyes to position stronger allies. Demoneye of Darkness

Ciel's left eye became the Demoneye of Darkness after Iris destroyed it and a fragment of Darkness fused with the demonic factor latent in Vermouth's bloodline. The eye produces and shapes dark zones, allows Ciel to enter or cross between shadows, and can carry other people through those routes. Early attempts rapidly depleted her mana and caused nosebleeds, nausea, and dizziness; simply supplying outside mana could not substitute for developing the eye and her own capacity to control it. (Chapters 373–386, 546, and 623)

Training extended Darkness from short portals into a strategic transport network. Before ordination, repeated use could leave Ciel's eye bloodshot and exhausted; after Eugene baptized her as a Holy Knight, divine power increased her reach far enough to bridge the continent. She transports the Divine Army's staff, summons Molon from Lehainjar into the battle at Babel, and later opens successive paths for the Lionheart elites across a field of Nur. These feats still require concentration, mana, a destination she can locate, and protection while opening major routes. (Chapters 486, 544–549, 572, 575, 582, and 607)

Demoneye of Immobility

The same eye also contains the Demoneye of Immobility, an ability associated not with Iris's Darkness but with the power sleeping in Ciel's Lionheart blood. It arrests a selected target or phenomenon: tests show it can stop movement, mana flow, divine light, breathing, or a heartbeat. Its efficiency is better than Darkness, but resistance scales with the target's power, forcing Ciel to spend more mana for stronger restraint; an ordinary person is easy to halt, while someone at Eugene's level cannot simply be frozen at her early stage of mastery. Immobility can affect Demon-King-class beings for moments, as shown when Ciel checks the weakened Iris, but it is not absolute and creates a dangerous connection to the target. Against the specter, Destruction's dark power travels backward through that link, breaks the restraint, and injures Ciel's Core. The ability is therefore most effective as a timed opening for allies rather than a permanent seal, and its safe upper limit depends on Ciel's continuing progress in both the White Flame Formula and Demoneye control. Holy Knight ordination

Eugene ordains Ciel after confirming that divine power will not erase her unusual Demoneyes. The rite gives her an internal source of his light alongside the White Flame Formula and incorporates her into the Divine Army's order of Holy Knights. Its clearest demonstrated interaction is with Darkness: baptism amplifies the eye's range to continental scale and allows Ciel to answer Eugene's revelation by summoning Molon. The corpus does not show the ordination replacing her martial training or eliminating the Demoneyes' costs, so her latest state remains a synthesis rather than an unrestricted transformation. • Eugene Lionheart: Ciel begins as Eugene's mocking rival, then treats him as a brother, standard, comrade, and first love. She confesses after years of hesitation and refuses to let his rejection or past identities invalidate her feelings. Even while pursuing him, she repeatedly chooses his survival and mission over herself, pulls him from the Moonlight Sword's void, and remains one of the people who can challenge him without reverence. • Cyan Lionheart: Ciel and Cyan are fraternal twins who share childhood mischief, training, and a nearly instinctive combat partnership. Ciel supports Cyan's succession as Patriarch rather than competing for it, while Cyan protects her in battle and teases Eugene about her feelings. Their paths diverge into her Black Lion career and his family leadership, but they continue to fight and speak as siblings who understand each other's ambitions. • Ancilla Caines: Ancilla's ambition imposes a severe childhood curriculum on Ciel, although she privately longs to give her daughter dresses and ordinary family outings. When Ciel returns with an altered eye, Ancilla does not recoil and tells her she is proud; in peacetime she remains confident her daughter will overcome whatever future wall she chooses. • Carmen Lionheart: Carmen is Ciel's martial teacher and regards her pupil as the child she never had. By the later war, Carmen believes she has taught everything she can and leads the Lionheart elites through the routes Ciel creates, treating her as a fellow knight whose independent style must now mature through action. • Kristina Rogeris: Kristina first appears to Ciel as a romantic rival, but after Eugene's rejection she confronts Ciel's fear, recognizes her love for the present Eugene, and stays beside her through the resulting grief. Their sharp exchanges develop into an affectionate alliance: Ciel calls her an awkward form of “Sister,” manages her drunken worry during Eugene's absence, and fights beside the Saints as a Holy Knight. • Vermouth Lionheart: Vermouth activates the latent destructive factor in Ciel's blood to help rescue Eugene, a choice that awakens her Demoneyes but risks her life and costs her original left eye. Ciel accepts his returned place in the family and receives martial guidance from him, turning a painful inherited intervention into a direct relationship with the clan's founder.
