Karma
Karma is a horse-legged satyr ranger who begins as In-gong's local assistant on the Enger Plains and becomes his second subordinate and one of the King's Knights. Her exceptional mobility, kick-based combat, developing spirit magic, and later recovery magic let her serve as scout, escort, and battlefield medic.
Biography
Recruitment and Training
Karma greets In-gong as the ranger assigned to assist his mission and rapidly proves suited to the plains: she can run beside mounted travelers, scout from high ground, guide the party, and carry an exhausted ally without a mount. She is inspired by In-gong's bond with Green Wind and his recovery of White Eagle, and by the time the group leaves the plains she is explicitly his second subordinate after Carack. The precise appointment scene is not shown, but later chapters confirm that she also becomes one of his King's Knights. (Chapters 43–45, 52, 55–59, and 117)
Her duties broaden through repeated expeditions. In Spider Forest, the group sends Karma through dangerous territory to summon reinforcements; she returns after the immediate fighting has ended, but the decision reflects the speed and reliability for which In-gong considers her an essential companion. She then develops from a mobile fighter into a mixed support combatant, using kicks and spirit magic in the auction-house battle. On the barbarian front she remains with the impaled Vandal, removes the last spear, and expends her final recovery spell healing him while the main battle continues around her. (Chapters 88, 99, 116, 117, and 124)
King's Knight in the Coalition
As In-gong's faction expands, Karma alternates between household, expedition, and military responsibilities. She accompanies only In-gong, Felicia, and Carack on a western mission, adapts from her nomadic upbringing to organized bases and barracks, and later joins the Dragon Temple expedition. These assignments place her among the dependable retainers who can be separated from the larger court party without losing their connection to In-gong's command. During the palace crisis she survives under Amita's protective barrier and reunites with Daphne in relief after the demonic god is destroyed. (Chapters 151, 155–157, 170, and 189–193)
In the final war, Karma helps lead coalition troops over land while the recovery party travels to the confined gandharva. When In-gong becomes the new demon king, Call gathers the King's Knights and the power of Conquest raises them as apostles. Karma has experienced this upgrade before and controls it skillfully; numerous spirits assemble around her, combining her learned specialty with the temporary amplification. The scene confirms her latest role and survival, but it does not make apostle-level output an always-active personal power. (Chapters 167, 221, and 226)
Appearance and personality
Karma is a tanned woman with black hair and a pretty face, appearing about twenty years old. Her upper body is humanoid and initially armored, while below the waist she has two horse-like legs, hindquarters, and horseshoes instead of ordinary feet. These features identify her as a satyr-like beast-person; the supplied story evidence does not describe feline features. (Chapters 43 and 45)
She normally gives a tough impression but is bright, enthusiastic, and openly reverent toward Green Wind. Her eyes repeatedly shine when she encounters a plains legend or one of In-gong's achievements. At the same time, she accepts unglamorous tasks, embarrassment, and setbacks without abandoning her post: returning too late to participate in one battle makes her awkward rather than resentful, and she continues as a practical escort and soldier. (Chapters 44, 50, 52, 58, 73, 99, and 108)
Powers and abilities
Karma's horse-like legs provide exceptional running speed and stamina. She can guide draco-mounted travelers on foot, scout ahead, carry Daphne during a retreat, and function as a fast messenger across dangerous country. Her direct martial style emphasizes her legs and kicks rather than conventional weapons, making her effective even where weapons are prohibited. The corpus does not name a formal kicking school or quantify her maximum speed. (Chapters 43–45, 55, 58, 88, and 116)
She learns spirit magic over the course of her service and also acquires recovery magic, which she uses under battlefield pressure to treat Vandal. As a King's Knight she receives In-gong's Conquest coat of arms and can be summoned and strengthened through his power. Her final apostle upgrade gathers many spirits and is handled more smoothly because she has experienced it previously, but it remains dependent on In-gong's Call and ascended Conquest rather than replacing her ordinary learned abilities. Her recovery reserves are finite: healing Vandal consumes her last spell at that point. (Chapters 71, 86, 116–118, 124, 167, and 226)
Power progression
| Stage / Realm / Ability | Chapter(s) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| King's Knight | By 117 | Joins In-gong's formal order and receives the Conquest Coat of Arms, Call, and knight-system reinforcement. |
| Apostle of Conquest | 226 | An experienced temporary upgrade gathers numerous spirits around her; the amplification depends on In-gong's ascended Conquest. |
Relationships
- In-gong: Karma advances from locally assigned ranger to his second subordinate and King's Knight. His reliance on her speed, escort work, and healing culminates in the final Call, where she answers his ascended Conquest as an experienced apostle. (Chapters 43–59, 88, 117, 151, 221, and 226)
- Carack: Carack works with Karma from her first mission, advocates for her as a precious companion when negotiating with Amita, and shares the practical responsibilities of In-gong's household. Their mutual familiarity includes teasing and consolation, but the corpus does not establish a formal hierarchy between the two knights. (Chapters 43–45, 88, 99, 117, and 151)
- Daphne: Karma guards the rear while Daphne casts, carries her after severe exertion, and embraces her when Balkarova falls. Their later appearances retain this close household companionship, including their relieved reunion after the palace crisis. (Chapters 56–59, 86, 99, and 191–193)
- Green Wind: Karma reveres the guardian of the Enger Plains and is eager merely to meet her. That devotion develops into learned spirit magic; during the final apostle transformation, many spirits gather around Karma, although the text does not say that Green Wind herself grants the upgrade. (Chapters 50–52, 58, 71, 108, 116, and 226)
Items
- No notable personal item is included in Karma's finalized inventory. She commissions protective armor from Amita, but that armor is not catalogued as a distinct generated item and its later custody or condition is not described in enough detail for a separate entry. (Chapter 100)
