Meng Kongchan — Against the Gods

Meng Kongchan is the Dreamless Divine Regent and ruler of the Dreamweaver Kingdom of God, whose profound tradition specializes in the soul. The loss of his gifted son Meng Jianyuan leaves a vulnerability that Yun Che exploits by assuming the missing heir's identity. Convinced that his child has returned, Kongchan grants Yun Che the protection, title, and political access that turn a precarious Abyss disguise into the status of a Divine Son.

Biography

Ruler of the Dreamweaver Kingdom

Kongchan governs one of the Abyss's Kingdoms of God and bears the divine title Dreamless. His authority rests on both sovereign power and a lineage of soul cultivation capable of separating perception from reality. Within the royal family, succession is complicated by children born to different mothers, differing amounts of awakened divine essence, and the ambitions of an empress and princes who understand that a Godbearer can reorder every prior claim. (Chapters 1994–1995 and 2031–2033)

His son Meng Jianyuan is born to a favored concubine and awakens enough divine essence to become the kingdom's long-awaited Godbearer. Kongchan's joy is unrestrained, but the child's existence threatens the established empress and her sons. Jianyuan later disappears, leaving the Divine Regent with power sufficient to rule a kingdom but no way to recover the heir in whom he invested paternal love and dynastic hope. The other princes do not repair that loss. Meng Jianzhou retains status as a son of the first wife but deteriorates from a celebrated youth into an arrogant predator whose conduct damages the kingdom's reputation. Yun Che kills Jianzhou and stages the death so it appears to have come from the abyssal Qilin God, depriving Kongchan of one son while preparing to take the identity of another. Acceptance of the returned Meng Jianyuan

Yun Che constructs the impersonation from memories, royal information, soul power, and the traits Kongchan most desperately wants to recognize. When they meet, wisps of the Nirvana Devil Emperor Soul produce a resonance that reaches beyond ordinary disguise and persuades the Dreamless Divine Regent that his lost Godbearer has returned. Kongchan's mastery of soul arts makes deceiving him exceptionally difficult, but it also means the primordial soul evidence carries decisive authority once accepted. (Chapters 2072 and 2075–2077)

Kongchan responds as a father before he responds as a ruler. He provides the returned “Yuan'er” with a protected cultivation space and restores the Divine Son Palace, then announces status commensurate with a Godbearer despite the disruption this causes throughout the court. The arrangements express love and recompense for a child believed wronged, while also giving the kingdom a successor capable of matching the other Kingdoms of God's chosen heirs. Resistance comes from relatives and factions whose positions depend on Jianyuan remaining absent. Kongchan allows Yun Che to answer challenges publicly and watches how the supposed son handles elders, candidates, and succession arguments. He does not merely shelter him from every test; he uses his own authority at key moments while letting the heir demonstrate judgment and strength sufficient to justify the restored title. Political sponsorship and hidden risk

Kongchan's recognition gives Yun Che an identity no unaffiliated outsider could manufacture through force alone. As a Dreamweaver Divine Son, he gains access to rulers, formations, guarded territory, and the Pure Land's political sphere. Kongchan also interacts with Hua Fuchen over Yun Che's relationship with Hua Caili, treating the match as both a son's happiness and a union between Kingdoms of God. (Chapters 2072–2120)

The sponsorship is sincere but founded on deception. Yun Che uses filial language and responds to Kongchan's affection, yet his true purpose is infiltration and eventual return to Primal Chaos. Kongchan's paternal protectiveness consequently shields the person most capable of overturning the Abyss's order. Every favor deepens both Yun Che's operational security and the personal cost should the Divine Regent learn that Meng Jianyuan did not return. (Chapters 2075–2120)

Kongchan is not reduced to a credulous victim. His immense perception, political experience, and control of the Dreamweaver court remain active constraints on Yun Che, who takes precautions even inside a barrier Kongchan established. The deception succeeds because it targets an exceptional wound with exceptional soul evidence, not because the Divine Regent lacks the ability to investigate ordinary impostors. (Chapters 2077–2080)

Through the latest events, Kongchan continues to treat Yun Che as his son and supports the identity of Meng Jianyuan. He monitors developments reaching the Pure Land and remains one of the strongest protective powers behind Yun Che's Abyss position. The unresolved impersonation leaves him simultaneously patron, assumed father, and one of the most dangerous people Yun Che may eventually have to confront. (Chapters 2120–2188)

Appearance and personality

Kongchan appears in silver robes, carrying the remote authority of a Divine Regent and an aura associated with the Dreamweaver soul tradition. His court and palace distort the perceptions of weaker visitors, reinforcing the impression that even the space around him is subject to will and illusion. (Chapters 2072 and 2075)

He is controlled, perceptive, proud, and politically formidable, but the return of “Jianyuan” exposes unusually open joy and tenderness. Paternal grief does not erase calculation: he understands the value of a Divine Son, manages opposition, and uses public ceremony to turn private recognition into institutional fact. His affection and statecraft work together, which makes his sponsorship more durable than a purely emotional impulse. (Chapters 2075–2084)

Abilities and cultivation

As a Divine Regent, Meng Kongchan stands among the supreme profound practitioners of the Abyss and has reached the True God domain associated with its ruling powers. His specialty is the soul: Dreamweaver arts affect perception, memory, consciousness, and the boundary between illusion and reality. The defenses surrounding his palace can confuse weak minds or separate soul from body without an ordinary physical attack. (Chapters 1994 and 2075–2078)

He can create and maintain True God-level barriers, exert overwhelming force at court, and inspect soul evidence beyond the reach of normal cultivators. These capabilities make Yun Che's successful impersonation a highly prepared exception. Kongchan's principal limitation in the scoped conflict is emotional and informational: the soul signature he encounters confirms what he most wishes to be true, while the real origin of that signature lies outside the Abyss's expected possibilities.
