Cai Lin

Cai Lin, better known for much of the story as Queen Medusa, is the ruler of the Snake-People and one of Xiao Yan's principal allies and partners. Her attempt to use a Heavenly Flame to force an ancestral evolution initially leaves her sharing a body with the separately acting Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python. After that unstable beginning, she recovers control, leads the Snake-People into the Yan Alliance, raises her daughter Xiao Xiao, and ultimately completes a further evolution into a Nine-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python. Biography

The Desert Hunt for a Heavenly Flame

When Cai Lin is introduced, she rules the Snake-People from their desert capital as a peak Dou Huang whose reputation for beauty is matched by her reputation for lethal force. The desert is not merely her seat of power: its heat is hostile to the cold-blooded Snake-People, and her subordinates understand that reaching Dou Zong could raise the standing of the entire race and eventually free them from confinement there. She therefore takes the Green Lotus Core Flame despite being injured in its capture and refuses Gu He's offer of pills in exchange for it. The proposed Body Transformation Pill would benefit an ordinary Magical Beast, but it would not accomplish the ancestral breakthrough for which she has accepted the Heavenly Flame's much greater danger. Cai Lin's evolution ritual is an act of sovereign will rather than an accident imposed on her. She uses the Green Lotus Core Flame to burn away her old body and attempts to awaken the bloodline of an ancient Heaven Swallowing Python, knowing that failure means death. Lightning gathers over the city as the ritual concludes, and both allies and enemies initially believe that the flame has destroyed her. The emergence of a small seven-colored python shows that the transformation succeeded, but not in the controlled form she intended: the new body contains a newborn python spirit while Cai Lin's own spirit has been severely weakened. Her gamble gains the higher potential she sought while depriving her, for a time, of the command on which her identity as queen depends. (Chapters 214–217)

The aftermath binds Cai Lin's future to the man who exploits the ritual's chaos. Xiao Yan takes the Green Lotus Core Flame and, after finding that the newborn python follows the Amethyst Lion Birth Essence he carries, leaves with it hidden in his sleeve. The early python is affectionate, hungry, and readily attached to him; those actions belong to the newborn spirit and should not be retroactively treated as Cai Lin deliberately choosing him. Cai Lin nevertheless remains present within the same transformed body, so recovering her strength and control also means confronting the human who took the flame for which she risked herself and her people's future. The Fallen Heart Flame Catastrophe

The separate wills inside the transformed body become visible when the python protects Xiao Yan at the Misty Cloud Sect. The small snake wakes to repel Yun Leng and fights in exchange for the essence it enjoys, displaying its own simple intelligence and attachment. Cai Lin can then assume the human form for limited periods, suppressing the python spirit for three days after the rescue. She threatens Xiao Yan over the stolen flame and demands a Thawing Spirit Pill, whose purpose is to strengthen her spirit against the other presence; he counters that killing him could provoke the python's resistance. Their one-year agreement—her intervention only when his life is in danger in exchange for the pill—begins as coercive bargaining between mutually constrained enemies, not as trust. That balance remains unsettled during the journey away from the Jia Ma Empire. In its small form, the python is docile with Xiao Yan, feeds from his supplies, and responds to his requests; at the same time, its rapid growth is attributed to the erosion and partial merger occurring between it and Cai Lin. This shared-body phase makes their continuity complicated rather than absolute. Cai Lin, Queen Medusa, and the transformed body belong to one developing life history, but the corpus still depicts the newborn python as a distinct acting consciousness while control is contested. The Fallen Heart Flame traps Xiao Yan and the transformed Cai Lin beneath the Blazing Sky Qi Refining Tower, forcing cooperation under conditions neither can escape alone. Cai Lin's seven-colored Dou Qi can resist the flame for a time but cannot break its effectively endless power in the magma world. After the flame drives both of them into a loss of control, their resulting intimacy becomes another source of anger and obligation rather than an uncomplicated romantic turn. On emerging, Cai Lin tries to kill Xiao Yan, yet the consequences of her merger with the python leave her unable to press the attack without restraint; they instead combine their power to break the seal and return to the academy. Cai Lin continues to threaten vengeance after their escape, but her choices increasingly contradict the claim that she is only waiting to kill him. She remains near the Inner Academy, follows Xiao Yan when he prepares to return home, and allows practical cooperation to survive repeated clashes of pride. By the time the party departs, she is no longer a temporary apparition inside the python's body: she travels openly as Medusa, an elite Dou Zong whose presence materially changes Xiao Yan's prospects against the Misty Cloud Sect. The Yan Alliance and the Poison-Sect War

Back in the Jia Ma Empire, Cai Lin adopts the personal name by which Xiao Yan introduces her and accompanies his coalition against the Misty Cloud Sect. When Protector Wu threatens Xiao Yan and Yao Lao, she first judges the disparity honestly—she cannot protect both men or defeat the protector alone—then chooses to join Yao Lao against him. The attempt fails to prevent Yao Lao's capture, but Cai Lin blocks further attacks, restrains the grief-stricken Xiao Yan from a suicidal pursuit, and reminds him that his teacher and clan now depend on his survival. Her intervention turns the former bargain for a pill into active guardianship at the moment when Xiao Yan is least capable of governing himself. (Chapters 709–724)

Cai Lin's place in the new Yan Alliance joins political alliance to a personal responsibility neither she nor Xiao Yan can continue ignoring. She sits with the founding powers while the coalition is negotiated and remains the strongest immediate deterrent behind its authority. Snake-People elders then reveal that their rites detected a weak life within her, making the consequences of the magma-world encounter a matter of tribal succession as well as private conflict. Although the pregnancy is initially uncertain, Cai Lin supports the elders' insistence that the child receive proper nourishment, while Xiao Yan commits to the highest-grade treatment rather than the cheaper alternatives. The invasion by the Gold Geese Sect, Mulan Valley, and Poison Sect tests whether the alliance can protect both the Jia Ma Empire and Cai Lin's people. She coordinates the Snake-People's senior experts, joins the counteroffensive, and distrusts the sudden rediscovery of the Little Fairy Doctor as the enemy Poison Sect's leader. Pride makes their exchanges abrasive, but Cai Lin does not allow rivalry to sabotage the campaign. At the Ten Thousand Scorpion Gate she fights beside the Little Fairy Doctor, and when Xie Bi Yan places a Demon Poison Spot in Xiao Yan, her fear becomes violent fury; Xiao Yan's order stops her from extending that fury into a massacre. When Xiao Yan leaves for the Central Plains, he entrusts the Yan Alliance to Cai Lin rather than treating her as an accompanying subordinate. She promises that it will not fall while she lives and asks him to deliver the pill connected to their child in person. Her farewell also shows how her relationships have widened: she asks the Little Fairy Doctor to protect him despite their rivalry and accepts that duty will keep Cai Lin herself with the alliance and Snake-People. The decision fixes her role as an independent ruler whose partnership with Xiao Yan can endure separation. (Chapter 814)

Northern War and the Origin Stone

During Xiao Yan's absence, Cai Lin raises Xiao Xiao and turns the Yan Alliance from a Jia Ma coalition into one of the northern continent's strongest factions. When the Profound Lion Sect and Hall of Souls bring overwhelming numbers to the Mysterious Yellow Fortress, she refuses surrender, organizes the fortress's formation, archers, and cultivators, and orders the defense in stages rather than seeking a personal escape. Even her contingency plan protects her responsibilities in priority order: if the wall falls, the Little Fairy Doctor is to flee with Xiao Xiao while Cai Lin remains to hold the enemy. Her command shows the strategic patience that has grown around her old decisiveness. (Chapters 1377–1379)

Xiao Yan's return changes an unresolved bond into an acknowledged family. Cai Lin lets Xiao Xiao meet her father, voices the grievances created by years of carrying both the child and the alliance, and accepts his apology without abandoning her public authority. She then places the northern settlements under trusted administration and travels with him to the Falling Star Pavilion, where Yao Lao openly receives her as Xiao Yan's wife. Her queenship is not displaced by motherhood: the family reunion expands the set of people and institutions for whom she acts. (Chapters 1380–1391)

At the spatial trade fair, Cai Lin recognizes that an apparently seven-colored stone has a rarer nature legible only through Heaven Swallowing Python bloodline memory. She insists that Xiao Yan acquire it, reveals an eighth line with her blood, and explains that the true peak of her lineage is the Nine-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python. An almost invisible ninth line appears as she stores the stone. The discovery supplies a route for further development while also demonstrating knowledge that belongs to Cai Lin's inherited lineage rather than to Xiao Yan or Yao Lao's broader cultivation experience. From the Star Realm to the Final War

At the Falling Star Pavilion, Cai Lin is integrated into another institution without becoming ornamental. During Xiao Yan's two-year retreat, she rises from a five-star Dou Zun to the peak of the class with resources Yao Lao helps gather, issues security preparations when the Profound River Alliance challenges the pavilion, and reports the completed defenses before battle. When three Ban Shengs arrive, Yao Lao assigns Cai Lin, the Little Fairy Doctor, and Qing Lin to delay the newest of them. Cai Lin assumes her enormous python form and uses bloodline power alongside poison and the Ancient Heaven Serpent, enabling three peak Dou Zuns to keep a genuine Ban Sheng from massacring the pavilion's weaker members until Xiao Yan emerges. The next transformation is one Cai Lin pursues for herself. She enters the Nine Serene Spring because its dark-cold energy can temper a snake Magical Beast's body, follows a call deeper than the place Xiao Yan reached, and locates the ancestral remains of Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Pythons. The origin stone, the spring, and that inheritance complete her evolution into a Nine-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python. On exiting, she constricts and seriously injures the Heaven Demon Phoenix chief Huang Tian, then explains that her own level is around four-star Dou Sheng and that the ancestral soul fragments attached to her body supplied the extra force of that attack. Cai Lin thereafter acts as both a senior Sky Mansion combatant and guardian of its continuity. She accompanies Xiao Yan during the Ancient Void Dragon crisis, helps remove the endangered Zi Yan from the Dragon Transforming Demon Formation, and later remains to guard the alliance while Xiao Yan and Yao Lao travel. In the final struggle against Hun Tiandi, she protects Xiao Xiao from the slaughter around them and sustains the child's faith that Xiao Yan will return; his attainment of Dou Di activates Xiao Xiao's first-generation bloodline and reverses the coalition's collapse. After victory, Cai Lin and Xun Er marry Xiao Yan in a public wedding witnessed across the world. Appearance and personality

Cai Lin is described as an exceptionally beautiful woman with long black hair falling to a narrow waist, purple eyes, and an innately bewitching presence strong enough to distract observers. At her introduction she wears a regal purple robe above a purple snake tail, combining sensuality with the composure of a sovereign. Her later clothing varies with circumstance—most notably tight red armor at the Mysterious Yellow Fortress—but her controlled bearing remains recognizable even under siege. Her first instincts are proud, cold, and decisive. She negotiates with Gu He while concealing her ritual, accepts the possibility of death for greater power, and is willing to use lethal force without hesitation. That ferocity does not disappear as her loyalties widen: when Xiao Yan is poisoned she tortures Xie Bi Yan for an answer, and after her final evolution she is immediately prepared to kill Huang Tian. The important change is not that she becomes harmless, but that she increasingly subjects violence to responsibility, strategy, and the demands of people under her care. Motherhood and alliance leadership reveal a protective patience beneath the same pride. Cai Lin carries private anxiety without showing weakness to the Yan Alliance, prepares Xiao Xiao's escape while personally remaining at the fortress, and directs a complex defense in orderly stages. Her affection for Xiao Yan is similarly expressed more often through protection, criticism, and confidence in his return than through open sentiment. Even after their marriage becomes public, the latest detailed account of her character retains the competitive queen who wants strength of her own rather than a dependent defined only by her partner. During the early shared-body period, the small seven-colored python's innocent, food-motivated behavior contrasts sharply with Cai Lin's reserve and hostility. That contrast is evidence for two acting spirits at that stage, not a hidden playful personality that should simply be assigned to Cai Lin. The later Nine-Colored transformation is different: by then Cai Lin consciously takes serpent or human form and directs the attached ancestral soul fragments herself. Abilities and cultivation

Cai Lin begins as one of the strongest Dou Huangs in the Jia Ma region, crosses into Dou Zong through her Heavenly-Flame evolution, and continues through Dou Zun to an explicitly stated four-star Dou Sheng after her Nine Serene Spring retreat. Her fighting style combines powerful seven- or nine-colored Dou Qi, a Heaven Swallowing Python body, bloodline pressure, physical constriction, and direct, economical attacks. The corpus demonstrates the results of several techniques without consistently naming or explaining them, so the mechanics of her general Snake-People skill set remain only partly established. Heaven Swallowing Python bloodline and transformations

Cai Lin acquires the Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python bloodline by using the Green Lotus Core Flame in a dangerous Snake-People evolution ritual. The flame burns away her old body, a lightning phenomenon accompanies the transformation, and a newborn python body survives. At first, Cai Lin's weakened spirit and the python's new spirit contest or alternate control; strengthening her own spirit and their ongoing merger gradually allow Cai Lin to return in human form. The transformation therefore begins with serious limitations—near death, incomplete control, and divided agency—rather than granting an immediately mastered second form. Once stabilized, the bloodline supplies exceptional physical power, rapid cultivation when enough energy is available, a gigantic serpent form, and bloodline pressure against other snake Magical Beasts. In serpent form Cai Lin can change scale dramatically, fly or remain suspended, strike with her tail, constrict large targets, and discharge seven-colored power at range. Its applications include repelling Yun Leng, fighting a Snow Demon Sky Ape, attacking a Ban Sheng, and shielding allies. Raw lineage does not make her invulnerable: the Fallen Heart Flame can erode her defenses, stronger experts can injure her, and three peak Dou Zuns can only delay—not defeat—the Ban Sheng they face at the Star Realm. The later evolution requires several interacting resources. Cai Lin identifies and retains the hidden nine-colored origin stone, then enters the Nine Serene Spring, whose accumulated cold energy is especially compatible with serpent constitutions. Drawn below the known spring, she finds the remains and inherited memory of ancestral Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Pythons. The corpus establishes these contributions but does not quantify how much each provides. In that latest form, Cai Lin's body can fill the sky, restrain an enormous Heaven Demon Phoenix, and strike Huang Tian hard enough to smash him through a mountain. She can also call attached ancestral soul fragments from the snake-shaped marks on her arm; they take the form of multiple Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Pythons and interlock into a constricting net powerful enough to distort and collapse space. This borrowed force is distinct from Cai Lin's permanent cultivation. She says that her own level is around four-star Dou Sheng and credits the fragments for letting her overpower Huang Tian; the fragments are incomplete souls under her control, and their possible restoration remains unresolved. Dou Qi combat and battlefield command

Cai Lin channels brightly colored Dou Qi through palm strikes, pillars, lightning-like attacks, protective force, and a snake-shaped sword. Her speed allows sudden interceptions, while her preference for direct fatal targeting makes her particularly effective at breaking an opponent's momentum or protecting a threatened ally. The precise names, activation sequences, duration, and energy costs of most of these attacks are not supplied. Their demonstrated limit is comparative: she can dominate regional Dou Huangs and contend as a Dou Zong, but she acknowledges when Protector Wu is stronger and requires allies against Ban Sheng opposition before her later advancement. Her leadership is a capability independent of cultivation rank. As Queen Medusa she commands the Eight Great Snake-People Tribes; as a Yan Alliance leader she integrates those forces into a human coalition and later directs fortress defenses that combine formations, specialized ballistae, archers, and cultivator reserves. At the Falling Star Pavilion she anticipates infiltration, relocates weaker disciples, recalls elders, and raises the realm to high alert. Her latest demonstrated fighting state combines four-star Dou Sheng cultivation, the Nine-Colored body, the ancestral soul fragments, and long experience leading mixed forces. She can threaten an opponent stronger than her nominal rank when those inherited fragments are used, but the story does not establish that she permanently reaches Huang Tian's cultivation level or that the borrowed formation has no cost. During the final war she remains a high-level combatant and survives, although the corpus does not state a later numeric advancement beyond the level she gives after leaving the spring. Xiao Yan begins as the thief who takes Cai Lin's Heavenly Flame and the caretaker favored by the newborn python spirit sharing her body. Their mutual leverage produces a protective bargain; forced cooperation, repeated rescues, and the consequences of the Fallen Heart Flame then turn hostility into attachment. Cai Lin becomes his coalition partner, the mother of Xiao Xiao, and the ruler to whom he entrusts the Yan Alliance. Xiao Xiao

Cai Lin raises Xiao Xiao during Xiao Yan's years in the Central Plains and treats her safety as non-negotiable even when the Yan Alliance is close to defeat. Xiao Xiao inherits a visible connection to the Heaven Swallowing Python lineage and later receives the exceptional benefit of being a first-generation descendant after Xiao Yan reaches Dou Di. Cai Lin's protection of her daughter changes how she exercises power, adding escape planning and institutional survival to the queen's older willingness to meet danger personally. Little Fairy Doctor

Cai Lin and the Little Fairy Doctor begin their renewed acquaintance with suspicion and rivalry, especially when the latter leads the Poison Sect against the Jia Ma coalition. Both nevertheless put Xiao Yan and their shared allies above personal friction. They fight together against the Ten Thousand Scorpion Gate and later combine their unusual bloodline and poison abilities against a Ban Sheng at the Star Realm; when Cai Lin must remain behind, she explicitly asks the Little Fairy Doctor to protect Xiao Yan. Zi Yan

Cai Lin takes an unusual interest in Zi Yan soon after they meet, and the two share the position of exceptionally high-bloodline Magical Beasts living in human form. Their affinity becomes practical comradeship in the Snake-People conflicts and later in the Ancient Void Dragon crisis. Cai Lin follows Xiao Yan to rescue the weakened Zi Yan and carries her out of the Dragon Transforming Demon Formation while the remaining captives are protected. Cai Lin is the stone's acquirer and user, although Xiao Yan provides the pills used in the trade. Her bloodline memory allows her to recognize that the apparently seven-colored object can reveal additional lines when touched by Heaven Swallowing Python blood; the scene visibly exposes an eighth line and quietly indicates a ninth. The Green Lotus Core Flame is central to Cai Lin's first evolution, but it is not listed here as an owned item.
