Phantom Rain Sword Javel

The Phantom Rain Sword Javel is a segmented sword once favored by Vermouth Lionheart. In Ciel Lionheart's hands, it shifts between sword and whip-like forms to deliver swift, unpredictable attacks from many angles. (Chapters 133, 343, and 347)

History

A reserved inheritance

Javel was one of Vermouth's weapons preserved in the Lionheart treasury. Its ability to split into many flying blades made it unusually difficult to control, so Eugene passed it over when choosing Wynnyd at thirteen. Six years later, when Eugene sought several other family relics, Gilead reserved Javel for Ciel because its speed and unconventional handling suited her established preference for light blades and precision attacks. Ciel had received the sword by the Black Lion Castle hunt. She admitted that she had not mastered it yet, but had grown sufficiently accustomed to its difficult controls to carry it as her primary exceptional weapon. In combat, its solid blade could divide into hundreds of linked or flying sections, creating a broad wave of cutting attacks rather than a single fixed trajectory. (Chapters 133 and 139)

Ciel's mastery

By the expedition north, Ciel reflexively reached for Javel whenever Eugene sensed danger, showing that it had become part of her normal combat readiness. Later training revealed how well the relic matched her: she could turn it into a whip, curve the separated blades around a defense, alter their trajectory after an initial evasion, and maintain a storm of light, fast strikes. She nevertheless kept it sheathed during lesser competition because its complexity made it an ultimate weapon rather than a blade to reveal casually. (Chapters 225–227 and 342–343)

Javel remained with Ciel after her Shimuin training. A dwarf familiar with legendary weapons confirmed that Vermouth's arms, including Javel, had survived more than three centuries without wear, breakage, or maintenance. No later transfer or damage is established, so the sword's latest confirmed condition is intact in Ciel's custody. (Chapter 347)

Abilities and properties

• Mana causes the blade to split into hundreds of cutting pieces. These can spray outward as a wave of blades or remain coordinated as a flexible, whip-like weapon. (Chapters 18, 133, and 343)
• The segmented form supports curved and changing trajectories, allowing attacks to circle around evasions and arrive from unpredictable angles. A skilled wielder can mix these movements with ordinary sword techniques. (Chapter 343)
• Javel favors speed, light handling, and precise pressure rather than a single heavy strike, which aligns with Ciel's preferred swordsmanship. (Chapter 343)
• The weapon is difficult to master. Eugene considered it tricky even before receiving formal magical training, and Ciel required years of practice before she could use its transformations fluidly. (Chapters 18, 133, and 343)
• Javel is exceptionally durable and does not require ordinary maintenance: it remained functional after more than three centuries in storage and subsequent battle use. (Chapter 347)
