Hong’er is the living sword spirit bound to Yun Che and the dominant soul of the Heaven Smiting Devil Slayer Sword. Her playful, food-obsessed behavior conceals an origin reaching back to the Era of Gods.

Biography

From sword child to ancient survivor

Yun Che releases an amnesiac red-haired girl from the sword in the Moon Slaughter Devil Nest, names her Hong’er, and forms a master-servant contract that lets her transform into his scarlet greatsword. She devours swords and crystals to strengthen that weapon and accompanies him inside the Sky Poison Pearl. Shen Xi later recognizes her as Wan Hu, while recovered memories reveal that Li Suo reconstructed the light half of Ni Xuan and Jie Yuan's daughter and entrusted her to the Sword Spirit God Clan. Hong’er eventually shares the Heaven Smiting Sword with her dark counterpart You’er and continues accompanying Yun Che into the Abyss. (Chapters 485–492, 1303, 1577, 2019, 2117, and 2153)

Appearance and personality

Hong’er appears as a small girl with crystal-bright red hair, red eyes, red clothing, and an unchanging youthful body. She is energetic, mischievous, candid, and governed largely by appetite, especially for high-grade swords. Her contract never erases her independent will, and she alternates cheerful disobedience with sincere concern when Yun Che or You’er suffers. (Chapters 485–488, 1303, 1889, and 1962)

Abilities and cultivation

Hong’er transforms into the Heaven Smiting Devil Slayer Sword, a living weapon whose sacred sword force counters darkness. Eating swords, profound crystals, and suitable divine materials increases the weapon's weight and power, although Yun Che must still possess enough strength to wield it. Her later fusion with You’er permits a dark Devil Emperor form as well; strain on that form can incapacitate You’er even when Hong’er remains conscious. (Chapters 486–488, 933, 1209, 1577, and 1962)

Relationships

  • Yun Che: He names Hong’er, becomes her master, feeds and indulges her, and wields her sword form. She complains freely but remains emotionally connected to his condition. (Chapters 485–492, 1889, and 2153)
  • Li Suo: Li Suo reconstructs Wan Hu's body and soul and takes her as a foster daughter before arranging her life among the Sword Spirit God Clan. (Chapters 2019 and 2117)
  • Shen Xi: Shen Xi knew Wan Hu in the divine age and weeps upon recognizing her, though Hong’er initially remembers only a mysterious familiarity. (Chapter 1303)
